Great food with a laid back vibe

My husband and I had a great evening at this very small (seats 20?) restaurant, in the middle of half moon bay. It's a husband and wife affair, with a limited menu centered around lion fish, with a Thai/mex fusion and whatever they feel like cooking. We had tortilla chips with a peanut/pumpkin... read more

Overpriced, small portions, sit in a gravel park lot next to the street under a falling down palapa or tent. Originally this was a neat local place with local food. The cook got a big head and tried to get fancier. How much is enough ginger on/in your food. The employees seemed ok, the manager/owner is a bit special. It... More

My family of 4 ate dinner at Gynn'AK while visiting Akumal in December and were disappointed in the Lion Fish tacos. Note that we had eaten lunch there a few years back and were wowed by them. The newer chef changed what was an awesome, fresh lion fish filet, into a ground up mess that was inedible. The mole chicken... More

We should've know by the lack of business that this place was bad but were tired and hungry from traveling all day. Warning number two was the lack of menus or prices. We were assured by the chef/ owner that everything was tasty but soon found out the only thing worth having was a beer. The killer was that we... More

Gynn’AK Though the setting leaves a bit to be desired, the food at Gynn’AK is not to be missed! Everything was served fresh and, as we were the only diners, the service was excellent. I opted for the Lionfish fillet with Thai slaw: Much tastier than Grouper and the slaw was incredible. The Thai-fusion chicken with saffron rice was perfectly... More

Very small, outdoor cafe that serves mostly lionfish dishes. It is billed as a Thai-Mexican fusion restaurant and that hold true. We had four different dishes and all were amazing. From a lionfish filet to Thai lionfish tacos, it was unique, fresh, and very flavorful. The only thing we wished was different was that the restaurant was on the ocean... More

If this place were on the ocean side of the road instead of the jungle side, and if the owner would decorate it a little more to look like a restaurant, then this place would be a bigger hit. I loved the vegetarian pad thai. We went for lunch and really enjoyed the food. Will definitely go back!

This is an authentic local dining experience; the layout an ecclectic and comfy mix, seating is outdoors but in the shade, complete with the muy simpatico resident mutts who seems to enjoy fish at least as much as the patrons. :-p The lion-fish is very tasty ( we had the cheviche and the fillet), and you are doing a good... Our plan was to check this out while in Akumal. Mid-day stop and not overly hungry. Ordered a couple of pacifico's and the lion fish fillet. Beers were served in plastic glasses. Prefer my beer served straight up in the bottle. The fillet had been done in panko and had a green sauce over it. Jasmine rice with sesame seeds... More

As we were staying right across the street from Gynn'Ak, we thought we'd give it a try. The menu looked intriguing, yet chancy. Unfortunately, our choice to have dinner didn't pay off - at least as far as the meal is concerned. Let me preface my comments by noting that the night we dined there, Gynn, the owner and chef,...
