Description: An award winning dining destination in the centre of beautiful old Amersham, the Artichoke restaurant has been tipped for the top by critics, chefs (including Raymond Blanc) and, rather impressively, the Michelin Guide 2011. The traditional setting of Artichoke has been given new life with a slick contemporary country makeover in which comfort and style sit side by side, colours are muted and soothing and the beautiful features of the building are allowed to shine through, a part of the carefully considered dcor. Chef and owner Laurie Gear oversees a refined modern European menu filled with charming additions including not only seasonal ingredients but foraged herbs, berries and flowers too and he and his team can be spotted hard at work in the open kitchen from the Kitchen Dining Room. Other spaces here at Artichoke include the glorious Garden Dining Room, opening out on to the bespoke herb wall and the Wine Room up on the first floor, leading in to the well stocked cellar and just right for sophisticated business dining. The perfect neighbourhood restaurant, Artichoke has certainly put Amersham on the map.

We visited this restaurant on a weekday lunchtime with our little granddaughter and her parents to celebrate our son's Birthday. The staff were lovely and the food was really excellent. It is not cheap, but provides a gourmet experience at an appropriate price.

We passed the Artichoke and was so impressed with the menu and decor decided to book a table for Saturday 5th July. We had a lovely warm welcome from the staff. The food was exceptional and really well presented. A very cosy atmosphere but with a nice buzz. I would thoroughly recommend the Artichoke.

This was my first visit to this highly regarded restaurant. On my son's recommendation all four of us had the tasting menu, but without the wine option. All the various courses were beautifully presented and looked and tasted delicious. You are given choices for main courses and desserts. I chose the duck for my main which was tender and full... I took my wife to the artichoke restaurant for her birthday on the recommendation of a friend and I have to say, it was superb. We had the lunch tasting menu, sat at a table overlooking the kitchen and the food was absolutely delicious. The chicken breast in maple glazed sauce was to die for whilst my wife particularly enjoyed... More

Have just had the set lunch at £25 each. At 1.15 p.m. The restaurant had four other people sharing a table and ourselves. Our table was in full view of the kitchen staffed with seven, perhaps eight. In the restaurant there were two waiters, suitably aproned so as not to conflict with the decor, and three others dressed in full... More

We went there without a reservation. They had a table but it was right in front of the kitchen. We asked to change and they accommodated us. The food was good, beautifully presented like something out of 'Masterchef'. It was however on the whole expensive for what it was. My main complaint was however the price of the wine in... More

We had a delightful table for four in an alcove which was perfect as we were with parents, who have selective hearing! Wine list caters for most tastes and prices and the G&Ts were perfect. All of the food was superb. A wonderful mix of taste and texture in every dish and each course. We each had a taste of... More

We had a lovely dinner here with friends a couple of weeks ago. We were warmly greeted when we arrived and decided to go for the 7 course tasting menu as this was our first visit and wanted to give the chef a chance to show off. Each course was cooked to perfection! The scallop and asparagus dishes stand out... More

We had been meaning to go to The Artichoke for years - but never seemed to find the time. To say we had a fantastic meal for our Wedding Anniversary is a huge under statement. We've been lucky enough to eat at some of the best restaurants globally.... but I have to say - having this one less than 20... More
