An award winning dining destination in the centre of beautiful old Amersham, the Artichoke restaurant has been tipped for the top by critics, chefs (including Raymond Blanc) and, rather impressively, the Michelin Guide 2011. The traditional setting of Artichoke has been given new life with a slick contemporary country makeover in which comfort and style sit side by side, colours are muted and soothing and the beautiful features of the building are allowed to shine through, a part of the carefully considered dcor. Chef and owner Laurie Gear oversees a refined modern European menu filled with charming additions including not only seasonal ingredients but foraged herbs, berries and flowers too and he and his team can be spotted hard at work in the open kitchen from the Kitchen Dining Room. Other spaces here at Artichoke include the glorious Garden Dining Room, opening out on to the bespoke herb wall and the Wine Room up on the first floor, leading in to the well stocked cellar and just right for sophisticated business dining. The perfect neighbourhood restaurant, Artichoke has certainly put Amersham on the map.

Expensive but AMAZING!

We went for a special treat and were not disappointed at all. Top quality service in a lovely calm atmosphere. The food quality and presentation was out of this world and could not fail to impress. A wonderful experience worth every penny.

amazing food. Small portions as you would expect from a high end restaurant, but everything really delicious and creative.

We were Internet searching for Michelin star restaurant and found this little Gem. What a lovely experience , the food was stunning , we tried the taster menu and I had the wine flight for the first time. The entire time spent in this beautiful restaurant was just perfect. As I say the food was so good and matched any... More

I am so happy that I have this restaurant in my life, I just can't get enough of it! I usually go with hubby but decided to take mum there for the lunch tasting menu and of course it didn't disappoint - every course is special but I have to say the Swede Risotto in particular was a taste and... why Julian hasn't received a star I don't know - I have eaten some of the best food hear over and above some of the 1 & 2 star restaurants I have eaten at in London and else where. The taster menu is great and if you have an aversion to one of the dishes they will try and accommodate... More

My parents, boyfriend and I visited the Artichoke midweek to celebrate my 21st birthday. We were well looked after by the staff, who were very friendly and attentive - they brought over bag stools for my mum and myself before we had barely sat down! We were sat next to the window, with a good view to the kitchen, where... More

Lovely restaurant situated in Amersham old town. We kicked off our dining experience with some drinks. I had a Ferdinand gin which I've never seen on a menu before. Garnished with a grape and well worth a dabble. Our group opted for the seven course tasting menu with the wine flight. We were not disappointed. Highlights of this incredible gastronomic... More

All the superb reviews of the food at this wonderful restaurant are fully justified. Lunchtime fixed menu was terrific, each course being a choice of just two dishes, who needs more when it's this good? My wife and I had one of each, shared 50/50 and savoured everything we tasted. So much good stuff has been written about the food... More

We had heard much about this restaurant and are pleased to say it delivered big time. It is simply extraordinary that the Michelin Guide has not seen fit to award a rosette. We have visited several starred restaurants recently that do not hold a candle to the cuisine on show here. At dinner there is a choice of 3 courses... More
