Good Food

We ate at the Shepherds Arms for two evenings when we stayed in Ennerdale. It has a lovely comfortable atmosphere, great choice of meals, delicious food and well prepared. We will certainly go there again when we revisit the area.

Stopped on a bike ride for a nice snack , no other customers which was a surprise as it was 1:30 but during the week so might have been the reason. Lady was not the most friendly person , placed our order and asked for skinny chips - " sorry we do not do them only normal chips". So I... More

Good beer and food. This attracts locals and visitors alike. Staff are friendly and I enjoyed some craic with the lady behind the bar. A nice place to dine. Or just kicking back socialising and drinking the ale.

A party of 8 enjoyed the most wonderful meal. Not the ordinary pub food but really excellent dishes as in a good restaurant. We were satisfied to finish our first stage of C2C with such delicious food. (Belgian party)

Went to the Sheppard’s Arms for Sunday lunch after receiving a recommendation from a friend. We all the Sunday lunch with roast beef. The beef was lovely and tender and real gravy was delicious-basically everything a roast dinner should be. The restaurant area is nicely decorated and the service prompt and friendly. There’s a good selection of Ale’s etc, would... More

My braised lamb at the Shepherds Arms was perhaps the best thing either my husband or I ate on the entire coast to coast walk. Beware: portions are generous! The woman pulling pints was very friendly and let us try a few before ordering. Wish we lived nearby and could go regularly. Despite the fact that we were staying at... More

Dinner meals here were large and good value with good variations from the usual pub fare. Bar staff and owner are very friendly and locals were chatty as well. It all made for a really pleasant evening.

We visited for lunch before a trip to the stunning Ennerdale water for a swim. With two fussy toddlers in tow, lunch out can often be harrowing but Diana was just superb. She went above and beyond to help us in every respect - down to the little details like providing a cloth to wipe up the baby. Furthermore, after... More

Just returned from having a lovely meal at this pub/hotel.The steak and ale pie was delicious as was the fresh vegetables. The place is very country and has that feel about it the food more than made up for everything, we will definatly return in the future.
