Some shopping in the Cotton Exchange and hunger led us to this place. Never having eaten here, we thought it a good opportunity. We had the luncheon salad special which was a Grilled Chicken Spinach Salad with strawberries, almonds, feta cheese and balsamic dressing for about $10. It sounded good. The portion of added items was small - the plate... More

We were leaving the beach, on the way home. It was time for brunch, and we were hungry. My step-daughter likes to try new places, and after checking around, chose The Basics. It was easy to find in restored, old downtown Wilmington, NC. I was sorry we had just missed the breakfast cut-off because I was hungry for pancakes, but,... More

Ok but same old bar stuff on the menu. Service a bit slow and tables cramped, especially on the second floor. Nothing really unique.

My wife and I happened upon this place one afternoon when walking the streets of downtown Wilmington. We decided we would try breakfast the next morning. OMG this place is phenomenal. The food, everything that you see leave the kitchen as you wait to be seated will completely captivate you. The sight, the smell of the food is almost too... More

We have eaten dinner there a couple of times over the course of last week and have found the experience to be a great one. The service is friendly and knowledgeable, the food has a great presentation, the menu is eclectic in nature and intent, and the atmosphere is warm and calm. Truly, it is a great experience away from... More

I've been going there at least twice a month since last year. The menu is ever changing and rooted in the best southern traditions. The food is always fresh and extremely flavorful. The service is warm and relaxed, but not slow. The music is perfect and the decor is spot on. Breakfast and dinner is the best. Try the crab... More

Great variety of menu with reasonable prices. We were a large group and service was good despite that. Actually had a meal here 3 days in a row. Would highly suggest for anyone locally or visiting! Kudos!

Lunch for two days. Fabulous food prepared fresh. There was nothing that had come off of a frozen food truck. Full bodied tastes that are not often encountered.

Friends had recommended Basics for brunch. We tried it recently and were very pleased. The special omelet was choc full of goodies and the blueberry oatmeal pancakes were enough to feed a regiment. Service was a little slow, but who's in a hurry on Sunday? Try it - you'll like it.

Great menu with some good selections and not too expensive. The service was not the fastest but not slow by any means. The ambiance is very good and one of the better places in Wilmington.
