Visited twice during our stay and had fantastic meals both times. A must visit if you're in the area

Group of seven hungry after walking up Scafell Pike with one fussy eater. Staff were excellent and very accommodating. All were happy with the dishes ordered and the hearty quantities.Good value. Excellent local ales too! Would visit again.

The service was lovely and the young girl was polite and lovely but the food well there was plenty of it but my daughter who is 5 pointed and prodded her burnt pizza as she asked "what is that" as it was covered with layers of fries and beans. My partner and eldest son (9) ordered homemade fish cakes which... More

The food is reasonably priced but certainly unspectacular. Perfectly adequate for a lunchtime stop mid-walk.

One to visit for a drink & excellent real ales. We wouldn't return for food though - really poor. Staff were friendly & we enjoyed the beer. Food lets this place down though & they could do much better in my view.

Hearty and homely cooking at a good price for the portion size. Very friendly staff and excellent customer service. The steak and ale pie is to die for! Definitely, a place to visit, again and again!

Hubby and I stayed here for three nights and enjoyed every meal. Servings were huge our favourite was the meat lasanga which we had for two nights. The choc pudding was great, and staff always checked if we needed anything else within a few mins of serving us our food. The Cumberland sausages served with breakfast were very good.

The worst food we've ever had. Mash was grey dry and lumpy. Cumberland sausage was pale and waterlogged. Wonder if it had been cooked in water bath in the oven. Steak n ale pie had raw pastry on the bottom and pastry was thick n soggy. 'Home cooked chips' were obviously frozen skinny fries and were soggy. Our friends had... More

Lovely location for this old inn. Pool of water in front of bar that you had to stand in to order - weird. There is a restaurant area which is completely soulless despite the nice view. Menu is meat based and says everything is home cooked - can you call oven chips home cooked? The meat was good quality but... More
