Delicious Reubens! Great atmosphere with restaurant being in a renovated cotton warehouse. Old world charm with friendly service. An extra plus with it being part of Cotton Exchange! Lunch or dinner and shopping is a win win situation!

As The German Cafe is close to my office, it's a regular go-to spot for lunch. Today, there were 5 of us. Three had salads, one had a turkey sandwich, and only one had a traditional German sausage platter. My chef salad was huge and I had the Blue Cheese dressing--which I always have because it is PERFECT. I understand... More

We took my wife here for a surprise birthday dinner. Her mother is German and she was born in Germany so I felt sure she would love this place. We ordered potato cakes and applesauce appetizer which I thought was just average. I had the Wurst platter and it was very good. I am not big on sauerkraut so I... More

Went here recently for lunch. Traditional german choices were various wursts and the schnitzel sandwich. Our party had a couple different wursts, schnitzel sandwich, and a Reuben (lots of meat on the sandwich). Overall the food was tasty and the atmosphere and attire of the servers had a heavy german influence. Took home some of the strudel which was really... More

We took the kids here for lunch on a visit to the area. The salad was fresh and the pork schnitzel was cooked just right. The grill cheese was cripsy on the outside and well melted in the middle. Everyone at the table had sweet iced tea and agreed it was very good. We all enjoyed the dessert...napoleans.

Seemed unusual to find an authentic looking German restaurant near the harbor. Happen to love certain German foods, especially viener schnitzel. And of course, the beer...yes, the beer!

We used to dine here occasionally and then forgot about it. We wandered in for lunch recently and remembered why we used to go there. It is located in an old historic building near the riverfront. There are several small, wood paneled rooms and little nooks and crannies. The service is prompt, professional and friendly. Think they must have a... More

The German Café has a great location right in the Cotton Exchange in downtown Wilmington, NC. The décor is cute and the service is great! It has a very cozy German vibe. The beer was authentic and delicious! And the portions are HUGE. But the food was lacking. The salad was very fresh and crisp with really good dressing. The... More

This is a little gem of Wilmington. We enjoyed the atmosphere, the food and the service. The schnitzels were delightful as well as the selection of draft beer.

I was somewhat sceptical finding a German restaurant in Wilmington NC. But what a nice surprise. Ice cold German beer and a sausage lunch special with friendly service made our visit a treat.
