Excellent Brunch in the High Country

Shared brunch with my family this morning at Knife and Fork---what a pleasant surprise! Tucked into the most unlikely corner of the world, this is a gem. The menu was inventive and inviting. Each of us had something lovely and beautiful, and each person's meal was superb. Our server, Sarah, was... read more

After a few days in Asheville, a friend suggested that we drive into the country to visit one of his favorite restaurants in the small town of Spruce Pine, less than an hour out of town. What a wonderful surprise to find Knife and Fork (that had just expanded its days of operation, so that it was open most nights... More

Had dinner on our last night in the mountains. Field to table excellence. I had the pasta with field greens and my husband had flat iron steak. Homemade butter and artisan bread. Good and reasonably price wine and beer selection. Did t have dessert so no comment on that. Nice lines and fresh flowers in lovely small pottery pillows. A... More

Foodies rejoice. This is top notch creative cooking pretty much in the middle of nowhere. I had a delicious small helping of something in which I recognized no ingredients except shitake mushrooms. It was locally gathered greens and herbs in a light broth so yummy I asked for extra bread to soak it up. The owner, who was also waiting... More

Every time we travel to Western NC we are sure to eat at the Knife & Fork as often as possible and last week was no exception. I wish 6 stars was an option because this place deserves it! We had lunch as usual - delicious salad to start and grilled trout sandwiches with potato wedges and homemade ketchup. This... More

This place rocks. Food is creative. Attention to detail extraordinary. Wine selection excellent and reasonably priced. Customer comes first always with these guys. Try their bar upstairs, Spoon, for a pre-dinner cocktail. Cool hip, but everyone fits in.

Recommended by a local. It's a drive through the mountains to this small town. We had the the appetizer with various pate's - very local, very good and provided more than a sample for our party of five. We enjoyed the bolognese -excellent; trout. -wonderful; pork chop- very good; steak - well prepared. The wine list is fine, service friendly... More

Ok, so this is my fourth trip to this restaurant. My wife and I have had one good meal, and we keep coming back hoping for another, but I don't think we will be back again. Service, there was one poor waiter who was so busy that he couldn't explain the menu or take an order correctly. The food -... More

Came here for dinner to celebrate our daughter's birthday. She had eaten here before and enjoyed it. We discovered this restaurant is usually closed in winter, but was open this weekend for a special "comfort food" event. Menu was a little confusing -- hard to really tell small plates from entrees. We chose three different items, but the only thing... More
