Big Sandwich and locally made jellies

After leaving the Mast General Store disappointed that the jellies and honey they sell are produced out of state, we stopped by this place to see if they sold local and to grab a sandwich for a picnic lunch on the parkway. To my delight, they had both things I was looking for. The jellies had cool... read more

Very disappointed in Hawksnest sandwich...the bread was soggy from the oil dressing. This sandwich should be served on French bread. I only ate a few bites, and tossed the sandwich in the garbage. This was my first and last visit to the deli.

Very tasty sandwiches, burgers, and treats. Don't forget to pick up a bottle of wine too. Previously known as The Ham Shoppe. They also will pack a picnic lunch if desired to take on your hike!

Stopped to buy food for a picnic with family visiting us from out of town. The choices of fresh bread, meat and cheeses were varied enough to please our entire group. Several of us also bought homemade baked goods such as magic bars, brownies, cookies and lemon bars. All of the food was delicious and very generous servings, which made the prices... More

This is not a full service restaurant. They don't have any tables or bathroom. The bakery counter doesn't have the big selection of homemade cakes and pies like it used to. There are hand-written negative signs all over the place saying, "NO bathroom", "Don't eat at the counter", etc. I've never been in a place with so many signs admonishing... More

Mountain Trout and other Southern specialties. Grits, locally grown veggies and organic items make it a unique place for a special meal. The old farmhouse is a great venue and the wine tasting makes for a nice afternoon on the porch.

IF you are looking for a fresh made sandwich, piled high with your favorite fixins, look here. They are at the corner of 105 at the light

Whenever I am in Boone, I make 1861 part of my trip - it is my favorite sandwich shop in the area. I normally stop to grab a sandwich to toss in my backpack before heading to the parkway or Hebron for a hike. I've never been disappointed. I normally build my own sandwich, but they have lots to choose... More

I have eaten here for years until it was sold to another owner. The food is alright (not as good as before though) but the atmosphere and customer service have dropped soooo much. The woman who took my order was incredibly rude. I've worked in retail and customer service and would never treat even rude people the way she treated... More

The rudest lady works at the counter here. There are so many nice local places to eat in this area. It's a shame they are the only place on a busy corner and get any business at all. The sandwich was good, but crazy overpriced. We picked up food and were eating it the winery down the road. A couple... More
