Go on Down to Duke’s Place—Great Breakfast, Low Prices

This non-descript diner along a commercial strip is easy to pass by…but don’t. The traditional diner breakfast fare—omelets, pancakes, grits, etc. is available, but the quality is a cut above the rest. You can’t go wrong with anything on this menu, but the smoked sausage is not to be missed... read more

Y. U. M. Substantial portions. Home cooked. You leave with a happy belly and it's not too bad on the pocketbook either. Very friendly and always glad to see you!

By far they have the best breakfast in town. It is a great value and you get lots for your money. The breakfast special(, which includes 2 eggs, your choice of meat, grits, gravy, or hash browns. and toast or biscuits. And a pancake) will fill up even the heartiest eater. As far as the Hash Browns, they have the... More

You can't beat what you get for what you spend for breakfast. But unfortunately, the service quality is just like their prices...low. If you are not in a hurry then you will be very pleased.

This place is one of the great traditions of Winston-Salem. It's not much to look at but the food is delicious and plentiful. I highly recommend this place at lunch when you're as likely to see the city's US Senator or a construction worker. From judges and attorneys to parolees and pastors. The daily cafeteria choices are all freshly made... More

Somehow I've never noticed this place, until recently when a colleague wanted to have lunch here. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but they are clearly doing something right because the place was packed when we went in. You can either get in to a sort of cafeteria-style line and ask for your food (meat and 2 or... More

I eat here only on an occasional basis just because it's not closer to my home-wish it was closer. You can't beat the breakfasts here, very good, very reasonably priced, and excellent service even when they are busy.

Dukes had some of the best pancakes ever! They were yummy, and it was a good portion size, and it was fresh. The waiter was very nice, as well. After I ate the food though, it made me feel like I needed to take a nap, because the food was so filling. I would totally recommend this restaurant to anyone.... More

Judging from my experience and the other reviews, it appears that the verdict is in: This is the best place ( at least in 2014) to eat breakfast in Winston-Salem. Casual atmosphere, reasonable prices, good friendly service and tastey food.

Dukes always has a full house for Saturday morning breakfast and no wonder. It is hard to beat the $6.20 special that includes two eggs, a pancake, grits, toast, choice of pig (bacon, sausage or my favorite, tenderloin) AND coffee. Service is always excellent. Food is consistent.
