This old Inn is located in the village of Penn Street near Amersham. It has been extended and caters for large parties. Excellent menu and a superb staff. Lots of atmosphere. In Summer there is a nice garden for drinks and food. Parking opposite the Inn. You will certainly vote your visit a Hit.

Went for a family meal out, all 4 starters turned up cold. As did two of the mains, both sent back to be put in the microwave. Meat chewy and full of fat, potatoes made from frozen and gravy watery. Better quality found at a harvester!

We used to go to the pub for food and it was good. After a break of a year we went today and was disappointed. We had to return two main courses as they were not hot. The other two were OK, but had to be eaten straight away and did not allow for conversation. This was the same with... More

Sadly due to the busy time of year the standard of food was affected. Furthermore staff seemed over stretched and resulted in a slow service with our meals turning up sporadically and some very hot and others lukewarm. Seemed a lot of money to spend on an average meal with slow service. However the staff were pleasant and the atmosphere... More

Thank you for this review. I have been trying to think about then your party were here and can only assume that it was a last minute booking on a day when we also had a lot of 'walk-ins' as we are generally better staffed through December due to knowing our bookings. I apologise if your meals were not up... More

We had a round table plenty of room .The tempura prawn starter was delicious. I had calves liver as a main and that was beautifully cooked several of our party... More

Arrived at the hit and miss for a family gathering today and I must say it was truly beautiful. Been to many local village pubs and this certainly didn't let us down. Only a basic buffet had by us but the atmosphere and the cosy welcome was just lovely. Open fire and lots of nice places to sit. If we... More

The Hit & MIss provided the weary Chiltern Weekend Walkers with a warm fire and very good hot chocolate ( which at £ 3 it had better be ! ). Spacious, friendly and with a pleasant smattering of local pictures and clippings to look at. One of my companions recommended a return to eat properly, apparently they have a card... More

Thank you for this great review. I'm glad you so enjoyed the fire and the Chocolate as a break on your weekend walk. We would love to welcome you back for a meal and yes, we do offer vouchers during the Winter months and cricket is still played opposite most Summer Sundays. More

We had a very enjoyable lunch at the Hit or Miss. The service was excellent, nothing was too much trouble. The food was good too. We had a selection of food including sandwiches, light meals and main courses, all at reasonable prices. Everyone enjoyed their food. We will definitely come back for more !

Four of us went to the Hit or Miss for lunch, this was our first visit and certainly will not be our last. Initially when looking through the choices of sandwiches and other lunchtime snacks we thought them to be a little too "fancy" as we tend to like fairly traditional fillings but soon realised that we only had to... Thank you very much for this detailed review. I appreciate your comments about our sandwiches seeming 'fancy' as this is somewhat deliberate on our part in that we try to offer something you wouldn't normally have at home, but as you rightly state, we are happy to adjust to suit individual tastes - if we have the food, then we... What a wonderful evening! The food and wine were excellent, service spot on. Although the pub was full to bursting the quality of the food was unbelievable with a huge choice on the menu. Mary and all the staff made us very welcome, the atmosphere was perfect for a New Years eve celebration. We will definately be back again soon!

Thank you for this great review. New Year's Eve is always a very popular evening, selling out long before Christmas each year. I'm delighted that the quality of our food remained 'unbelievable' during this hectic evening and that you all felt so welcome and enjoyed the fantastic atmosphere. We look forward to seeing you again soon. More
