A delightful meal in a great location

We were staying at this hotel as part our coast to coast walk. For being in such a remote location we were really pleased with the service, range and quality of the food. Very welcoming to walkers

Just returned from having a lovely meal at this pub/hotel.The steak and ale pie was delicious as was the fresh vegetables. The place is very country and has that feel about it the food more than made up for everything, we will definatly return in the future.

We had an incredibly satisfying dinner after a long first day on the coast to coast. We were treated like welcome family and the dinner was reminiscent of what an excellent family dinner should be. Perfectly cooked lamb -- shanks and chops. We couldn't have been more pleased and the veg that went with them was perfect, carrots, greens and... More

After a long trip up to ennerdale with two hungry teenagers nipped into Shepherds Arms and enjoyed a huge steak and ale pie. The dinner was silent due to the teenagers enjoying the meal and the desert was delicious. Staff couldn't do enough to make sure our meal went without a hitch. Don't have to ask where teenagers want to... More

pub setting, very friendly staff. I had liver bacon and veg, Hubbie had steak pie and hips. It was all delicious and plenty of it. Wine and beer was equally delicious. Really hit the spot after 14 mile walk on coast to coast !

We all went here for our evening meal and gave it the following scores: 5, 5, 5, 4, 4, 5, 2, 3, 1 and 6. It was busy the day we went due to another large walking group which resulted in us having to wait a long time to be served and get our meal, and unfortunately when it arrived... More

We were visiting the lakes in lovely cottage in a remote area. We were looking for somewhere to eat one evening and found the shepherds arms on the Internet. I rang and spoke to a gentleman about food serving time and that we had a dog. I was informed we could sit in the beer garden which was fine the... More

Took friends who were visiting for the weekend. Was a great post walk meal. Plenty of choice from the main menu and specials. We all had steak and ale pie and it was lovely, tender meat and plenty of thick gravy. We had full sized portions but was good to see they did smaller portions. Service was friendly and quick.

My husband and I have been to the Shepherds on a few occasions and our complaints have been fairly minor until our last visit in November. The atmosphere is slightly flat and the owner is really rude however this wasn't a big problem and we went a few times. In November we popped in lunch time as we were passing... More

This is a good pub serving good pub food. Service good also. Apart from one waitress passing tables that need clearing while empty handed on the way to the kitchen. Beer is good too. Parking is a bit restricted. Definitely come back again.
