Great Local Lunch Spot

For years, on our twice annual visits to Akumal, we've been going to Imelda's for lunch. My favorite dish is chicken fajitas. The portions and prices are reasonable and the food is always good. The charm is unbeatable.

This is a quiet and hidden restaurant no too far from Akumal beach with a local feel to it. Most choices come with rice, beans and tortillas and prices range from 90-120 pesos per dish. We had the fried fish which was very yummy. This is a great place for lunch and definitely recommend it.

We have been coming to Akumal for over 20 years. My kids (now 18 and 15) always want to go to Imeldas on the first morning for the french toast. They both love it! I always get scrambled eggs and beans. It is served with fresh tortillas. The service is great, and it is great to support the small restaurant.... More

Imelda's has been an Akumal landmark for as long as we've been going there (over 10 years). We have stopped for lunch a number of times but on our last trip I said "lets try Imelda's for breakfast". Ingrid ordered the breakfast sandwich and I got the French toast. I knew it would be great when I caught a hint... More

Had the Mayan buffet on a Friday night. You need to make reservations ahead of time but it is well worth it. The food is excellent and you can have a much as you want. There was singing and dancing after we had our food and it was a unique and very pleasurable evening. (Watch out for the Green sauce.... More

Delicious food typical of home-cooked food, prepared and overseen by community people such as Imelda. Her restaurant is tucked away behind the Centro Ecologico Akumal (CEA) on the beach at Akumal. The service is so pleasant, both English and Spanish. Tortillas are fresh. There is even coffee! We also frequent other restaurants in both Akumal Pueblo and Akumal Playa. Imelda's... More

This is was the second time we ate here, last time was two years ago, and it was still just as good. This is the perfect place for lunch if you are in Akumal, the resturant is not a flashy place, but the cooking is like excellent home made food. Good value for the money! When it comes to Akumal... Imelda's is basically an outdoor food stand that serves breakfast and lunch. I adore the place. Imelda is the mom and Karina (I think that's her name) is the daughter. No matter what I've eaten there, it's always delicious - freshly made and full of wonderful flavors. They are also very nice people (and so was the waitress who served... More

The only way you'll know about this place is if you talk to locals or get lost. It appears that the only menu is a huge chalkboard that probably gets changed each day based on what they want to cook. She seriously dragged this big chalkboard over to our table when we needed to order. We spoke to a local... More

Dirt floor delight. Inexpensive and yummy. Chalk board menu covers the days dishes, with a good variety of choices. Glad we stumbled into it.
