Great service and nice food

Popped in here for a light lunch. Tables are quite close together but managed to find one where we could all sit comfortably. Immediately acknowledged by the waiting staff and drinks brought over quickly. Food order taken and arrived within 10 minutes. It was served on breadboards not plates which... read more

Visited on a Thursday night - the pub was quite busy but with only 1 on the bar and 1 waitress (who was very helpful and pleasant) anything more than a couple of tables was going to be too much for 2 people. Ordered a starter and 3 mains. Starter came quickly but then the mains took about 45 minutes... More

Popped in with my family for lunch on a rainy day in Cartmel. Husband ordered the club sandwich which was rather burnt. I had a very substandard BLT which had one slice of tomato in and no mayo in sight. Also bread was soggy with the butter/marg that was on there. For the price, it was disappointing. Kids meal was... We arrived on a Thursday evening without a booking and the staff were very friendly and got us to our table quickly. There only appeared to be 2 members of staff out front (1 on bar duty and 1 serving meals) but they seemed to handle things fine. It seemed to be getting busy by the time we left (9pm)... More

Went to this pub on Wednesday 15th July to meet some friends who live close to Cartmel and who recommended the village as a good place to eat. With no shortage of reasonable coffee shops and pubs we plumped for the Royal Oak mainly because of its lovely beer garden. The pub was spotlessly clean, each table was lit by... More

Must start by saying that the pub was very busy on our visit. The poor waiter was on his own (except for the barman) covering around 15 tables for at least 40 minutes (doing an excellent job with a smile for everyone). Food took a while to arrive, we had a pasta dish and the BBQ chicken skewer. Although the... More

Two visits here within the same week. The chicken Madras was just 'okay', although a small portion even to my dainty appetite and I soon ran out of rice. My glass of average wine (I class average wine as £5 bottle supermarket plonk) was small too. I asked for a medium measure but in any case, I was charged for... More

My husband and I got a rare night off from the kids whilst on holiday at nearby Haven Lakeland, so we decided to go for a drive for dinner and go off the beaten track, slightly. We saw a chalkboard sign for The Royal Oak and followed the roads until we eventually found it after several wrong turns. But it... More
