Yesterday My Fiancé had expressed earlier in the week to go for a Sunday Roast as she had had this yearning for some time. While I was at Olympia spending all my money on vinyl she did a bit of research to find a pub within easy reach from home. When I got back she had found 3 of them... More

Thank you very much for this lovely extensive review of our pub. I'm glad that you were so pleased with the way we handled your seating and ordering as we do find it better that way during a busy session. Our Sunday menu is deliberately limited to 5 choices for each course in order to ensure we can handle the... More

Excellent Sunday roasts in a beautiful traditional English country pub. Good-sized portions of perfectly cooked meat & vegetables, and a good homemade apple crumble. I'd certainly go again. I should add for completeness that this appeared a very popular place for Sunday lunch and is also 'family friendly' so is busy & slightly bustling.

Thank you for this lovely review. I'm delighted you enjoyed our Sunday lunch so much. It is indeed always very popular, particularly during the main lunch period, but a little quieter later in the afternoon. We look forward to seeing you again soon. More

Definitely going down hill we had a dissapointing meal. The food was at best average the ingredients seemed cheap the service was well meaning but not great. We have been going to this pub to eat for many years and this time it was an expensive evening out with the family and we were very dissapointed.

Thank you for your feedback, but I am not sure what actually was disappointing as you don't mention the individual dishes that you had. I do not understand your comments about cheap ingredients as we have been purchasing the same quality ingredients from the same suppliers for 10 years. I would appreciate you contacting me directly to discuss what it... More

We've eaten at the Hit or Miss for years and have watched it go from an excellent country pub with great food and friendly service to a lack lustre offering on all fronts. The pub was half full on a Saturday night, never a good sign. We were shown to our table and told someone would be with us in... More

It’s interesting that you use the term “such a shame” to describe us as it reflects my feelings exactly regarding your visit and this review. We always welcome feedback, but it’s “such a shame” that you didn’t take the opportunity to speak to me directly on the evening when we were chatting merrily about your choices of having starters as... Good real ale and wine list, great menu and value for money food. Good service. The annual beer festival in July should not be missed. We have also had a private bbq birthday party and post funeral get together all catered for and served in a great friendly manner.

Decided on this pub after looking at various pub websites in the area and went for this one based on interesting sounding food plus home cooked kids food too. We were not disappointed. The pub was well run and staffed. We didn't have to wait too long for our meals which we enjoyed ( all except our 5 year old... More

Thank you for this great review. Yes, our home-cooked children's meals can confuse kids sometimes, but most come to love them and the parents certainly appreciate the genuine article. I'm delighted you felt we have a well-run pub with a friendly atmosphere and good food. We look forward to welcoming you back whether for a Sunday Roast or at another... More

5 out of 6 of us went for sirloin steak. We were all delighted that medium rare was just that. The sauces were great too and chips plentiful and beautifully cooked. The puddings were great too. My Creme brûlée was perfect. The food arrived promptly and the staff and their service was excellent. They deserved their tip. We had not... More

Yesterday being one of those sad moments in life, our family found the staff at The Hit or Miss to be very understanding. We enjoyed an excellent lunch at The Hit or Miss.
