Just plain good food

another of Tanunda's highlights. Good menu offerings and good support for local wines an enjoyable evening with the warmth of an open fire

The visit to 1918 Bistro coincided with an amazing sunny day in middle of winter and we were sat in the garden. The bistro is a well renovated Barossa cottage that is very warm and cosy. The menu is very good, innovative in places and demonstrates some excellent local Barossa produce. We had some excellent caramel Asian pork and and... More

I ate with three other family members. We started with a couple of very nice entree's. But then we received our main meals. We ordered two Sirloin Steaks, one Scotch Steak and one Lamb Rack. We all felt like it was the best we have ever tasted. I wish we could go back time and time again. We finished with... More

This was the pick (excuse the pun) of Tanunda's restaurants. The reputation and street view drew us in. Welcomed by a cosy fire, warm service and a tantalising menu. The squid entree was tasty but the standout dish was the T Bone steak. The best I have ever had, anywhere - and I've had a few. Perfectly cooked with an ideal... More

We booked 1918 to celebrate our daughter's graduation in Vet Science from Roseworthy College. The food was superb. We shared the charcuterie platter between three of us and loved the pickles and chutneys that accompanied the generous portions of meat and pates. We all had different main courses (smoked salmon pasta, gnocchi and chicken breast) and enjoyed them all. Perhaps... More

Lovely setting, summer evening seated on the balcony, lawns lovely with tables and umbrellas set up, good menu, good wine list, quite a busy place, service was great, although just a tad slow on picking up your water was out and some of those little things, but it was busy, however being outside took the feeling of not being crammed... Alicia, our waitress, was extremely friendly. The food was delicious and the atmosphere warm. I chose the fish of the day which had a little too much salt but I generally don't have salt in my diet so this made it stand out. I loved the entrée of heirloom carrots and haloumi. Overall, the staff are exceptional.

Visually from the outside you look like your in for a treat of lovely decor and country hospitality. Once inside it all changes. Staff were chaotic with everyone on their own missions. Menu was great in sounding but unless you were an elf you would be left hungry as portion sizing is very small. Like elsewhere around it all about... More
