Stopped here one evening when driving back from Ennerdale water. We ordered just after a party of 10 who took up half the dining room so we were pleasantly surprised that our food arrived promptly, and delighted with its quality. I can particularly recommend the stuffed aubergine

My fish and chips were done to perfection. Also sampled a very tasty bitter shandy from Wolf Warrior. On a Saturday night it was getting a bit busy, so I'd recommend booking in advance.

We had a meal here and there was a problem with my wife's main course which was rectified immediately with a genuine smile and a visit from the chef to apologise. My meal, game pie was delicious with perfect veg and gravy. The real ale was lovely and very competively priced. Thank you for your friendly welcome. Alan & Gill

Came here before going to the Fox & Hounds (was recommended to us by the landlady at our B&B, Low Cock How Farm) we walked in and the barman didn't really engage with us, he just looked at us so we asked for a couple of pints (I asked which ale was the lightest and he just pointed at one... More

Went here on a Sunday when apparently the chef is off. Meals were disappointing. I had liver and bacon which i asked to not be over cooked. It was over cooked.

First meal here and we weren't disappointed. We both ordered off the specials board getting lamb Henry. Was really well cooked, wasn't a long wait and staff were very good with any of our requests. Price wasn't too bad either! Will be going back

This is a great place for hungry Coast to Coasters to stop for dinner. They have a nice selection of traditional pub fare, at reasonable prices and with large portion sizes. It's a great meal after a long day on the trail and was one of the most satisfying dinners I had during the Coast to Coast. Save room for... More

We ate here on our Coast to Coast walk. Excellent food with a very good range of options. I had Duck Breast and my wife had trout and both meals were delicious. We also had Apple and Rhubarb crumble with custard for dessert. The staff were friendly. Overall, a delightful meal.

having been out walking our party of 14 called by here for a spot of lunch. we all ordered mainly (hot) sandwiches and chips but had to wait over an hour before being served. No forewarning or explanation - Fortunately we weren't in a rush and was enjoying a drink while we waited. When it did arrive it was very... More

We went here for lunch whilst staying locally. I have to say the food was very good. I had a steak and ale pie which was packed full of steak and had proper pastry not just a frozen puff pastry top (which I never forgive a chef for!) It came with a choice of potatoes and seasonal veg. I went... More
