This is one of our favorite eating places. The food is consistently very good - particularly Salvador's (Chavo's) specials like his stuffed chiles (chile en nogada). The garden is particularly pleasant, away from any traffic noises, and the chickens are always entertaining! The combination of good food, reasonable prices, a gracious host and relaxing atmosphere will always bring us back.... More

We are staying nearby and it was quite rainy and sloppy the other night, so we decided to give Tio's a try since it was so close. I'm glad we did. The starter, cream de ecolote (corn) was just like Mother used to make if Mother had been an Aztec princess who was also a wonderful cook. Delicious and creamy.... More

The beef medallions are great. Salvador, your host and the owner, occasionally will cook Chilis en Nogada - a very special Mexican meal not often found in restaurants. If you get a chance to go to one of these by reservation only dinners, you will experience a wonderful dish full of history and taste appeal. Salvador also makes the BEST... More

I was wandering the west side of the village and needed a break. The waiter (I suspect the owner) was attentive and spoke very good English. I loved the twinkle in his eye and humor in his voice. I ordered the special. The cream of corn soup was incredible. Subtle, simple and creamy. My steak was the right on doneness.... More

What is really too bad is folks who have had many enjoyable meals someplace and then write a negative review when they hit the inevitable meal that does not measure up. A great little out of the way place ( only by a few blocks) owned and operated by the always amusing owner Salvador with stories galore of the old... More

We have been to Tio Domingo on several occasions since we have lived here in Ajijic over the past 10 yrs. The food has always been very good and reasonably priced. This evening my wife and I plus several other couples went for a "Posada" pre-Christmas Mexican dinner there. When we sat down, we did not know what to expect... More

Salvador, the owner, will make you feel like part of the family. He serves the BEST chile rellenos in all of Mexico; his menu is limited but varied, including boneless ribs, Mexican sampler plate, beef medalions, and much more.

Have been twice and the food and service were spectaular. Steaks perfect, side dishes the same. This little place has been here since 1999 and Salvador has it down. Possibly the fact it is in the far west of the village has something to do with the traffic, #204 Ocampo, just past Rio Bravo. This house deserves a try. You... More
