Description: An award winning dining destination in the centre of beautiful old Amersham, the Artichoke restaurant has been tipped for the top by critics, chefs (including Raymond Blanc) and, rather impressively, the Michelin Guide 2011. The traditional setting of Artichoke has been given new life with a slick contemporary country makeover in which comfort and style sit side by side, colours are muted and soothing and the beautiful features of the building are allowed to shine through, a part of the carefully considered dcor. Chef and owner Laurie Gear oversees a refined modern European menu filled with charming additions including not only seasonal ingredients but foraged herbs, berries and flowers too and he and his team can be spotted hard at work in the open kitchen from the Kitchen Dining Room. Other spaces here at Artichoke include the glorious Garden Dining Room, opening out on to the bespoke herb wall and the Wine Room up on the first floor, leading in to the well stocked cellar and just right for sophisticated business dining. The perfect neighbourhood restaurant, Artichoke has certainly put Amersham on the map.

my second visit to this gem of a restaurant... An exquisite night with outstanding service and excellent food. A well priced and broad wine list. Very knowledgeable and dedicated staff. No question Artichoke is the best restaurant in Thames Valley by some margin. Thanks for a great evening.

I have eaten at this restaurant a number of time over the years, with friends and family. The food is always fabulous, inventive and beautifully presented. The service is always welcoming and friendly. The tasting menu has never failed to disappoint and the lunch menu is always good value for money. Yes it is a little pricey but it is... More

Our son bought us a gift voucher for this hidden gem. The evening was superb. The staff were attentive, the ambience was great and I can't think of a good enough superlative to describe the food. Thank-you.

Just superb. A real gem in an area woefully lacking in truly top notch restaurants. Exemplary kitchen skills, artistic presentation, faultless service. Very pricey but absolutely justified. Stands up perfectly well against far more "recognised" establishments. Artichoke is a very serious contender for a star. Deserving of recognition and very highly recommended to the discerning diner.

This is our second visit to the Artichoke, visiting between Xmas and New Year, and it just gets better. The service is very thoughtful- stools provided for our handbags! I had mentioned that I was vegetarian on booking, and the staff explained exactly what items were suitable for me (bread etc) and provided alternative amuses bouches. I was not left... More

I live only a few miles from the Artichoke and have eaten there many times and watched Jacki and Laurie work their socks off. We have seen them rebuild from a serious fire some years ago and expand the restuarant into a Michelin starred fine food establishment. I treated an old friend of mine on Tuesday evening to dinner and... More

This is one for special occasions and celebrations. A Saturday night booking took a lot of effort and we could see why it is so popular. Service was charming and efficient. The menus are interesting and delicious. We chose from the £48 set and still enjoyed a lovely amuse bouche and a pre-dessert. This is very confident cooking for people... More

A real gem if a French restaurant. The set price lunch at £28 is wonderful and the 5 and 7 course tasting menus looked superb, I wish we'd had the time to try one. There is even a vegetarian tasting menu. Service was attentive but not smothering, and the staff are truly special.
