Great place to rest and have lunch

We came in on the cruise boats and stopped here after seeing the cruise boat crew there(always a good sign). Food was great and prices were cheap for both food and drinks. Definitely worth seeking out for lunch while in Costa Maya.

It is a beach restaurant in Mahahual, the beach is permanently cleaned by the staff . No Sargassos for swimming, the restaurant beside (40 Cañones) offers excellent ceviche prepared with fish that has been caught by the owner himself or some fishermen. Guacamole is also excellent as well as nachos, you can ask some "habanero" to make your dish more... More

There for the day during our cruise. Yes vendors are pesky, but this is the only way many of their people can make a living. Simply smile and say no thanks. Yes there is seaweed on the beach, but a kind man spent the day raking and disposing of it, and opened beers for my dh when no one else... More

Hate giving a 1/5 but this place needs it. Beach was full of sea grass. We were here for the day could not relax with all the venders begging you all day to buy random stuff. Staff was lacking. They include nachos and salsa its liquid cheese with some store bought tomatoes. The next day we found a better option... More

We dined at 40 cañones twice during our stay in Mahahual, we particularly enjoyed the good service and the excellent food. We had the tuna nachos, both times because it is sooo goooood! And nothing you would expect. Also the tuna filet is excellently cooked. Also the ambience and atmosphere at 40 cañones is the best in town for dining.

Walked from one end of the beach front in Mahahual to the other, with no end of opportunities to have a beer/meal/massage/palapa to hide under. Picked 40 Cannons more or less at random and because we really liked the quiet calm of the guy offering us a place to sit. The beach is clean, the food is great, and the... More

I just had a few drinks when I visited but they made a great Mjito! The restaurant and bar are a little more expensive than the others in the area but compared to other big cities the prices are reasonable (if you are used to traveling and having a drink or eating in major US cities).

We stayed at 40 Canons & it was okay. But the first day we got there we went down to have our first margarita & nachos on the beach. Imagine our surprise after we ordered & the waiter delivered a day glow Margarita and Ball Park Nachos to our table in the restaurant. We've been going to Mexico a very,... More

I was appalled when we ordered nachos and they brought out a pile of cold semi stale chips with cold fluorescent yellow cheese whiz poured over them especially after reading pretty good reviews on the restaurant. Wait staff was mostly non attentive. We travel in Mexico 2 to 3 times a year and are used to waitstaff not being in... More
