Description: An award winning dining destination in the centre of beautiful old Amersham, the Artichoke restaurant has been tipped for the top by critics, chefs (including Raymond Blanc) and, rather impressively, the Michelin Guide 2011. The traditional setting of Artichoke has been given new life with a slick contemporary country makeover in which comfort and style sit side by side, colours are muted and soothing and the beautiful features of the building are allowed to shine through, a part of the carefully considered dcor. Chef and owner Laurie Gear oversees a refined modern European menu filled with charming additions including not only seasonal ingredients but foraged herbs, berries and flowers too and he and his team can be spotted hard at work in the open kitchen from the Kitchen Dining Room. Other spaces here at Artichoke include the glorious Garden Dining Room, opening out on to the bespoke herb wall and the Wine Room up on the first floor, leading in to the well stocked cellar and just right for sophisticated business dining. The perfect neighbourhood restaurant, Artichoke has certainly put Amersham on the map.

Four of us enjoyed a very leisurely and high quality lunch at a remarkably good value price. The service was outstanding being both attentive and warm and being highly professional without any stiffness. The ambience is made to just sink into and relax and it is very much a no hassle and easy going environment. The set lunch choice is... More

My fourth visit and, again, pretty much a perfect lunch. A very warm welcome on arrival, we were greeted like old friends. They even remembered that I was a Coeliac and did a special dessert for me - which was really delicious. Matteo again showed his expertise with the wine flight as the wines went really well with the food. Service... More

My fourth visit lived up to expectations. Went for the 7-course Tasting Menu which was excellent and the fight of wines was perfection, On this occasion I found the food very slightly over-seasoned. Service was excellent as usual and we were more than happy to pay the charge on the bill

This is the second time that we have dined at Artichoke - the first was in 2008 when some friends took us there. The restaurant has changed massively since then...and it bigger and even better. Overall: This was a faultless dinner...and easily deserves one, or two, Michelin star(s). It was the best dinner we have had in the last year...and... More

Had heard of the Artichoke so decided, on the spur of the moment, to celebrate by visiting this restaurant. We were very lucky to get a table. As it was our first visit we tried the seven course "taster menu" with the "wine flight". The food was outstanding and each of the wines selected to accompany each dish really hit... More

Absolutely exquisite food and faultless service. This was our first visit and will definitely note be the last. Can't wait to go back. Would go back just for the delicious amuse bouche.

Surpassed expectations in all areas. Took my girlfriend for a birthday lunch to The Artichoke and the 'lunch tasting menu' was superb. Particularly impressed with the celeriac soup; so light and full of flavour. Have already booked to go back in December. Can't believe this restaurant doesn't have a Michelin Star yet. First-class service.

I booked in for our wedding anniversary. I knew this would be good - you don't win AA restaurant of the year awards for nothing. So my expectations were high. But is was soooo good. The amuse bouche was so light it was flavoured air. My wife's crab thermidor won the starter round. I think my veal narrowly pipped her... More

The first time we came here, we hoped they would relax in future and they certainly have! The food is wonderful, the service amazing and everyone is so friendly and welcoming They do the best bread rolls and their dishes are a work of art. I highly recommend!!
