The menu here hasn't changed in ages, and is really a bit tired looking as is the bar area. If you want to go and have a meal outside on a nice evening, don't bother if you want to eat before 7PM as they don't want to take your order until 6.45. The food is OK but pricey for what... More

Thank you for your feedback. I'm a little confused about your comment on the menu not changing as we alter it regularly to fit in with the changing seasons. There are certainly one or two items that we never change such as the Tempura Prawns due to their extreme popularity. We also provide daily specials giving even our very regular... More

Although not somewhere I had thought to take "Special" guests it certainly amazed me when we decided to stop in for a quick bit. A beautiful area well worth going for the drive. The menu was quite extensive and the array of beers kept the men happy. I would take anyone to the Hit Nd Miss for lunch or dinner.... More

Travelled over from Dublin with a few friends to take part in the Penn Street Beer Festival on Saturday 12/07/14 and we were so glad we did! The setting of Penn street is breathtakingly scenic, a lovely quaint countryside area nestled amongst trees and fields and yet only a 10 minute drive from nearby Beaconsfield. The atmosphere around the street... More

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a brilliantly detailed review. You certainly seemed to enjoy the atmosphere provided by both pubs in the village and I'm delighted you found the cider selection was so plentiful - I like the title 'Cider Heaven'. I'm so glad you enjoyed our Gourmet BBQ, Spit Hog Roast and that... More

I recently had my first visit to this beautifully set, rustic country pub during the 'Penn Street beer festival' in July of this year, and it certainly wont be my last. The large array of ales, stouts, lagers and ciders from near and far, along with atmosphere setting entertainment, truly brought this sleepy corner of Buckinghamshire alive and allowed the... More

A wonderful event once again, friends came from as far as Kent to enjoy the festival and it didn't disappoint. Great food on the BBQ, great bands in the car parks and great beers in the tents! Didn't quite manage to sample all 100, but we surpassed 75 between us! Same again next year!

I visited for the first time during Penn Street beer festival. A great village pub, with friendly staff. Toilets were clean – the personal extras were a great idea! Nice garden with plenty of outdoor seating. Great place to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon.

A group of us went for an evening meal on Saturday 21 June. We were made to feel very welcome by the staff and the landlord. The menu was wide ranging: most of us chose different main courses. The service was just right (not too fast, not too long) and the food was delicious. Price-wise it cost us about £29... More

Having been recommended to visit for the food, I was very disappointed. I had braised steak and it appeared as a small chunk practically black and dry and almost impossible to cut. Will not be visiting again.

Thank you for taking the time to review our pub. I am sorry that you were disappointed and that you did not tell us of the problems with your meal as we would gladly have replaced it for you. As you were recommended, I'm sure that there were other items on the menu that would have suited, but I'm not... More

Found Hit & Miss on the Internet on searching for somewhere near Amersham to hold a family gathering. What a find, greeted with our own area of tables, seating, sun shade and balloons! Six of us went for a meal last nigh and I had probably the most tender delicious liver I've ever eaten. It was as tender as possible and the gravy was really delicious. If I had one criticism and it's just that I had my hopes set on having a steak pie and this pub offers no "pub grub" so... More

Thank you for this feedback. I'm delighted you thought the liver was the most tender delicious liver you have had. Sorry you were disappointed at the lack of pies. We do occasionally offer them on our Specials menu, but naturally not all the time and unfortunately not on the night you were here. Perhaps you'll be more lucky next time. More
