Southern Charm for Lunch

I had heard great things about The Purple Onion Cafe and was not disappointed on our first visit! The menu offers a large selection of sandwiches, bugers and salads for lunch. (They also we've breakfast.) There is something here for everyone. Most sandwiches offer a choice of breads. I was... read more

Have dined twice at The Purple Onion and have yet to be blown away like other reviewers. Both times, my sandwiches were not as I had ordered them (not complicated, just asked for onions to be left off). Although the restaurant was not full, service was a little slow. On both visits, we had to flag down the server to... More

Avery busy restaurant that can be a wee bit loud and clanky. You don't want to discuss high stakes business or personal issues as the tables are very close to each other. The menu is varied and all tastes should be covered. Food is served in large portions and the food is tasty and tackles any sized appetite. Baked goods... More

Both my wife and I had the Chicken Quesadilla and I had the Black Beans and Corn as a side and my wife had their homemade potato chips. The food here, no matter what you get is worth every penny you spend and the cost is not that bad. We paid $7.95 per meal and we drink water as our... More

This cafe came up on Google looking for an eatery in Shallotte.it's kind of obscure but we backtracked and went in. We were greeted by staff and immediately liked the vibe. The huge dessert case right in front didn't hurt :) My husband has the huge custom cooked cheeseburger, couldn't quite finish. I had fried green Tomato BLT! Yowser, that... More

This was our first stop before going to Ocean Isle. We stopped in for lunch, the place was busy, the service was good and the food was outstanding! We all ordered something different and everyone was pleased.

This place has become our annual farewell breakfast when we depart Sunset Beach on vacation each year. We love it for its old fashioned breakfast. Staff is always friendly and smiling. My daughters love the bakery and the Blueberry Biscuits are to die for - some for breakfast and some for the road! Give it a try!

We were looking for a healthy lunch option, and The Purple Onion more than fit our wishes! Fresh, homemade bread/rolls, delicious cranberry/walnut salad, crab cakes, and patty melt. Great, friendly service!

I thoroughly enjoyed the Southern Belle Burger - fried green tomatoes and that good onion jam. The jam is crazy good. The juice and grease running down my arm - a messy burger is a good burger! My husband had the Western Burger. He liked it, but it was super messy, it became more like a knife and fork burger.... More
