We went here for lunch whilst staying locally. I have to say the food was very good. I had a steak and ale pie which was packed full of steak and had proper pastry not just a frozen puff pastry top (which I never forgive a chef for!) It came with a choice of potatoes and seasonal veg. I went... More

Went for a meal whilst staying at Ghyll Farm and opted for the Baked Cheese with Asparagus, followed by the Steak and Ale Pie. Really delicious, and served by friendly and cheery staff, don't miss it! Will certainly return next time.

Visited today with a friend after he moved into the local area. Bar was friendly with a good well stocked collection. Menu was extensive and had some very nice looking food on it. Some of us ordered from the specials board and some from the main menu. The food did take around 45 minutes to arrive but I expect this... More

Visted the shepherds arms with my family whilst staying in a near by cottage. We were greeted by a lovely female bar tender who went out of her way to make us feel welcome. The food was lovely, well above expetations however unfortunatily our vsit was spoilt by a male staff member who i presume was the manager. Shortly after... More

Stayed for 1 night whilst walking coast to Coast. Keith had been out looking for us in the car as we were late arriving and was going to call mountain rescue if we were much later, the problem was we had no mobile phone signal to inform them we were going to be late. He took our boots to the... More

A spur of the moment decisions to go out for a meal. Ennerdale is only 5 miles from where we live so didn't book as it was a wet Tuesday night in January! Friendly welcoming greeting from the lady behind the bar & there was a lovely open fire so we sat beside it!! Mulled wine warmed us up while... More

Visited with family, the place was empty! I expected a lot more. Food was warm but not hot! Prefer the fox & hounds which is in walking distance from the Shepherds.

Definitely the best evening meal along our Coast to Coast trek. And a very good pint of Wainwright on draught too – highly recommended

Friendly staff, great service with a 'nothing is too much trouble' attitude and a landlord that knows his real ales and how to serve them. Food was great, lovely steak and ale pie with the best sauce I've ever had with a pie!! An excellent range of choice on the menu and fantastic portions. Would recommend!
