The owner has announced that Al's will be closing next month. Despite the fact that, over time, they raised their prices considerably, it was still one of the best informal sit-down places in Grand Forks. I'll miss their onion rings. It will not be replaced by another restaurant.

The chicken dumpling soup is great, however, the amount given in the "bowl" option is not consistent. One visit we got a great "bowl" of soup and the other times we got the bowl but with half the soup. Makes one want to ask who's serving in the back room!

Lots of variety on the menu. There is something for everyone. Great appetizers also and I love the lavosh. Do not forget to grab one of their yummy monster cookies on the way out!

Had a grinder sandwich that was mediocore at best - not much meat-ham, turkey & taco meat, just a touch of each with lettuce tomato and a sauce that was like mayo with hot sauce.. It was fresh and priced reasonably. The onion rings as the side were the best part.

the best I have ever had. The wife and I go there just for some beers and onion rings. The dipping sauce is ridiculous. You could put that sauce on your shoe and it would be good. The rib tips are great as well as the red potatoes with the cream gravy. I would stay away from the nachos...not that... More

We arrived at the start of the lunch rush and we were surprised how full the place was. By the time we left people were lined up waiting for tables. I liked the fact that people were seated in the order they arrived not matter what size of table. It can be frustrating when patrons arrive and they are parked... More

The food was OK, but the walleye was not as we'd heard about them. Good service, good sides, but when you have your heart set on yummy walleye and it doesn't deliver, it rated average.

We were looking for some good food and this place nailed it. We ordered the ribs which were perfectly done and also the rib-eye steak which was also perfectly done. There was so much food we could barely finish it and thankfully we ordered dessert to go, the peanut butter brownie was nice and the carrot cake was out of... More

We thought we would give this diner a try with our family. It was what you would expect from a diner. Good service and decent food. Nothing to really write home about but nothing bad either.
