Really Friendly country pub

Food and service excellent. There were four of us and we all ordered something different. Everything was delicious. Definitely above average pub food. The only disappointment was that when my husband asked for Malva pudding, we were told there wasn't any left. It was suggested that if we... read more

Went for a quick lunch on a Saturday. The menu is very old fashioned, and also very sparse. I went for a meat baguette and my wife went for a brie open sandwich. Neither included chips so had to be ordered separately. The prices are extortionate. £8.50 for a baguette without chips !! My wife's was simply burnt brie on... More

Thank you for this review. I'm not sure what you mean by old-fashioned, and I assume by sparse you mean a limited choice which is necessary when all dishes are prepared fresh - a large menu can only be offered with frozen or packaged meals. Our sandwiches come with a Salad as we find that more popular nowadays than chips... More

Thank you for this terrific review. I'm glad all 4 of you thought everything was delicious. Yes, the Malva Pudding is very popular and I'm sorry that we had run out of it that day. We look forward to seeing you again soon and please ring us beforehand to request we have Malva on the menu for you as our... More

It's a very quirky countryside type place which wouldn't be out of place on the Vicar of Dibley. The interior decor has many cricket references and outside is beautiful in good weather. Food is tasty and reasonably priced. The beer festival in July is a real highlight.

Thanks very much for this review. I think the Dibley reference is good, although I'm not certain our locals would agree! Then again, we are also often compared to Midsomer, so not sure which is better. I'm pleased you liked the cricket, the garden and the food. Yes, Beer Fest is coming up again soon on the 10th July, so... More

Our favourite pub in Amersham area - warm welcome (including dogs), convivial atmosphere, great food (including veggie dishes), and friendly staff. We have been going to the Hit or Miss for years and we love it every time. Combine it with a walk through the lovely Penn Wood, and you will have a terrific day out.

Many thanks for this review. I'm delighted that we are your favourite pub in the area and that you keep returning for the welcome, the atmosphere, the great food and the friendly staff. We certainly have quite a few customers who walk in the woods before stopping off with us for refreshments. More

We recently visited The Hit or Miss on Penn Street, Buckinghamshire... and I'm so glad we did...this pub/restaurant epitomises the hospitable nature of the villages in the south of the U.K. We were struck by the picturesque setting and the cosy atmosphere inside.... and the food!! I enjoyed the most delicious chips I've ever tasted..the kind of chips we're always... More

I took my Father here for lunch as a trip down memory lane, since we used to meet my Grandparents at the Hit or Miss over 40 years ago. We both had a very enjoyable 'light' lunch, the sandwiches are certainly generous with a nice selection of fillings. The draught beer whose name escapes me at this moment, my memory's... More

On pretty much every occasion we visit the Hit or Miss it has been a big hit with our family. We have been coming here for years, mostly special occasions when the kids were back from university or staying for the weekend, birthdays, mother’s day, the beer festival, or just a nice summers evening to sit in the beautiful beer... Thank you for this very detailed review. I'm disappointed that you have had so many good visits to our pub without giving a review, but have taken a lot of time when you had a less pleasant visit. I will try to answer some of your concerns for that evening. I appreciate that there was some confusion over the particular... More

We met friends here halfway between locations and originally thought it would be a great venue. Not brilliant as we discovered for Sunday lunch. Just way under expectations. Will remain a Miss for us

Thank you for this review, but I am unsure of what actually was 'not brilliant' or why we were 'under expectations'. More

An old pub with larger than average public area for eating/drinking. Cool in summer but also in winter!! Food just above average and service just below but nothing to complain about. Probably slightly understaffed when we visited (Friday lunchtime) but they weren't hugely busy. Recommend for a good but nothing special weekday lunch.
