THE STORY BEHIND 1918
The Great War was drawing to a close when Friedrich Carl Gottleib Wallent put the finishing touches to his fine home in Murray Street, by chiseling the date in the foundation stone by the front door. His son Morris later became the mayor of Tanunda and took over the family home. More than 70 years later in 1992, an enterprising group of locals turned the proud Wallent home into the Barossa's first bistro grill - a friendly and generous place where Barossa winemakers could entertain their guests and visitors could relax after a hard day's wine tasting.

In 1998 Tanya and Sid King visited 1918 as guests 17 years later, in 2015 the opportunity arose for The King Family to be the new custodians of this fine home of Barossa Hospitality.

They are passionate about serving fresh, seasonally-inspired cuisine, accompanied by carefully selected wines from the Barossa's best and iconic Australian and International wineries - but guests are also welcome to bring their own special bottle. What you'll also find is a youthful passion and buzz, modern Australian tastes and flavours that are borrowed from Asia and the Middle East, and a genuine willingness to please.

We enjoyed a very pleasant evening on the front porch of 1918. Our meals were lovely (we both chose the steak), and the service was excellent. The passionfruit brulee for dessert was delicious.

Looked forward to dining here with friends. Food was excellent, although mains did take awhile to arrive. Unfortunately for an establishment like this, service was not. Young staff are great to have & totally understand the wage factor owing a restaurant myself. This review is just to let management know, please train their staff not to remove plates off the... We had a lovely dinner at 1918 on a Saturday night. We sat inside with a view of the rest of the restaurant and a lovely fireplace. The meal from the bread with parmesan oil to the dessert and cheese plate was exceptional! The wine selection was great. The service was attentive but not intrusive. They catered well to Gluten... This was a pleasant place to dine and with corkage it was nice to be able to bring one of the great wines we tasted while touring the cellar doors of the Barossa Valley. Dinner was nice and the service was excellent.

We didn't have table reservation and it seemed to be silent night so we get easily table. We sit outside on terrace which was very nice. Because we had little hurry we took just one main course. But they were so good! I took the fish of the day and my husband took duck. We were both very happy! Service... More

We visited recently with our toddler. The wait staff were nice and accommodating. The food was good but nothing really stood out for us.
