We stopped for lunch, food was what you'd expect, OK pub grub. Nice position at the bottom of Eskdale, but alas it's very jaded with a dark and gloomy interior, needs some decorating and ambience insertion.

Really terrible , tasted worse than frozen microwaved food. Utterly disappointed , actually couldn't eat it and the dog turned her nose up too. Everything was very oily.

Came across this pub whilst on our way to watch the local hound trailing. Great atmosphere with the fire roaring - food was tasty and hearty at great value! We would highly recommend this place - so worthwhile.

Average pub but could be great. Great play area for kids but it's all a bit scruffy & tired. Staff are friendly but also scruffy & there is just nothing special about it. Food is ok, simple & generous but there is so much better to be had nearby - disappointing

Slightly grumpy bar staff, absolutely huge portions of food but the massive pile of chips was almost inedible they were so greasy. Very limited dessert menu, I had a raspberry roulade that was still frozen in the middle. Okay value for money if you like their food but I wasn't overkeen. Not terrible, not wonderful, just average.

We visited the pub for a well earn end of walking day drink on three consecutive nights whilst staying in Eskdale. There was a great choice of real ales my partner was particular taken with Infinity at 6%, there was also a wide selection of other drinks on offer. All of the staff were friendly and welcoming which definitely made... More

Went here for anniversary meal. Food was bland and tasteless. Definitely a case of quantity over quality. Huge portions, but food was not good quality. Chips were thin and laden with oil. Did not enjoy the meal at all.

We dropped in on Wednesday for a late lunch after the fun drive over the Wrynose and Hard Knott passes. The food was good, and the portions very generous. There was a minor snafu with the timing of the cutlery and the last of our four mains but with the staff being friendly and welcoming it would have been harsh... More
