We serve comfort food that celebrates our forefathers’s Mexican roots and the culinary traditions of the local neighborhood. "On the plate, “Mexican-Southern” translates to dishes such as chicharrones and waffles, and shrimp and masa “grits” with Chihuahua cheese. You can expect to see Southern staples such as okra and collard greens done in new ways, too. An emphasis on local sourcing means that even the chiles rellenos on the traditional side of the menu may not always be made with the standard poblanos." Greg Cox, N&O

Good food, great ambiance

We ventured to downtown Raleigh looking for something different and I would say we found it. This is a nice restaurant with avg. prices, good mexican food, and good service (if they are not too busy). We have been there twice with family, our first visit was very good service wise, the second one... read more

A group of 11 celebrated my wife's birthday on 5/16/15. In short, EVERYONE enjoyed the food. The tostones with bacon were a smash hit, the guacamole was repeatedly ordered. As far as the entrees, the skirt steak, shrimp enchiladas and the chicarones and waffles were delicious. But what really made or experience was Kayla, our waitress. She was knowledgeable, fun,... Feeling in the mood for something spicy and different, we decided to make a date night on Saturday and venture into Downtown Raleigh for some Mexican cuisine. Now we read prior Yelpers and, as I first stated, they all recommend a reservation as this place is busy. So, having not gone to Raleigh, we figured we'd put our names down... More

Good food, different than the mainstream mass Mexican restaurants. Food was fresh and tasty. Some was a bit more spiced than preferred, but was still good. The ceviche and guacamole were my favorites.

The chiccarones and waffles had to be one of the best things I've tasted in a while. The other dishes were ok. Went with my niece and nephew-nephew is allergic to all dairy/eggs, and they were super helpful with recommendations and making sure the food was not cross contaminated. Great spot.

I love this place, the guacamole is awesome, the service is amazing. We go here at least once a month and it is never disappointing. The floutas are also the bomb, along with the corn and just about everything else they have on the menu

Great atmosphere. Great service, and the food is fantastic. Plantain steak sandwich was incredible. The churros with chocolate dipping sauce from videri (next door) are a must try.

I was in North Carolina on business last year and several people I met there said I MUST try Jose and Sons. I am SO glad I did. I apologize it has taken me so long to write this review but I will NEVER forget the experience I had from the moment I walked in the door to the time... More

Our group was doing a guided Raleigh restaurant tour and this was our first stop. We had the Kale Mac & Cheese and the Barbacoa. They were both amazing. I also had a Michelada to drink that was fantastic. I will definitely go back the next time I'm in Raleigh.
