An award winning dining destination in the centre of beautiful old Amersham, the Artichoke restaurant has been tipped for the top by critics, chefs (including Raymond Blanc) and, rather impressively, the Michelin Guide 2011. The traditional setting of Artichoke has been given new life with a slick contemporary country makeover in which comfort and style sit side by side, colours are muted and soothing and the beautiful features of the building are allowed to shine through, a part of the carefully considered dcor. Chef and owner Laurie Gear oversees a refined modern European menu filled with charming additions including not only seasonal ingredients but foraged herbs, berries and flowers too and he and his team can be spotted hard at work in the open kitchen from the Kitchen Dining Room. Other spaces here at Artichoke include the glorious Garden Dining Room, opening out on to the bespoke herb wall and the Wine Room up on the first floor, leading in to the well stocked cellar and just right for sophisticated business dining. The perfect neighbourhood restaurant, Artichoke has certainly put Amersham on the map.

Excellent

Very good restaurant. French type with British hint haute cuisine (would be even greater to stick to just French). Good service. Excellent wine chose. Not for everyday though. Quite expensive. Great for special occasions.

Amersham Old Town has a host of restaurants and I would say that Artichoke is the best among them. A discreet frontage leads you to excellent service of top class food. We had lunch, which is a 5-course tasting menu, and every course was delicious; an excellent variety of interesting combinations of flavours. The service is expert, the ambience pleasant... More

Menu was all delicious and food excellent. Upstairs the ambience is not quite as good as downstairs so if you have a choice, ask for downstairs.

From the moment we arrived we were welcomed, and made to feel at ease. We chose the 7 course taster menu. Everything served was absolutely superbe. Will definitely be coming back here again. First class

I had heard that 'The Artichoke' was an exceptional dining experience and I have to say, this is the first time I have been served food of this quality (I would venture Michelin star quality!) in a rural location. Great front of house, exceptional wine and menu and beautiful decor (right down to the cutlery, crockery and glassware) make this... More

I can't think why I haven't reviewed The Artichoke before! It has been our 'go to' restaurant for the past few years...we always choose it for our special celebrations and it has never let us down. Lunchtime or evening, both equally delicious & special. Our last visit was a few days ago for a combined birthday/anniversary dinner. We chose from... More

Not been here for several years but just had a very enjoyable lunch with friends. Tasting menu was varied and some of the accompanying wines were very interesting from a knowledgable sommelier. Could certainly recommend having lunch here.

We have made several visits here for dinners and lunches and we have not been disappointed - in fact, it's always been memorable. The service is excellent, on a par with the carefully chosen menu - fine cuisine in elegant surroundings.

Artichoke restaurant is one we've been meaning to visit for sometime now. Whilst only 40 minutes drive away, we visited today and were so impressed we will be returning very soon. An admirably short and creative menu, very knowledgeable staff and a delightful 16th century building with a 21st century interior. 3,4,5 and 6 course menu produced by a very... More
