Nice menu, people and atmosphere

Two foursomes of guys dropped in on a Saturday night, and they seated us together PDQ. Our waitress seemed to really enjoy her work, and us. Menu was innovative and well varied. I chose the pork because I can't eat shrimp or crab; my allergy really limited me from the choices I would have... read more

This adorable restaurant, which is located in an old lovely cottage, is by far the most innovated dining in Southport. Fresh ingredients, wonderful menu, delicious sauces, and a nice wine list. Small intimate rooms. Best to make a reservation. Last time I was there I had the veal chop, which was perfectly seared, tender and juicy. Probably the best veal... More

We made spur of the moment reservations on Mardi Gras weekend. There was a special menu for the occasion in addition to their regular menu was available. The hostess, bar tender and waitress were all the same person which initially gave us some reservation. Drinks, wine and food all arrived in a timely and correct fashion. Her advice on ordering... Recently had dinner at Live Oak and the meal and appetizers were at best so, so. All 4 in our party agreed that the dinner wasn't nearly as good as previous experiences. Service was very good, just disappointed in the food. Sorry to say we won't be going back because it is a nice little place but not worth money... More

Judging by the food eaten around us, this restaurant is worth the trip. That being said, I did not enjoy my meal at all. Shrimp and grits are one of my favorites but as I do not enjoy overly spiced food, I asked about the level of spice. I was told it was mild. The kitchen did not have grits... More

Recently ate at the Live Oak Cafe. The restaurant is very quaint but the decor could use a little updating. We were in a room with other tables but they were empty, feel if it was full it would be noisy. We all had wonderful meals, (pistachio encrusted mahi, Mediterranean seafood (sea bass on this occasion), scallops and crab, trout).... More

This restaurant looks like nothing from the outside. It's a small old house with a front porch. Once inside, there are a couple small rooms, each holding just a few tables. Our server was very good, and the four of us were very happy with our food. We were there to help celebrate an anniversary, and the restaurant did not... More

Good variety of food from land to sea. Crab salad in mushrooms was really good. More upscale offerings! Service friendly and efficient.

My wife and I made a much anticipated visit to Live Oak for our last dinner night out in Southport. We had first enjoyed this spot a little over a year ago. I enjoyed my "Buffaloaf" and she enjoyed her pork entree that was new to the menu. Service was good though we did have to ask for bread which... More

A local shop owner recommended Live Oak to us, it was a good call. We had to wait about 20 mins for a table, wish we had made reservations, but the wait was worth it. We had a very nice appetizer of Gorgonzola risotto stuffed Portobello mushroom, topped with sautéed shrimp followed by us splitting the Grilled Jumbo Sea Scallops... More
