This quaint cafe has wonderful service. There are a variety of sandwiches, soups, and salads offered. Our selections included a salad and sandwich combination which is perfect for lunch. The desserts looked to be delicious, but unfortunately we did not have time to sample. I hope to when we return!

Located on the Water Street side of The Cotton Exchange with convenient free parking in front, the German Cafe is always on our agenda when visiting Wilmington. The wurst platter of three different German sausages served with sauerkraut and potato salad is a tasty introduction to German cuisine. The Cafe also serves quintessential German dishes like schnitzels and has a... More

I love German food, and it's hard to find, so I was excited to come here for my second visit. This time I was here with my extended family, some of whom had never had German food before. We shared tastes of everyone's meals, so I got to try three different plates. Both the saubraten and the Jagerschnitzel were very... More

Ate at the cafe July 10th. I hadn't eat there in a couple of years, but it hadn't changed a bit. We had reubens, potato pancakes, and their wonderful German potato salad. You can't go wrong there. If you're looking for something a little different, try it. I think you will like it.

Delicious Reubens! Great atmosphere with restaurant being in a renovated cotton warehouse. Old world charm with friendly service. An extra plus with it being part of Cotton Exchange! Lunch or dinner and shopping is a win win situation!

As The German Cafe is close to my office, it's a regular go-to spot for lunch. Today, there were 5 of us. Three had salads, one had a turkey sandwich, and only one had a traditional German sausage platter. My chef salad was huge and I had the Blue Cheese dressing--which I always have because it is PERFECT. I understand... More

We took my wife here for a surprise birthday dinner. Her mother is German and she was born in Germany so I felt sure she would love this place. We ordered potato cakes and applesauce appetizer which I thought was just average. I had the Wurst platter and it was very good. I am not big on sauerkraut so I... More

Went here recently for lunch. Traditional german choices were various wursts and the schnitzel sandwich. Our party had a couple different wursts, schnitzel sandwich, and a Reuben (lots of meat on the sandwich). Overall the food was tasty and the atmosphere and attire of the servers had a heavy german influence. Took home some of the strudel which was really... More

We took the kids here for lunch on a visit to the area. The salad was fresh and the pork schnitzel was cooked just right. The grill cheese was cripsy on the outside and well melted in the middle. Everyone at the table had sweet iced tea and agreed it was very good. We all enjoyed the dessert...napoleans.

Seemed unusual to find an authentic looking German restaurant near the harbor. Happen to love certain German foods, especially viener schnitzel. And of course, the beer...yes, the beer!
