Description: Welcome to The Swag! This intimate hideaway is nestled among eighteen peaks...
Welcome to The Swag! This intimate hideaway is nestled among eighteen peaks over 6,000 feet and this extraordinary log and stone lodge is a treasure to be discovered by today's lovers of nature. The old split rail fence marking the boundary of Great Smoky Mountain National Park is a few yards from the Swag Lodge entrance, and well marked hiking trails abound both in the Park and throughout the two hundred fifty acre property of our award-winning Inn. Our own trails are complemented by the national park's vast network of hiking trails carefully mapped to scale and available for all guests and especially enjoyed by the wilderness novice. For over thirty years we have developed and enhanced our fourteen romantic guest rooms with wood-burning fire places, steam showers, balconies, patchwork quilts, and "Ritzy Rustic" amenities galore. Very special dining is a proud tradition at the Swag beginning with hors d'oeuvres at 6 p.m. each evening and leading up to our chef's four-course dinner at 7 p.m. Exceptional country breakfasts and delectable back-pack lunches add to the day's leisure nature walk or the more ambitious high country exploring. Join us for one of our gourmet picnics each Wednesday at noon on our Gooseberry Knob, or savor our Thursday evening barbeque cookout! Expansive beams, 200 year-old hand-hewn logs and native Appalachian crafts authenticate our desire to capture the romance and integrity of living graciously while authentically close to nature and all its wonder. Our seasonal inn operates from mid-April through November. Located near Waynesville, thirty miles west of Asheville, North Carolina.

The Swag's Warm Welcome was impeccably complimented by its delicious Brunch Menu, At a 5000 Ft. Elevation, the view is typically stunning, as well, yet a gentle rain only emphasized a cozy setting, beautiful buffet and delightful staff. When visiting Ashville, be sure to make a reservation & enjoy. Promise, they will exceed your expectations!

My husband and I thought we'd "hike to brunch". We parked at Cove Creek Gap and walked (approx. 6 miles) to the Swag. Reservations were for 12:30 (the seating time for non-guests). We arrived at 12:20 and were met by Mark who promptly confirmed our reservation, knew we weren't staying there and starting telling us all about the place. We... More

We have eaten here twice and will return when visiting the area again. It is a small place so reservations are required. The people staying here eat all their meals here. They have room for a few extra people for dinner and Sunday brunch. The food is fabulous and the service is excellent. The ambiance of the log cabin and... More

You wouldn't expect to find gourmet fare five miles up the main road at the top of the mountain, but here you will enjoy a mix of gourmet food and a quick turn on hearty country spreads that will keep you powered up all day (or night).

Tried to go for cocktails and to enjoy the view, maybe to also have dinner. We were told through a speaker at the electric gate, that unless we are staying there we cannot come in. We took our business elsewhere and will not return for cocktails, food, or to stay!! It is off our list. Need to hire some friendly... More

Dear Opinion Guru, The Swag, its owners, staff and guests are among the most friendly and pretension-free people I have had the pleasure of knowing. We value our guests' privacy and, as you have discovered, differ from a restaurant operation that is open to the public. We apologize that we could have alienated even one person, and for that reason... More

Wonderful and Beautiful Place! We were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary and they made it very special for us. Our room (The Rock Room) was perfect, very romantic. The food was delicious and the view of the valley was gorgeous. Everyone was so helpful and they made sure you had everything you needed. We highly recommend The Swag.

A few days earlier, we secured reservations for Sunday Brunch. We were 3 of 30 guests. It was remarkable in every aspect ... from the 'wait' and view of the Appalachian mountains and Maggie Valley, to the well-prepared brunch where every dish was unique and perfectly prepared, to the visiting story teller Donald Davis after Brunch ... the entire experience...
