Under rated gem of a restaurant!

Having lived locally to this restaurant for many years I am always amazed how understated it is. I have eaten on many occasions and the food is always off a high standard. The food at the Moorings is always of a good standard, hot and tasty. The menu is not over large but covers all tastes. The view over the canal is lovely, usually with lots of comings and goings. Sunday lunch is very good value and cannot be beaten,

Set back from the road, this is a lovely venue which im sure is even nicer in summer. Made to feel very welcome by the owner as we had pre-booked in advance the 3 course xmas dinner which was an absolute steam al £10.95. All fresh , home cooked food and servce was superb too. Could not find fault at... More

Just called at the marina and thought that we'd pop in for a coffee. A lovely, cosy place whether you want a full meal or just coffee and cake. Will return to try a full meal but we're glad we stumbled on this place. Worth a visit too if you are visiting the Anderton Boat Lift down the road.

After a busy morning winterising our narrowboat (yes I know it is a bit early) we needed sustenance before driving on to Anglesey. Have passed this place many times and only stopped for a drink before. This time we decided to have a quick lunch. We both selected the salmon en croute with a cream sauce. This was good but... Had a lovely lunch at The Moorings looking out from our table at the barges below. Plenty of choice on the menu with specials on the board. Presentation of meals was excellent as was the taste. Small intimate dining area, tables quite close together. Would recommend for couples and small parties, we were six in total.

I had booked a table as I wasn't sure how busy The Moorings got.We were the only people there but it was only 6.30pm.Thought the man(owner?) behind the bar was a little bit surly, as though he wasn't expecting us.However, the food was lovely and what a change from "pub chain" food.Would definitely go again

I am reluctant to be critical as the food here is always excellent and well-presented. However, potential visitors should be made aware of the Owner's moodiness. He can be either welcoming and chatty, or grumpy and taciturn. Hopefully it will not be the latter next time. An overall rating of 'Good' would be more appropriate.

Lunch with family which was excellent. The service was very good despite the fact that the restaurant was very busy. The meals were excellent, just sufficient without being too much. The view over the marina is a bonus.
