Description: We serve comfort food that celebrates our forefathers’s Mexican roots and the culinary traditions of the local neighborhood. "On the plate, “Mexican-Southern” translates to dishes such as chicharrones and waffles, and shrimp and masa “grits” with Chihuahua cheese. You can expect to see Southern staples such as okra and collard greens done in new ways, too. An emphasis on local sourcing means that even the chiles rellenos on the traditional side of the menu may not always be made with the standard poblanos." Greg Cox, N&O

Had dinner last night at Jose and Sons. What a delight. Every dish was presented perfectly. We ordered 4 different entrees and everyone at the table thought theirs was best. The guacamole is the best I've had in Raleigh. Will definitely be back!

Unfortunately we had poor service and had a drink and appetizer and left. It took too long for the waitress to come check on us. After taking a drink order it took too long to bring me my beer and report back that she really didn't understand the second drink order, which was a specialty drink in the menu. We... More

I loved this place. The food was creative and delicious. I had the plantain sandwich. Superb! They call it Mexican restaurant but it is hard to categorize. Everyone at our table loved what they got. The habanero, pineapple guacamole was awesome too. It is a little off the beaten path, still downtown. The service was very nice. Very attentive.

My wife and I had dinner here last night and it was amazing. Cool atmosphere, great food and great service. We ate on the early side so it wasn't too busy there. I had the Chicharron & waffles, which was just incredible. A corn waffle completely covered with crispy pork belly cracklins over an agave-sriracha sauce. Oh yeah, and there... More

As a group of five, we started with the pimiento tostados, which were awesome. There were five on the plate so we each got to try one. I had heard race reviews of the fish tacos, but with so many other awesome options, I think they were the least exciting. The chile relleno was great, and I love that it... More

We went with a group of 5 women. We decided to get a bunch of apps and share. Each one was excellent. Out favorite by far was the ceviche!! The crispy little chips served with it were perfect for scooping up the perfectly marinated fish, tomatoes and avocado. I have had this again as my entree it was so good.... More

Went here on a recommendation from friends. The location is in one of the hot spot areas of downtown Raleigh. Parking on the weekends can be difficult especially if there is a concert. Fun, eclectic decor with a cool circular bar in the middle of the restaurant. All the cocktails were excellent. We ordered chips/salsa/guacamole for an appetizer which was... More

Ok so after talking about this place with my wife for weeks, we finally decided to try it out, took our daughter & friend for a Sunday brunch. The restaurant is well put together, the ambiance was amazing. The music should have been more on the Latin side, since it is a Mexican eatery, but I digress. So we get... More

We went as a group of 5. Was seated right away and greeted by an excellent waitress within a minute. The restaurant is very trendy with an upscale Gastro Mexican menu and eclectic decor. I would highly recommend Jose and Sons to anyone! We had a great time! I had the pimento and bacon tostones. They were an amazing appetizer!... More

What a surprise to find Mexican and Southern on the same plate in the old freight depot. Collard wrapped Tamales were fantastic and unlike banana leaves and corn husk you get to eat the wrap. Enjoyed appetizers and conversation without being rushed to order entrees. The portions were generous.
