breakfast disappointing

We were very pleased with the hotel staff, rooms and the location. But the breakfast was very disappointing, the bacon and black pudding must have been cooked sometime before serving as it was like cardboard. Knowing that this breakfast would have cost £14.50 if not included in the night's stay is... read more

We eat here regularly on Sunday's but our last visit the food was distinctly average and after a three course meal we both didn't feel satisfied (usually we struggle to eat 3!). Also the menu was very uninspiring. Will try again and we hope it improves!

Nothing like their online menu! I was looking forward to Sea Bass but they could only offer battered haddock! The "Traditional Christmas Lunch" had no Brussels, no parsnips, a large amount of cranberries were already on the plate instead of being served separately!

Had dinner with friends in the restaurant here. Pleasant surroundings. Restaurant was 1/2 full on a Saturday evening so not too busy. Service lacks a smile but functional and polite but certainly not welcoming. We only had starters and main course but all plates were served with large portions of salad and a bit sparse on the main ingredients. My... More

This was a special afternoon tea for a retirement do.So very disappointed, I really think The George could do better than this. A few sandwiches and a scone on a tin foil platter and value jam and ikea glasses? No sugar but salt and pepper on the table. They seemed surprised when alternative to tea was requested.

This is a lovely friendly hotel. The food is great and the staff are helpful and pleasant. Nothing is too much trouble. We had a lovely suite. However the bed was very hard and uncomfortable. All rooms are named after a George each room has a book about the George the room was named after. Nice touch.

I ate her with my mother and had a lovely three course Sunday lunch. £25 for three courses; each was very well presented and of a good size. The salmon for starter was hot and cold smoked, it is definitely the best salmon course that I have recently had. Main was roast sirloin of beef which was perfectly cooked and... More
