This delightful, beach front restaurant is entirely rustic. The floor is sand, covered by a light canopy of trees, and the tables and chairs are of roughly crafted wooden stumps. Carlos, the proprietor greets me every trip, with a big smile. He may be pretending to remember me, but that's inconsequential. I prefer to keep gems like this a secret... More

This month we have had dinner about six times over the nine nights we have been in Akumal. The fish fillet with garlic has been fresh, tasty and moist, never overcooked. The side of slaw compliments the fish. It can't be beat at 100 pesos. The octopus with fried garlic is perfectly cooked, tender and moist, and filling. It costs... More

We recently ate here after catching our lunch from Akumal Dive Shop. The captain cleaned our catch, and took it to the restaurant. We ordered fish tacos, and they were excellent and VERY affordable. Our waiter seemed a bit "off put" if we asked for something...almost as if we were interrupting his day. However, this could have been due to... More

had dinner with friends after Happy Hour elsewhere and the portions of fresh fish simply prepared are very reasonable priced. Our friends had been there 3 nights in a row. For about $8-12 US you get a full meal. My husband had the grilled octopus which looked amazing, i had a grilled grouper which was served with coleslaw and tomatoes.... More

The food was mediocre and drinks were made with cheap booze, which explains their cheap prices. Our party of 4 had grilled lobster, stuffed fresh fish, steak, and octopus. The meals came with a small side of terrible coleslaw that tasted like cabbage and plain mayo. Our waiter, an older gentleman, was rude and passed us over for a table... More

Need a snack before or after snorkeling in Akumal Bay - give La Cueva a shot. Best shrimp tacos I had in my week long mariscos fest!

The Mixed Seafood platter is huge, great to share and you won't leave hungry. Chase that with Cerveza by the pitcher and you'll have a wonderful evening.

We had a couple of beers and some fish tacos after a spot of turtle-watching at Akumal Beach, and it was very pleasant. I would say that the fish tacos are tasty here, but marginally nicer at the Turtle Bay Cafe a few doors down (and also slightly more expensive). The table next to us was raving about their grilled... Were a little skeptical at first but trusted what people had told us.... Turned out to be great, octopus was great and shrimp veracruz was fantastic! Loved it!

I can't speak to anything on the menu besides (1) the fish tacos, and (2) the pitcher of margaritas. However, both were so good that we went back two days later and ordered it all over again. The service is lightning fast, the fish is fresh, and the margaritas are really legit. If you're stumbling around Akumal looking for a... More
