Description: An award winning dining destination in the centre of beautiful old...
An award winning dining destination in the centre of beautiful old Amersham, the Artichoke restaurant has been tipped for the top by critics, chefs (including Raymond Blanc) and, rather impressively, the Michelin Guide 2011. The traditional setting of Artichoke has been given new life with a slick contemporary country makeover in which comfort and style sit side by side, colours are muted and soothing and the beautiful features of the building are allowed to shine through, a part of the carefully considered dcor. Chef and owner Laurie Gear oversees a refined modern European menu filled with charming additions including not only seasonal ingredients but foraged herbs, berries and flowers too and he and his team can be spotted hard at work in the open kitchen from the Kitchen Dining Room. Other spaces here at Artichoke include the glorious Garden Dining Room, opening out on to the bespoke herb wall and the Wine Room up on the first floor, leading in to the well stocked cellar and just right for sophisticated business dining. The perfect neighbourhood restaurant, Artichoke has certainly put Amersham on the map.

Amazing food and service - outstanding!

My boyfriend brought me to the Artichoke in mid July for my birthday; we went with the A La Carte menu and were not disappointed. (Although the tasting menu looked great too!) 3 courses were included at a reasonable set price (although we were deliberately excessive so landed a huge bill!) but we... read more

My wife and I went to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary and ordered the tasting menu. This is a real nice place, though quite cosy. Service was excellent if a bit fast pace at times. Food was excellent too. Some really good ideas in the tasting menu and the accompanying wines worked a treat. Overall fully recommended though the bill... More

My partner took me for my birthday because we'd been hearing about the Artichoke's reputation from before the fire and renovation. We were both impressed and thoroughly enjoyed the taster menu - I had the vegetarian one. We found all the dishes to be excellent, with an interesting and not over-powering balance of flavours. Everything was well-presented and the service... More

We went on the strong recommendation of friends and were not disappointed. Excellent and beautifully presented cuisine with a real emphasis on quality, a good wine list and very attentive and knowlegible service. Slightly pricey but definitely worth it. A Michelin star cannot surely be far off. .

My husband booked this restaurant as a treat for our second wedding anniversary last night. I'll admit that when I realised where we were going I wasn't particularly thrilled. While we have dinned in high end restaurants before, I had hoped for a more relaxed dinner without any pretence where we could feel comfortable and take our time eating. But... More

Myself and wife visited the Artichoke last week to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. I had already heard some fantastic reviews but wanted to have a taste myself. Both myself and wife are not usually the kind of people to dine in such fine dining atmospheres (except for special occasions) however the service and quality of food did not disappoint of... More

My first time at The Artichoke and in general very impressed. A very warm friendly welcome and pleasant surroundings. The menu was relatively small but with some good choices. Food and service was excellent and I came away quite satisfied. The open kitchen allows views of its cleanliness. Only one problem, it allowed me to watch a young chef committing... More

We have always found Artichoke to be a high standard and this visit was not exception. We visited on a Saturday evening and, as you might expect, they were busy. Nevertheless the quality of the food was uniformly high. Service though was a little stretched - there are a lot of serving staff but there seemed to be rather more... More

We celebrated our wedding anniversary here last night. We enjoyed the tasting menu, the food was superb, as good as any Michelin starred restaurant I have been to. Service was impeccable and all the staff were so enthusiastic and knowledgable. We can't wait to visit again.

A group of us went last Saturday evening for the later sitting. The place was busy and buzzing, great atmosphere. Without exception everyone enjoyed every course. Just the right level of flavouring and seasoning. The meat, particularly the duck and the veal was melt in the mouth and cooked just right. Service timely, pleasant and without pressure, very good sommelier.... More
