Couldn't believe such an exceptional restaurant is in such a small town

We had a wonderful meal. We started with an unusual, but delicious tomato and mozzarella salad. The tomatoes were slices of huge ripe heirloom ones and the mozzarella was fried. The dressing drizzled on it was great. Next we had the mushroom ravioli. It was one of the best things we've ever... read more

On our way from Highlands to Asheville we stopped in Waynesville for lunch at the sweet onion. The place is very nice with a welcoming staff and an interesting menu. The sweet onion soup is amazing I almost needed scissors to cut the long strings of cheese and my salad was delicious with a Thai peanut dressing, but the best... More

Stayed in Maggie Valley for the month of August and ate in so many restaurants. The sweet onion was definitely our favorite. We ate there several times because the food and service were just excellent. In our opinion it was the best restaurant in the Waynesville area.

We had lunch here on our way through town. The onion soup was awesome as was the chicken spring rolls. Great atmosphere with spot on service. The wife loved the bloody mary.

Cute restaurant right off main street in Waynesville. Warm welcome by hostess. Short wait but worth it. Menu quite extensive. We had blueberry short ribs, blueberry fried chicken and shrimp & grits. Yummy! The potatoe side dish over the top. Everything was great. You could tell the food was fresh. Great lunch, great waitress and lunch with good friends-wonderful afternoon.... More

The Sweet Onion is where the locals go for upscale casual dining, conveniently just a block north of Main Street. There is plenty of on-street parking and a free public parking lot just across the street. Service is superb, the dining area is cozy and quiet, and reservations make it easier to schedule a dinner. But the food is the... More

The Sweet Onion is a lovely place for a very nice dinner. The menu is upscale with interesting combinations and ingredients. Our server was charming and very attentive and we completely enjoyed the evening. Portions are large and prices are reasonable. I can strongly recommend the Sweet Onion. Be sure to call for reservations.

This has got to be one of the best restaurants in Waynesville. Wait staff is prompt, courteous, neat, and helpful on all selections. Reservations are available but during the season make them a day early. This restaurant is also very popular with the locals so you know it's a good place to eat.

Great bar tender with creative cocktails. The main courses were overpriced for what they were ( my "special" of swordfish over risotto for $28 was pretty underwhelming), but the chocolate layer cake for about $8.50 was to die for! Absolutely moist and chocolatey, even without the ice cream on the side and the fine caramel dribbled over it. Definitely recommend... More

Everything is yummy. Service is excellent...ask for Jessie...she's wonderful. Favorites are the schnitzel and trout. Greens and scalloped potatoes are pure heaven. Make a reservation!
