So disappointed all around on our recent visit. Maybe it was an off night but there were too many issues for me to think this was just a one off event. The service was very poor even though they were not very busy, perhaps this should have been a red flag on a Saturday night. The food had potential if... More

We had a nice lunch at The Basics in Wilmington. For us the must to order was the classic shrimp and grits...very nice dish, full of flavour. We ordered fried oysters as well which was a nice introduction to cooked oysters given we normally would eat them raw. Worth a try for the less adventurous that would not eat it... More

The Co-Co Cola cake was a slice of heaven. The dark meat of the bird was one of the juciest things I've ever had.

My husband and I are regulars at The Basics. We adore their Sunday brunch menu! Aside from the most delicious regular items (spinach feta grill/the southern Benedict) they also ALWAYS have yummy specials on the blackboard. They have delicious side items; we love the biscuits and the potato cake. The food is fresh and served piping hot! They keep your... More

On my girls weekend to Wilmington, we stopped in for lunch. Although the restaurant was busy we received excellent service and friendly care. The salads are very nice with interesting combinations and the sandwiches and sides were delicious. We started with the fried oyster appetizer. Totally set the mood for the meal! Everyone was pleased, even a first timer☺️.

While other downtown restaurants were crowded, we got a seat immediately. They have a good kids menu, with an amazingly fancy fruit plate. The side dish choices are varied and delicious. We enjoyed the Mac and cheese and okra. I had the shrimp and grits, and I agree with the other reviewers, they are delicious! The food was a good... More

This is now the 4th or 5th time we have eaten at The Basics. Excellent service, excellent Southern food. They have a fixed price offer of 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts, with any bottle of wine on the list..........all for $65!! During Restaurant Week, the deal is even better. Whether a local or a visitor in Wilmington, you... More

The Basics is a top favorite for me downtown. What a cool two story location in the cotton exchange! They have a fantastic menu, with many different selections. The daily specials are always good as well. They have sunday breakfast too. If I have a client in town, I will usually take them here for lunch. The BBQ sandwich is... More

The food is far from basic. The feta spinach grill is the best! Shrimp and grits is good. The daily specials are truly special. Definitely worth a try if you have never been. Our NY relatives and Raleigh relatives eat there every time they are in town.
