Description: Found high up on the Blue Ridge of the Appalachian Mountains, "The Tropical Grill" is here to give you an unexpected dining experience. As you exit off the Blue Ridge Parkway at Spruce Pine, NC, go to "Upper Street" in downtown Spruce Pine, across from the Wells Fargo Bank. Tropical Dishes from around the world... Not found anywhere in the mountains and in some cases nowhere else in the Continental United States, unique and original. Dishes from Central America, Colombia, Cuba, the Caribbean, Asia and of course all your favorite Country Style American Home Cookin'. Lunch and dinner includes a full deli and grill with our Philly cheese steak, ruebens, burgers, paninis, Cuban sandwiches and our famous "Riveria". Tropical selections for lunch and dinner include: Fish Tacos, a complete vegetarian and gluten free selection, our famous Tropi-chop platter, Pollo ala Plancha, Steak Argentina and our popular Quesadillas. We have a full line of salads, including our Caribbean salad, our Asian salad and our Greek Salad. Our Quatro Leche dessert cake is to die for! Dine in or take out. Catering is our specialty. PURCHASE OUR GUATEMALAN IMPORT PRODUCTS TO HELP SEND PROCEEDS TO THE MISSIONS IN GUATEMALA. By purchasing our Import products, you are helping the Guatemalan people in many ways. First you help put monies into the Mayan economy. This provides economic opportunities for entire villages that otherwise have very little hope. Secondly, proceeds from your purchase go back to the missions in Guatemala that provide a much needed medical service and supply. But most important, understand it is our primary task to reach each Guatemalan with the "Good News" of the Gospel of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

A first time visit. Stopped by the restaurant on our way home from a fall trip on the Virginia Creeper Trail near Damascus, VA. Internet review ratings initially attracted us to this small but colorful restaurant. The hostess [owner?] was very friendly and helpful and the food was wonderful. A lot of unique choices on the menu. Worth going out... More

This is a great restaurant with unusual dishes. I had the mahi mahi tacos which were delicious and my husband had the Cuban tilapia dinner which he thought the flavors were unique. The restaurant is small but very clean and nicely decorated. Highly recommend this restaurant for great flavors.

My husband enjoyed the food, I on the other hand did not. My fair was overly greasy & salty. The location is intimate which is nice unless you have a loud table next to you. The outdoor seating is a joke. Right next to the bathrooms & the overhang is too small to keep you dry when it rains.

We here at the Tropical Grill are sorry that you did not enjoy dining here. However, it would have been common courtesy to tell us you didn't like what you ordered. We would have done everything we could to make you happy, offering you anything else in exchange or not charging you. But you said nothing to anyone. Like your... More

We were heading to Spruce Pine and wanted to have lunch before going home. I saw the reviews and decided to try it. Since we are not familiar with Cuban food, the owner explained different items and was very helpful. We ordered the Riviera sandwich and the Cuban soup and sandwich, everything was great. Would drive an hour and a... More

We have just moved to the area and used this site to find a top rated place to take my husband for his birthday. What a blessing this place was on his birthday. The food and service was outstanding. You definitely don't walk away hungry, the portions are very decent. We asked what the waitress would recommend, we went with... More

Out of no where a fantastic little place to eat. So good! I wanted to substitute something and was advised against it. It was the best decision.

Be prepared to enjoy some of the best food on earth! My husband and I were blown away at how great this food was. We have traveled all over the Caribbean and love this type of food so this was a great find for us! It's worth the drive to Spruce Pine from Asheville. Be aware they are not open... More

The food is absolutely wonderful. It takes a while which makes it hard to grab a quick lunch for the working person.

First, I must say that we truly enjoyed our dining experience here and conversations with one of the owners, Claudia. She's fantastic! Very enjoyable meal in their outside dining area. The menu has something for everyone. I started off with Cubano coffee w/ steamed milk (Cafe con Leche) - very nice. I ordered Coconut Shrimp Platter and my husband had... More

Food was fantastic! Not something that I would expect in this part of the country. The menu has something for all tastes, American, South American, Cuban! Very good, authentic! Love to go to Mom & pop places vs. Chains! Will be back!!!
