THE STORY BEHIND 1918 The Great War was drawing to a close when Friedrich Carl Gottleib Wallent put the finishing touches to his fine home in Murray Street, by chiseling the date in the foundation stone by the front door. His son Morris later became the mayor of Tanunda and took over the family home. More than 70 years later in 1992, an enterprising group of locals turned the proud Wallent home into the Barossa's first bistro grill - a friendly and generous place where Barossa winemakers could entertain their guests and visitors could relax after a hard day's wine tasting. In 1998 Tanya and Sid King visited 1918 as guests 17 years later, in 2015 the opportunity arose for The King Family to be the new custodians of this fine home of Barossa Hospitality. They are passionate about serving fresh, seasonally-inspired cuisine, accompanied by carefully selected wines from the Barossa's best and iconic Australian and International wineries - but guests are also welcome to bring their own special bottle. What you'll also find is a youthful passion and buzz, modern Australian tastes and flavours that are borrowed from Asia and the Middle East, and a genuine willingness to please.

Had a lovely dinner with friends. Nice atmosphere and warm and cozy. Wine prices were a little in the dear side

Great atmosphere with fireplace in the middle, very nice, attentive staff. Great wine selection. Fantastic food, worth the top end price.

This bistro over delivered on our expectations. Entrees of kingfish, caramelised pork & betel leaves and scallops with black pudding were all excellent. Mains of beef cheek and rolled pork belly again excellent. Deserts were hard to chose from but our boys chose the chocolate fondant. The 15 minute wait was worth it. All dishes were well cooked and presented... More

This Resturant is busy because the food served is fresh and delicious. I would recommend booking as we walked in on a Monday night and were lucky to get the last table. A great meal and staff were pleasant.

The setting and history of 1918 Bistro were what attracted us to having a meal there on a recent trip to the Barossa and we weren't disappointed. In fact the food and service are equal to any of the best that the big cities offer. Charming old world decor radiates a gracious atmosphere and the menu covers classics as well... More

Dinner at this very cosy & welcoming restaurant was a pleasant experience. It has a number of dining rooms & our one with the fireplace made all the difference on a very chilly June night! Our mains of the tenderloin steak & angelhair pasta with chicken were yummy but not exceptional. The share plate of desserts though was very delicious... More

This was a cute property set back of the main street. We were visiting on a cold June evening and it was great to be sitting by a welcoming fire. The service was very good and the food was excellent. It isn't cheap but compared to some capital city restaurants it was reasonable. The lamb was cooked to perfection and... More

Enjoyed a fantastic meal with my wife on a nice cool evening. Coconut prawns and soup to start followed by duck rack of lamb. We don't often do dessert but just had to try the taste plate of four different desserts. Great food, great service, a bit pricey but the only real issue was the "corkage" of $15 when the... More

Tonight we enjoyed the lamb rack and the scotch fillet. The meal was prepared perfectly. For desert, we had the doughnuts and treacle slice - of which both were amazing. We really enjoyed our meal and the service was friendly and professional. I highly recommend this venue should you want a fantastic meal while in the Barossa.
