Good little spot to stop for a quick taco, etc. My wife ordered the shrimp tacos con pasilla chiles. Very good but not a great price for the quantity of food that arrived. The menu makes everything look inexpensive until it arrives and you see what you actually get. So, if you want some reasonably priced food at a good... More

We recently ate here after reading fabulous reviews on Facebook. Everything we ate, from cheese quesadillas to steak tacos and seafood was excellent. It is a local restaurant just minutes from Akumal Beach. Parking in front was easy and the service was great.

On a recent trip to Akumal, we visited El Ultimo Maya in the Pueblo twice, and had some of our best meals there. We found the staff friendly, the settling genuine and the food very good. The Lime Soup became my basis for comparison for soups throughout the Yucatan on the rest of our trip, including recommended restaurants in Izamal... More

In 2010 the visit here made my trip to Mexico. If we weren't at La Buena Vida we were here for Real Mexican/Yucataeo/Mayan food. TVs were on the wall with the soccer/football game on, and while the clientele were primarily male, there was a safe, family atmosphere. This visit made me wonder if I had wandered into the wrong place!... More

Had a late lunch at El Ultimo Maya in Akumal Pueblo on 5 Dec. We were the only ones there. Gabriel (the owner) seemed glad to see us. The fish was good, and the shrimp tacos & margaritas were outstanding...both the best we have ever had. Next time I will be ordering the grilled shrimp. Don't expect anything fancy or... More

Leave the beach, go across the bridge over the highway and into Akumal Pueblo. At the top of the hill, look to your right and stop at the sign that says "El Ultimo Maya". Such a wonderful experience! I had Tikinxik Fish (amazing fish filet, onions and spices cooked in a banana leaf) and the Mr had beef (res) tacos.... More

We ate year Nov. 2011 and it was FANTASTIC!!! So good we returned 3 times during our stay in Akumal but while we there last year, Nov. 2012, they were not open at all...very bummed out. Hopefully they will be open while we are there this year as this was some of the best food we had during any of... More

Bought lunch here yesterday to take back to Akumal condo. DELICIOUS! Owner sat out front to chat with me while her daughter? cooked our carne and pollo tacos, which cost mexican prices (70mxn for 3x carne 45mxn for 3x pollo) Heading back for dinner tonight and fully expect amazing food :)

Large, open restaurant. Cheap and plentiful and really good (I had the shrimp tacos). It gets crowded as the evening wears on, but I had an early dinner and there were only 3 customers. As I walked by the next day, the manager waved at me and called me by name. Next time, I think this will be my home... More

We had dinner at Teresa's several nights ago and were very impressed with our Tikinxic meal This is a dish that we often look for, as it is one of our favorites, but we are nearly always disappointed. Not at El Ultimo Maya! To begin with, the filet was quite large. Then it was covered with spices and vegetables, wrapped... More
