Description: An award winning dining destination in the centre of beautiful old...
An award winning dining destination in the centre of beautiful old Amersham, the Artichoke restaurant has been tipped for the top by critics, chefs (including Raymond Blanc) and, rather impressively, the Michelin Guide 2011. The traditional setting of Artichoke has been given new life with a slick contemporary country makeover in which comfort and style sit side by side, colours are muted and soothing and the beautiful features of the building are allowed to shine through, a part of the carefully considered dcor. Chef and owner Laurie Gear oversees a refined modern European menu filled with charming additions including not only seasonal ingredients but foraged herbs, berries and flowers too and he and his team can be spotted hard at work in the open kitchen from the Kitchen Dining Room. Other spaces here at Artichoke include the glorious Garden Dining Room, opening out on to the bespoke herb wall and the Wine Room up on the first floor, leading in to the well stocked cellar and just right for sophisticated business dining. The perfect neighbourhood restaurant, Artichoke has certainly put Amersham on the map.

Friends took us to what is now our favourite restaurant as a thank you. Swede risotto may not immediately excite, but once on the lips quite wonderful! Sole and pork shoulder continued the delight and pannacotta and apple cake with butterscothc icecream rounded off an excellent meal, and all from the lunch fixed price menu.. The only sadness was the... More

My husband and I visited last minute on a rare day without the children, having had several good recommendations for the restaurant. We were greeted immediately and taken to our table just in front of the open kitchen. We chose the lunch taster menu, and both agreed the food was excellent. Stand out for me was the risotto and the... More

We had heard about the Artichoke from several friends so decided to give it a try one Friday lunchtime. There were plenty of staff, all helpful. Our table was OK, but partly in a fireplace and in line with the draught whenever the front door opened (it was a very cold day). Service is as one would expect in a... More

Super place, good for a treat. Food was very rich, service was friendly and efficient. My only complaint was that we had to sit upstairs so didn't get to see what was going on in the kitchen. Should have booked sooner...

This is one of the best tasting menus I have had, utterly beautiful. It's a quaint building, minimally and tastefully decorated and in-keeping with its 16th century beams. The staff are very professional, well informed and friendly. I would highly recommend the tasting menu and wine flight. Every course is to die for! The duck is so delicate and perfectly... More

Our son and his family took us to lunch at The Artichoke as a Christmas present, so we had been looking forward to it for quite some while! This had been the first convenient date for us all, and we were not disappointed. We had the 5 course tasting menu and it was just superb. The restaurant is very smart... More

Lunch tasting menu this weekend £44 - 6 course. Wine flight £24 pp Amuse buche that as al the staff speak in heavy French accents I've no idea what it was really. Opted for supplementary venison bresola - very pretty, Nobu style presentation Excellent creamy swede and truffle risotto Delicate lemon sole fillet overshadowed by the delicious mushroom (and more... We had the taster menu. It was fantastic. The wine with every course was perfect and the service was very smooth and professional. I love trying food I cannot make my self.
