Fathers Day

We had not been here for about 9 years until my son and his wife invited us for a Fathers Day lunch. The food was very good and the staff coped very well with the number of families dining. The fixed price menu was good value and the size of portions was more than adequate. I think we will return... read more

How did we not know about this pub earlier? Hidden away in a rural location but very near to Commuter towns. Super olde world pub opposite the cricket ground and duck pond. Very personable landlord. Sat outside for drinks watching the sun go down and then into the half timbered pub for a delicious meal. Had an excellent steak in... More

We visit regularly as a family. Love the food and the sharing dessert platter! A winner for us everytime.

I really appreciate this lovely review of our pub. It's great to hear that you have 'discovered' us again after all that time. I'm pleased that you found our meals such good value and that your thought the portion sizes were good. We look forward to seeing you for more Sunday lunches and perhaps evenings as well. More

Popped in on Father's Day in the hope of getting a table, the owner very kindly sat us down. The food was amazing, the roast beef was cooked perfectly and delivered very quickly. I will be back to sample the evening menu. It was a shame we had to leave as time was getting on.

I had heard good things about this pub from my parents and decided to go for a celebration meal. We chose three starters between six of us: garlic bread, fish cake and a chicken caesar salad. I would say all of these were mediocre - the fish cake was nothing special with very little flavour. For mains I had the... More

Thank you for this review. I'm sorry you were disappointed with your starters, our fishcakes are particularly well praised and our chicken salad is definitely freshly cooked. I do apologise about the Pork as this was a particular problem on that night, thence the reason we sorted it for you, and has since been rectified. I'm a little confused about... More

Pleasant food, nicely prepared and presented, but not as much as you would expect. We were not unhappy to have made the drive there, but won't do it again. Service was ok though one of the staff, perhaps the owner, seemed to get more unsteady as the evening went on

Thank you for taking the time to review our pub. I'm sorry you were disappointed with the portion sizes as the lighter meals are not quite a full main course size, but we are currently reviewing this to try to balance it better. We hope to see you again in the future. More

Went for a quick lunch on a Saturday. The menu is very old fashioned, and also very sparse. I went for a meat baguette and my wife went for a brie open sandwich. Neither included chips so had to be ordered separately. The prices are extortionate. £8.50 for a baguette without chips !! My wife's was simply burnt brie on... More

Thank you for this review. I'm not sure what you mean by old-fashioned, and I assume by sparse you mean a limited choice which is necessary when all dishes are prepared fresh - a large menu can only be offered with frozen or packaged meals. Our sandwiches come with a Salad as we find that more popular nowadays than chips... More

Food and service excellent. There were four of us and we all ordered something different. Everything was delicious. Definitely above average pub food. The only disappointment was that when my husband asked for Malva pudding, we were told there wasn't any left. It was suggested that if we came again we could pre-order. We will almost certainly be going back... More

Thank you for this terrific review. I'm glad all 4 of you thought everything was delicious. Yes, the Malva Pudding is very popular and I'm sorry that we had run out of it that day. We look forward to seeing you again soon and please ring us beforehand to request we have Malva on the menu for you as our... More

It's a very quirky countryside type place which wouldn't be out of place on the Vicar of Dibley. The interior decor has many cricket references and outside is beautiful in good weather. Food is tasty and reasonably priced. The beer festival in July is a real highlight.

Thanks very much for this review. I think the Dibley reference is good, although I'm not certain our locals would agree! Then again, we are also often compared to Midsomer, so not sure which is better. I'm pleased you liked the cricket, the garden and the food. Yes, Beer Fest is coming up again soon on the 10th July, so... More
