January dining

It's always difficult eating out in the first days of January, as most places are generally quiet, but when a business has opened only 5 weeks previously, it's even more "hit and miss". I was pleasantly surprised, therefore, to find around 6 tables dining on a miserable Saturday... read more

The food was ok but the service was slow. There was no atmosphere and it wasn't a very fun Sunday lunch out with family. Won't return.

Went with two friends. Pleasant staff. The food was ok but there is nothing inspirational or special. I won't be going again. I thought the layout of the restaurant wasn't good.

We visited as a table of 6 on Saturday night. Fairly empty when we arrived but it did fill up later on. We ordered drinks, one didn't arrive. Starters were all pretty good except the BBQ ribs which we cremated. The squid was excellent. 4 ordered steaks all of which were over cooked although tender and tasty. Fish pie also... More

Decided to go for a drink to have a look and see what the Duke was like after reopening. It was late Saturday afternoon, not a soul in place. This was 5pm when usually people start arriving for for food, only 2 other people tucked away in the corner. On entering we felt as though we had to walk across... More

Went to dinner with the family. Food was great although there was a long wait between courses. Skipped dessert as we were so full. Staff that dealt with us were great except for the manager of the evening who didn't have any customer skills whatsoever. I won't be taking my family there again.

Was diverted off the motorway due to traffic and found myself at the Duke of Portland. What a lovely find! I discovered the pub had only recently re-opened but was amazed at how busy it was for Sunday lunch. I had the roast turkey dinner which was delicious but sadly could not finish as the portion size was extremely generous!... More

My wife and I went to Cheshire to celebrate my mother-in-laws wedding anniversary and went to the Duke of Portland. What a good choice, both the food and service where excellent and we will definitely be returning. The menu was a wise combination of traditional with some imaginative options. Even better was their ability to cope with my dietary needs... More

On arrival at The Duke of Portland following the Celebration of Life service for my Mum. About 60 family & guests were warming welcomed by Mark & his staff. Coffee & tea were served straight away & constantly flowing. Followed by selections of sandwiches (various fillings) chips (as requested) Devonshire fruit cake, Individual lemon meringues, & Strawberry tarts, Devonshire Bakery... More
