Just around the corner from our hotel..the Courtyard and within a tourist shopping area. The food was delicious and worth the 15 minute wait for brunch. We enjoyed walking around all of the shops on multilevels in the old Cotton Warehouse buildings after.

This was the first time we've visited Wilmington and had our lunch at The Basics after visiting the USS North Carolina. We had the pulled pork sandwich, North Carolina style, with coleslaw and vinegar based BQ sauce. Very different from the Mid-west but very tasty. Also tried the Hoppin' Johns, different but good. Enjoyed our lunch. Service was very good.... More

Every time I visit downtown Wilmington I end up at The Basics; I especially love their weekend brunches (although b'fast any day is good - especially since you can always get their biscuits, the weekend specials are fabulous) and they have numerous strong options for lunch (it's the sort of place that makes both good salads and good burgers). It's... More

Cute place right on the main strip. Definitely might pass it by as it is a bit unassuming (in a good way). If you do pass it by you will likely miss out on one of the gems in Wilmington. Amazing food and great service.

So disappointed all around on our recent visit. Maybe it was an off night but there were too many issues for me to think this was just a one off event. The service was very poor even though they were not very busy, perhaps this should have been a red flag on a Saturday night. The food had potential if... More

We had a nice lunch at The Basics in Wilmington. For us the must to order was the classic shrimp and grits...very nice dish, full of flavour. We ordered fried oysters as well which was a nice introduction to cooked oysters given we normally would eat them raw. Worth a try for the less adventurous that would not eat it... More

The Co-Co Cola cake was a slice of heaven. The dark meat of the bird was one of the juciest things I've ever had.

My husband and I are regulars at The Basics. We adore their Sunday brunch menu! Aside from the most delicious regular items (spinach feta grill/the southern Benedict) they also ALWAYS have yummy specials on the blackboard. They have delicious side items; we love the biscuits and the potato cake. The food is fresh and served piping hot! They keep your... More

On my girls weekend to Wilmington, we stopped in for lunch. Although the restaurant was busy we received excellent service and friendly care. The salads are very nice with interesting combinations and the sandwiches and sides were delicious. We started with the fried oyster appetizer. Totally set the mood for the meal! Everyone was pleased, even a first timer☺️.
