Easy to find charming delicious local fare just inside the pueblo of Akumal. Reasonable prices, prepared fresh on site, wide ranged menu... Ceviche was super yummy:)

We enjoyed dinner here two nights out of the three we were in Akumal. Though the restaurant is situated in a humble neighborhood, the host treated us like royalty and prepared for us fresh and delicious seafood, chicken, and vegetables. The menu is varied and there are several preparation choices for the catch of the day. The prices are reasonable,... More

My family and I have vacationed in Akumal 5/6 times now. We always look for off the beaten path places to eat and the opportunity to meet new people. We decided to venture into Akumal Pueblo the other night for a less touristy experience. We could not have been happier to find Alfredo and the Ultimo Maya. After lots of... More

This place may not look like much, but if it's real Mexican food you're interested in, rather than the made-for-Gringo stuff that you can get at the "upscale" restaurants here, then you're in for a treat. My husband had the pescado al limon, while I had the pescado al cilantro, and they were both terrific. The fish was tender, moist,... More

We went there and it was a wonderful surprise to find such a gem. It is not a big "tourist" place, it is a restaurant with real mexican food. The owner was absolutely delightful and the whole experience was a pleasure. We are foodies and very demanding and the food in this place was superb. I absolutely recommend this place.

We sat at El Ultimo Maya and had a wonderful conversation with the chef/owner (in Spanish, although his English was very good). Four of us, unimaginatively, had the pescado with mojo ajo. All four gushed over the rich garlicky sauce and perfectly cooked fish. Tacos and shrimp dishes were equally raved over. Dinner for eight, with beers and sodas, came... More

Off the beaten trail in the pueblo of Akumal (on the top of the hill on the other side of the highway from the beach). Decent food, and remarkable good service, given that we arrived with 3 other families and got our food in a reasonable amount of time. Good fish tacos, although they lacked salsa, or much other garnish,... More

Good little spot to stop for a quick taco, etc. My wife ordered the shrimp tacos con pasilla chiles. Very good but not a great price for the quantity of food that arrived. The menu makes everything look inexpensive until it arrives and you see what you actually get. So, if you want some reasonably priced food at a good... More

We recently ate here after reading fabulous reviews on Facebook. Everything we ate, from cheese quesadillas to steak tacos and seafood was excellent. It is a local restaurant just minutes from Akumal Beach. Parking in front was easy and the service was great.

On a recent trip to Akumal, we visited El Ultimo Maya in the Pueblo twice, and had some of our best meals there. We found the staff friendly, the settling genuine and the food very good. The Lime Soup became my basis for comparison for soups throughout the Yucatan on the rest of our trip, including recommended restaurants in Izamal... More
