Lots of people have already rated this as "Excellent" and they have my agreement. We chanced upon The Pickled Onion having no fixed idea for lunch with three hot & bothered children who we had just forced up pyramids by the use of pointy sticks. Cold drinks were quickly proffered and the girls got their dearest wishes at that moment... More

A large menu with fair prices. All meals were under 100 pesos. Everything was good. More

Lovely little spot with great home cooked food. Valerie was charming and helpful. It was a pleasant end to a long day at the Uxmal and other ruins. Excellent coffee. She also rents rooms, but that didn't show up in our tour book. More

I had the pleasure of staying at the Pickled Onion for 3 days with my son ( separate review ) and also had the pleasure of 7 meals in the restaurant, 3 breakfasts, 1 lunch, and 3 dinners. For breakfast we could not get past the lavish continental, fresh juice, coffee or tea, fresh fruits, bread, toast, granola and yogurt,... More

We stayed in Santa Elena for one night whilst exploring Uxmal and the Ruta Puuc (it's very close to the likes of Kabah and Sayil) and walked down to the Pickled Onion for some food in the evening. It was a really good experience with excellent food and a friendly host. Everything was fresh and our fajitas were sizzling and... More

We had dinner at the Pickled Onion Restaurant after reading all the great reviews and let's just say we were extremely pleased at the incredible warm welcome we received from the owner/chef/host, Valerie Pickle. The food was so delicious and well-prepared we went back again the next day. Valerie is a lovely, lovely person and very knowledgeable about the various... More

Even though we weren't staying overnight there The Pickled Onion felt like a home away from home. We ate there 3 times and Valerie seemed like a friend from the start. Her life story is an inspiration. She stayed open late to accommodate us one night and invited us to cool off in her pool another time. More

The Pickled Onion is indeed an oasis. Not only are there adorable cabañas, but it is the only place in Santa Elena to CAMP! We arrived on our dual-sport motorcycles to tour Uxmal, pitched a tent and expected to stay for just one night. But, the ambiance of the Onion, with a beautiful pool, garden and super clean grounds, was... More

This was our second year to visit this restaurant and it was as good as our first. Good Yucatecan food, good beer, although by this time our trip I would have welcomed some good American or Canadian comfort food. The mint+ meatballs are close and very good. I had forgotten she had casitas for rent or we would have stayed... More
