Description: Welcome to The Swag! Great country inn of the Great Smoky Mountains...
Welcome to The Swag! Great country inn of the Great Smoky Mountains. Nestled among eighteen peaks over 6,000 feet this spectacular log and stone lodge is a treasure to be discovered by today's lovers of nature. The old split rail fence marking the boundary of Great Smoky Mountain National Park is a few yards from the Swag Lodge entrance, and well marked hiking trails abound both in the Park and throughout the two hundred fifty acre property of our award-winning Inn. Our own trails are complemented by the national park's vast network of hiking trails carefully mapped to scale and available for all guests and especially enjoyed by the wilderness novice. For over thirty years we have developed and enhanced our fourteen romantic guest rooms with wood-burning fire places, steam showers, balconies, patchwork quilts, and "Ritzy Rustic" amenities galore. Very special dining is a proud tradition at the Swag beginning with hors d'oeuvres and leading up to our chef's four-course dinner. Exceptional country breakfasts and delectable back-pack lunches add to the day's leisure nature walk or the more ambitious high country exploring. Expansive beams, 200 year-old hand-hewn logs and native Appalachian crafts authenticate our desire to capture the romance and integrity of living graciously while authentically close to nature and all its wonder. Our seasonal inn operates from mid-April through November. Located near Waynesville, thirty miles west of Asheville, North Carolina.

Exceptional Dining Experience

A few days earlier, we secured reservations for Sunday Brunch. We were 3 of 30 guests. It was remarkable in every aspect ... from the 'wait' and view of the Appalachian mountains and Maggie Valley, to the well-prepared brunch where every dish was unique and perfectly prepared, to the visiting story... read more

We were day trippers who enjoyed a fabulous picnic prepared at the inn on top of a mountain with a spectacular view. After a short hike we enjoyed wonderful food in a perfect setting. Blue skies and cool weather added to a very relaxing afternoon. If not for the treacherous ride up the mountain we'd go again often! Beware if... More

My family was on vacation in Maggie Valley, and a friend of ours had recommended prior to our trip, to make reservations at the Swag for Sunday Brunch, and I am SO glad we got that recommendation as the trip was so special! Guests not staying on the swag property, receive the 12:30pm Sunday brunch seating (guests on property have... More

Dear ATLWanderLust, Thank you for your kind feedback and for taking the time to share your experiences here with our future guests. We are delighted to know you enjoyed yourselves at a recent Sunday Brunch, and that you took full advantage of this mountaintop setting. I agree that a walk to our Gooseberry Knob can be delightful and uplifting. Many... More

Having stayed several times for weekends at The Swag, we thought we could come over for dinner or lunch. Not only did they refuse to open the gate for "non guests", but also rejected our request to book for lunch the day after by cutting the inter-phone communication with "I am sorry, those are the rules!" They definitely not used... More

Dear Marcela, Thank you for your honest feedback. We regret that we were unable to accommodate you this past weekend and we greatly appreciate your kind support of The Swag. While we were fully reserved through the busy labor day holiday, please accept my apology for our less than gracious handling of your inquiry. We do limit access to the... More

Don't forget to bring your own wine or spirits! Despite "Popcorn" Sutton's impact on the region's alcohol production, this is a dry county. Breakfast, lunch, tea, appetizers and dinner are generous and offer a wide variety of flavors for all diners.

Every spring we come to this area, and every year -- until now --- we thought about having dinner at The Swag but thought it might be too elite for our tastes, especially if we were just coming for dinner and not staying at the resort. This year we decided to "take the leap" and make a dinner reservation, and... More

We were fortunate enough to receive a gift certificate for 2 nights at this wonderful place. We enjoyed every minute we spent there. From the moment we walked into the Inn and were greeted by a lovely lady who made us feel that we were the most special guests she had that day to the gourmet lunch that we had... More

We enjoyed 2 nights in the terrace room in mid October. The leaves were not at their peak but the view from the porch was idyllic. The owners have truly thought of every detail for a perfect inn experience. Each course of food was very good. We enjoyed hiking the nature trail, Hemphill Bald and the Waterfall trail. We had... Forgive my review for being a bit lengthy, but upon our decision to try this place I wished there had been more extensive reviews on TripAdvisor. So, here goes: My husband and his best friend were celebrating turning 30 and the wives thought it would be a good excuse to finally try the Swag. We decided to go for dinner... More
