A taste of Acadia

The owners of the Inn we were staying at had recommended Le Gabriel, so we gave it a try. The front is a family restaurant, with a generally older crowd, and the back was a pub that I believe had pool tables. There were also hooked rugs for sale behind the cash desk. Most people seemed to be... read more

The sign out in front said "Music 7-9". It did not specify what kind, and we mistakenly thought it would be Celtic since we were in Cape Breton. But it was two guitarists singing country. The chowder was OK. Mostly for locals who are tired of Celtic music.

Stopped In on the way to the Cabot Trail, we had no plans as to where we were going to eat but this place looked nice and was on the main road so we decided to stop in. We were seated immediately by very friendly waitstaff. The seafood was fresh and expertly prepared, and all the food was delicious. After... More

Excellent seafood restaurant! Chowder was just out-of-this world. Portions are very large especially on the fisherman's platters so you might want to consider sharing! We found out the hard way just how large they were! Food was fresh and tasty and the service was excellent!

We have passed this restaurant in Cheticamp, saving ourselves from terrible rainy weather, the shower just following us. The restaurant is situated in a fancy wooden building right in the center of Cheticamp on the main street, facing the seaside. The inside decorations are very nice, they have a small gift shop where you can buy nice rugs, local handcraft.... More

Captain Gilles from our whale watching trip in Pleasant Bay recommended Gabriel's and we were glad. We were there in the afternoon and there were only a few customers. Our waitress was super nice and everything we ate was delicious. I had the Acadien platter and others in my party had the fish and chips, seafood stir fry, and a... More

We were looking for a convenient place to have lunch on our way to the Cabot Trail. With it's huge lighthouse and bright colors, it's hard to miss Le Gabriel. The staff were very friendly and there are quite a few choices on the menu. They offer a sampler platter of traditionnal Acadian food as well as seafood. The wait... More

My wife and I stopped here for lunch. A bus tour was just leaving so we thought the food can't be that bad. Well, the food was delicious. We both had the fresh crab roll. Nice large pieces of fresh Nova Scotia snow crab served on a toasted hot dog roll with lettuce and mayo. The crab was plentiful, tender... More

We went to Le Gabriel twice, once for dinner and once for music in the bar. We enjoyed sitting in the little room in their lighthouse and were well taken care of, but the food was only so-so. Later during our stay in Cheticamp, however, we returned to listen to a pair of Cape Breton musicians and enjoyed that thoroughly.... More
