Mostly Very Good

The place was packed and there was no waiting area, but we were quickly shown to our table. Service was a little slow but very friendly and always anxious to please. Our starters were the star of the show - a haddock and prawn concoction and a chicken liver in filo pastry which was both a work of... read more

I've been to The Hit many times and it's by far one of the best pubs/restaurants in the area, whether you would live to eat or just drink. It's really cosy and inviting, the food is fantastic quality and plenty to choose from. I love the chips, the sandwiches come in thick bloomer bread, and the main meals are always... More

We booked for an after-funeral reception. An afternoon buffet of sandwiches, scones with cream and jam, cakes and biscuits and a fruit platter was provided all freshly prepared and home cooked. The quantity was fine and the quality was very good. The staff were welcoming and helpful and not intrusive. Plenty of parking, all-in-all a recommendable venue.

The Hit or Miss pub is a beautiful establishment in a wonderful part of Britain. It is very tolerant of dogs and children and exudes a friendly atmosphere. It is everything you would want from a pub. Great food, drink and overall comfortable. My wife and I booked the Hit or Miss for a buffet following our Daughter's Baptism in... More

I have eaten many times & have never had a bad meal here. The service is excellent also, always appreciate a smile when being served makes a big difference. This visit my partner had the roast Lamb & I had the roast Beef both were very tasty. We also both appreciated the thick slices of meat rather than the semi... More

My husband and I had lunch here on 10th December after a long walk in the lovely countryside nearby. The restaurant was very busy with Christmas parties but despite this we were seated quickly and the service was excellent. My husband opted for the steak and chips and thoroughly enjoyed his meal. I opted for the wood pigeon main course... More

We popped into his place on spec - just been driving to Aylesbury and came back the long way. It was busy, but the helpful team slotted us straight in - straight in with the drinks and the fresh water on the table. The menu seems to cover it all, from simple food to slightly more complicated fare. All,was ordered... More

40 of us came for our Christmas lunch. We had a fantastic lunch with plenty of choices. The food was beautifully cooked and the presentation was excellent. The staff were friendly and attentive. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and would like to thank all the staff. We would highly recommend this country pub

We took our son for his birthday celebratory lunch here on Sunday. It has a good reputation locally and we were not disappointed. Wide choice of proper beer and a huge Sunday roast, beautifully cooked. The desert was one of the best I have had in a long time but unfortunately my son - who didn't have room for one... More

Situated very close to some forrest walks, this pub is a perfect place to bring your dog after a long hike through the bush. The friendly staff gave our dogs treats, and a wood fire with seats near added some nice ambience. There are a few independent brews available, as well as a couple familiar taps. Food is good.

Many thanks for this. I'm delighted you enjoyed our pub after walking with your dogs. We always welcome 'dogs with well-behaved owners' in the hard-floor areas of the pub. Seems you enjoyed the beers and we hope to see you back again soon. More
