Decent food and generous portion sizes

We had food here twice whilst staying in the area. Typical pub grub affair. It was decent food and the portion sizes were very generous. As vegetarians there were two choices for us on the menu and an additional one on the board, which is better than a lot of places offer. As well as the usual... read more

Great beer, not the best food but perfectly acceptable. I had sole, not a great choice, the haddock was better, I would definitely choose the more simple, traditional dishes if we go back. Very nice traditional pub atmosphere and no pretensions, well used by locals.

This was our second visit in the past years as we were supervising two groups of Duke of Edinburgh award Gold expedition participants, as we were staying at Turner Hall Campsite this is the nearest pub to the camp and well worth a visit A fantastic rural old skool pub with a great selection of real ales, friendly staff (even... This place is in a peaceful valley, little group of houses - wouldn't call it a village - at half of a nice ring walk. The service is fast and very kind and the choice of beer is good. The food was just above average. Rump steak was chewy, although very good in taste. Cheese, onion and potato pie good.... More

No frills but a friendly welcome, good range of beer and excellent value basic pub grub. Dogs and kids welcome, nice garden behind.

We walked to this pub at part of a day walking in and enjoying the beautiful Duddon Valley. A warm welcome, interesting beers, details from the history of the area on the walls and good quick service for freshly prepared meals (we were a party of 6 including children). Smaller portions for children or adults with smaller appetites. I had... More

Called in after driving the hardknott pass. Just called in for a coffee but decided to have lunch. This was excellent and the young barman was very friendly and took time to give a bit of history about the pub and the area. Definitely a place we would visit again.

Been many times since the 1940s! It has changed a little over the years, but the quality of the meals now makes it one of the very best pubs in the area. Children are warmly welcomed, but are generally well behaved and respectful of the tradition. On any visit to the Lakes make sure the Newfield is visited.

The Newfield Inn is actually by Seathwaite in the Duddon Valley near Ulpha and about 6 miles from Broughton. It's a proper old pub selling reasonably priced, well kept real ale and serving decent pub food, no TV, music or wifi. A great place to relax and recharge the batteries after a walk on the fells and less than a... More

Excellent pub set in the heart of the Furness Fells, in beautiful Dunnerdale at Seathwaite. Sold a range of beers and a wide range of pub food of GENEROUS proportions using locally sourced meat. The steak pie was the best ever and the cumberland sausage delicious. A large field out the back catered for children. Dogs were welcome. A great... More
