Description: An award winning dining destination in the centre of beautiful old Amersham, the Artichoke restaurant has been tipped for the top by critics, chefs (including Raymond Blanc) and, rather impressively, the Michelin Guide 2011. The traditional setting of Artichoke has been given new life with a slick contemporary country makeover in which comfort and style sit side by side, colours are muted and soothing and the beautiful features of the building are allowed to shine through, a part of the carefully considered dcor. Chef and owner Laurie Gear oversees a refined modern European menu filled with charming additions including not only seasonal ingredients but foraged herbs, berries and flowers too and he and his team can be spotted hard at work in the open kitchen from the Kitchen Dining Room. Other spaces here at Artichoke include the glorious Garden Dining Room, opening out on to the bespoke herb wall and the Wine Room up on the first floor, leading in to the well stocked cellar and just right for sophisticated business dining. The perfect neighbourhood restaurant, Artichoke has certainly put Amersham on the map.

The first time we came here, we hoped they would relax in future and they certainly have! The food is wonderful, the service amazing and everyone is so friendly and welcoming They do the best bread rolls and their dishes are a work of art. I highly recommend!!

Have had 3 superb lunches here, in the past, but after saving some pennies went for the evening tasting menu and wine flight. (Stayed the night at a hotel in Amersham, review to follow.) The food was as good as it gets, the wines were superb. One of our party of 4 opted for the veggie menu, and she was... More

An impulse decision to go for lunch was one of the happiest occasions. I have written before full of praise but the food seems to get better each time we go. The restaurant was due to close for the summer break the next day yet there was no air of tiredness in the food or the staff. Roasted cod was... More

What a treat. From the moment you enter you are taken care of and what followed was an exceptional meal . Every course was a visual treat and was so delicious you wanted to make the meal linger. The raspberry soufflé is a must. Where is the rosette this restaurant deserves? I would have preferred to have been seated in... More

Very nice restaurant, for special occasions a great choice. Prices are high, but the food is of a high quality and presentation.

The dinner menu had a wide choice of very interesting dishes. For starters two of us had crab thermidor which was excellent and our friends both had the scallop ( just the one) which was equally tasty. The one slight drawback was my main course, wild turbot, which was a very small portion and the fish itself was overpowered by... More

We have eaten at the Artichoke off and on for some ten years, and it just seems to improve each time we go. The cuisine was superb (I cannot understand why it has never received a Michelin rosette), service was good, and the italian wine waiter was first class.

We visited Artichoke on Saturday with two friends, and from the moment we walked in through the door, the experience was amazing - from the Amuse Bouche to the dessert, everything was delicious. In particular, the Raspberry Souffle was heavenly and we could all have eaten two, even though the portion was very generous. The staff were friendly without being... More
