Nice Ploughman's and cider

I was impressed with this place. It was quiet when I popped in for lunch, but the cider was tasty and cold and the ploughman's lunch was a bit different.

Visited the Pennington and I wouldn't bother again. Over priced rubbish food. Slow service. Don't bother.

Hotel on arrival not as good as the reviews. I have never written a bad review but I think the service at breakfast deserves one. It isn't the fault of the waitress's, there just wasn't enough staff. It's not very good for a hotel when a client has to knock on the kitchen door politely to ask for his tea... More

We went here for lunch on a weekday when visiting relatives staying at a nearby campsite. The food was superb and all four of us enjoyed our meals. I had the crab starter, which was delicious, followed by the taste of Cumbrian lamb, which I would definitely recommend. We ate in the bar area as we had our dog with... More

The star of this place is the chef as the food was outstanding with good quality ingredients. The dining room is good for families with young children although noisy. The let down was the service, we were left waiting too long to order and a long time for the food to arrive (less than a third of the tables were... More

My husband and I were staying at the local campsite and we went for dinner one rainy evening and were able to book a table only an hour before. The bar was quite busy but the restaurant was actually pretty empty which was surprising because the other places in town were booked up. We were expecting the meal to be... More

We had the Sunday roast for lunch and it was very good. Huge serves and very reasonably priced. The staff were very friendly. Based on our experience we would recommend this restaurant.

We. Arrived around 5:30 hoping to eat but meals weren't being served then. We looked at the menu and when I asked about vegetarian food was asked if I ate fish! Strange! I had the choice of 2 items a pasty or a quiche, neither of which sounded enticing. Great disappointment. The staff were pleasant helpful and courteous. Ales and... More

Was at Ravenglass for a day on the trains and cream tea at Dalegarth. We had this at lunchtime and then wanted a hot meal before driving home. Went in all the larger restaurants in Ravenglass which were busy, so decided to try the Pennington. Had drink in the bar, chose our food, and went through to the restaurant which... More
