We had heard mixed reviews from folks about this restaurant, so we had never visited (we live outside of Wilmington, NC). Met friends from Raleigh there for lunch. We all got different meals. No one could say a negative comment about the food, the staff, or the beautiful bar. Calimari was the best we have had; soup was better than... More

We have eaten here on the way to the beach several times. It is kind of odd to see this huge restaurant kind of in a place that appears to have a low population. It is dark inside, with lots of tables and booths. We usually have sandwiches, which are good, not great. Nice portions. The wine list is sparse.... More

The Mad Boar used to be a great place to eat. Their low country shrimp and grits and Murphy's Law pork tenderloin were my favorites. My last sample of those two plates, they were still great. However, their lunch menu left much to be desired. I was there with a group earlier this year for a business lunch and was... More

Great meal! Crab dip very good and the blackened chicken pasta was very good too. Staff was very friendly.

We were on a trip with an 8 hour drive - and just accidentally found this place when we got off the road to fill up. Gave it a try and glad we did. We both had their "blue plate specials" - shepherd's pie (very good) and baked chicken (quite tasty) and with the side dishes it was a lot... More

I was generous and gave the Mad Boar a 1 only because my wife & daughter's pasta dishes were okay to good according to them. I ordered the Jack Sirloin which was supposed to be a 9-oz sirloin but was actually more like 6-oz - it was tiny! I ordered my steak "medium" and it came out bloody rare. I... More

This is a delayed review as we visited in December 2013 while en route to Wilmington on a short business trip. Beautiful building and decor. Impressive menu. The service was substandard as was the food. The fish was "fresh frozen" and nothing special. Sweet potato was over cooked and the dish lacked basic seasoning. This was a serious disappointment as... Drinks were a bit pricey. Had a band playing good music that middle age people could appreciate. Enjoyed the singing. Everyone there was very nice.

I stopped for lunch on my way back to Raleigh. I've always liked the environment at the Mad Boar and felt comfortable once again. The booth seemed a little worn out as I sat with the table being almost to my arm pits. The server had a little bit of an attitude and was brusk at best. The Club Sandwich... More

who would think that this would go together. but with the smoky bacon dressing, this meal was awesome. the flavors were so good & the smell was awesome. We eat in the pub since it was mothers day and we were coming home from South Carolina & stopped on a whim. so glad we stopped. If you get to Wallace... More
