An award winning dining destination in the centre of beautiful old Amersham, the Artichoke restaurant has been tipped for the top by critics, chefs (including Raymond Blanc) and, rather impressively, the Michelin Guide 2011. The traditional setting of Artichoke has been given new life with a slick contemporary country makeover in which comfort and style sit side by side, colours are muted and soothing and the beautiful features of the building are allowed to shine through, a part of the carefully considered dcor. Chef and owner Laurie Gear oversees a refined modern European menu filled with charming additions including not only seasonal ingredients but foraged herbs, berries and flowers too and he and his team can be spotted hard at work in the open kitchen from the Kitchen Dining Room. Other spaces here at Artichoke include the glorious Garden Dining Room, opening out on to the bespoke herb wall and the Wine Room up on the first floor, leading in to the well stocked cellar and just right for sophisticated business dining. The perfect neighbourhood restaurant, Artichoke has certainly put Amersham on the map.

A birthday treat, and what a treat it was!

This was a surprise birthday meal booked by our daughter and son in law. Upon entering you are immediately aware of their attention to detail and of the relaxed but professional feel of the place. Timing was oh so right, pre dinner drinks arrived while perusing a magical list of foodie delights. We chose A La Carte, we weren't disappointed,... More

This was a surprise birthday dinner for my partner (and the overnight stay at the Crown) and his daughter also joined us. We arrived at 7 and were seated at a table for 4 overlooking the little courtyard. There was a delightful ambience and as the restaurant filled, the buzz of contented diners filled the room. The restaurant seemed to... More

We now live just up the hill from The Artichoke and were given a gift certificate for Christmas. What a wonderful treat! The seven-course tasting menu with wine pairing was a whimsical and exciting gastronomical journey. I've always loved tasting menus because they are an opportunity for a chef to flex his or her muscles and show us what they... More

From the moment you walk in this place has the wow factor. My biggest tip is get here before the Michelins arrive because it is only a matter of time. Anyone that can produce this level of food for £38 as a five course tasting menu deserves a medal let alone a Michelin star. As I am writing I have... More

I have eaten at Artichoke several times and I have never had a bad experience and recommend it to anyone asking for a local restaurant in the Amersham area. The menu changes regularly and there is always something different. I always feel special when we go there whether it is for a birthday or just for an evening with friends.

Everything about the Artichoke scores a big hit for me - from the understated elegance of the decor, to the service, discrete, yet attentive and of course the food - always imaginative, taking the diner on a journey of gastronomic delights. Does that sound like I'm raving too much? Probably, but I really have been impressed each time I've been,... More

A very nice evening for my wife's birthday. The staff were very attentive. Although the prices are slightly high it's worth every visit. A nice treat

I took my wife to the Artichoke for a special birthday lunch and the whole experience proved one to remember for all the right reasons. We chose from the a la carte menu which had recently been changed as part of a regular seasonal re-fresh. My wife's scallops to start were superbly meaty and I chose the excellent newly added...
