My friends asked me what I would like to do for my birthday, as we normally go out for a meal, but this year I fancied doing something different.. And thought afternoon tea would be really nice, there are a few places that do this in our area, and the the George at Buckden was suggested and I said yes... More

Lovely ladies clothes shop attached to the hotel with a special section upstairs stocking an array of outfits for mother of the bride. Closed on Sunday.

We went with some friends to one of the themed Italian evenings held on the last Thursday of each month. For a reasonable price there were two courses and a glass of wine. The food was delicious and stylishly presented and there was a good variety to choose from. We enjoyed our evening and we'll consider going to the next... More

This was a return visit for afternoon tea following a rather disappointing experience a few months ago. What a difference this time though. The tea selection has been changed in the intervening time and when our tiered plates were brought outside to where we sat in the lovely sunny area at the front of the hotel, there were murmers of... My son is getting married in june so decided to have a little window shop at Anne Furbanks shop. As the hotel is part of the business decided to pop in for liquid refreshments. Ordered 1 large glass of sauvignon blanc 1 beer and some crisps. Asked for the receipt and the wine was £9.00. So expensive. As we left... More

Have not been here for a couple of years so decided to go for Mothers Day Sunday lunch. We booked for 1.30, got there at 1.20 and were asked if we wanted to go straight to our table, which we declined as we always prefer to have a drink first and browse the menu. Hence arriving a little earlier. After... More

We popped in for a couple of coffees recently. We like to do that sort of thing - like a lot of other people. The first batch of coffees were a little watery and weak. Even with my Sunday morning mood hat on, this wasn't up to standard. So we mentioned it and some replacements were offered. These were better,... More

Went to the George for our 12th anniversary celebration because it was close and had a gift certificate. We have been here before and know the service is slow, and that was the case again. We went all out with ordering 2 bottles of wine and 3 courses. They were kind to send out a chocolate sampler after we had... More

We stayed at The George last night and felt we wanted to write a review after having such a lovely time. We arrived with our friends and checked into our rooms. We were in Eliot room which was really spacious with touches like bathrobes. You did have to ring down to get tea or coffee as this was a service... More
