Description: An award winning dining destination in the centre of beautiful old Amersham, the Artichoke restaurant has been tipped for the top by critics, chefs (including Raymond Blanc) and, rather impressively, the Michelin Guide 2011. The traditional setting of Artichoke has been given new life with a slick contemporary country makeover in which comfort and style sit side by side, colours are muted and soothing and the beautiful features of the building are allowed to shine through, a part of the carefully considered dcor. Chef and owner Laurie Gear oversees a refined modern European menu filled with charming additions including not only seasonal ingredients but foraged herbs, berries and flowers too and he and his team can be spotted hard at work in the open kitchen from the Kitchen Dining Room. Other spaces here at Artichoke include the glorious Garden Dining Room, opening out on to the bespoke herb wall and the Wine Room up on the first floor, leading in to the well stocked cellar and just right for sophisticated business dining. The perfect neighbourhood restaurant, Artichoke has certainly put Amersham on the map.

Cannot fault this wonderful restaurant. My second visit with my son and wife on a Tuesday afternoon for lunch on my 40th was utterly fantastic. The service, wine, value, setting, food ... Oh the food! Had the 5 course lunch taster - fantastic. All of it. Sommelier was brilliant, service sincere and just right. You could tell all the staff... More

We had a lovely lunch in perfect, pastel surroundings in a corner of the restaurant. The staff were welcoming and efficient. We had the 5 course tasting menu which had some beautiful dishes. The most memorable was the Cauliflower soup, which had been aerated with a parmesan crust and was sublime. All the food and amuse-bouches were beautifully cooked and... More

Small but smart was our first impression as we were seated in one of the downstairs rooms. Our second impression was one of amazement when we noticed that we were quite close to the kitchen which was completely open with Head Chef Laurie and his very able second-in-command Ben working calmly and quietly, how the kitchen staff could hear the... We had the 7-course taster menu and it was amazing. Unusual combinations of flavours and preparations (including foams and jellies). Definitely a place for special occasions since the price does reflect the quality.

Definitely a venue for special occasions. We had a glass of Champagne/Kir Royale to start with and then the tasting menu and wine flight. We enjoyed every course - the smoked trout with savoury cucumber panna cotto and the strawberry galette dessert were particular favourites of mine. The waitress described the food before each course and the sommelier explained the... More

Definitely a must for a special occasion.....I had the most amazing beetroot starter. Should have a Michelin star by now, apparently Raymond Blanc is a regular! We sat with the view of the kitchen, no shouting and slamming a la 'Ramsay here, they looked calm and focused, great entertainment watching them put it all together.

My girls took me out last night for a birthday treat. And Artichoke was as near perfect as I could have wished for. Attentive, friendly staff - and all of them really sweet/cute! Food was really special (main course of duck could have been warmer) and the pudding (recommended by the waiter) was the nicest I've ever had. Honestly! Pear... More

I booked a lunch sitting with my wife and another couple on Good Friday. The booking itself was through Top Table, but be aware that you cannot get points for The Artichoke. We went for a glass of Champagne each to start with and then the five course tasting menu and wine flight. Every single course was exquisite. The level... More

A warm greeting on a freezing day on arrival. Deliciously different five course tasting menu which was superb. Sublime half bottle of wine (it was lunchtime, after all). Very attentive service from the smiling staff attending to our every need. Interesting to have a chat with proprietor/chef Laurie when he came to see us. My only personal disappointment was the... We have visited twice and had super meals both times. The restaurant offers a fixed price lunch which is great value. However, we have opted for the 7 course tasting menu on both visits, with wines to match. Some courses were very good, some absolutely fantastic. The presentation is beautiful and whilst some fashionable flourishes are included, the emphasis is... More
