We serve comfort food that celebrates our forefathers’s Mexican roots and the culinary traditions of the local neighborhood. "On the plate, “Mexican-Southern” translates to dishes such as chicharrones and waffles, and shrimp and masa “grits” with Chihuahua cheese. You can expect to see Southern staples such as okra and collard greens done in new ways, too. An emphasis on local sourcing means that even the chiles rellenos on the traditional side of the menu may not always be made with the standard poblanos." Greg Cox, N&O

Authentic Mexican with Southern Twist

Since visiting Mexico on business and having the privilege of enjoying different types of Mexican cuisine in a variety of different settings Mexican cooking in the USA has with few exceptions left me flat. In fact I just don't bother with Mexican restaurants. I stumbled onto Jose and son's due to a... read more

Fresh & local. Family owned. Original. Authentic. Creative. Superlatives that all apply in mounds to Jose & Sons, and all contribute to the overall adjective of choice - WONDERFUL. The food and drinks are simply outstanding in taste and presentation and deserve the highest of recommendations. I could heap praises upon praises but I will single out the Chicharron and... More

I liked everything but the ceviche. mine was not edible. The rest of the meal was good but not enough for me to want to go back. I did like the drinks though, so may go for happy hour and the appetizers!

I was skeptical...great Mexican in NC? Yes...it's not only great, but has a healthy twist on old favorites. My chili rellenos were stuffed with butternut squash and zuchinni and only lightly fried. The salsa was divine (I could have eaten it like it was soup). The margaritas were good (a little small, but good sweet/sour tasted hand crafted). In the... More

I took my girlfriend and her family to Jose and Sons after her recent graduation from PA school. I made a reservation a week in advance. I did this because one of the members of our party is confined to a wheelchair and I wanted to make sure we had a table that would suit his needs. Our table was... More

We had a fun time. Awesome atmosphere: super cool/cute inside and great location. Loved the shrimp and grits and sweet tea... Good southern food!

I'll probably try this again. Wasn't too happy with the wellness of my lamb chop but the service was very nice

A group of six decided to try Jose & Sons on a Friday night and made a reservation. We were blown away by the experience and food! The southern spin on home style Mexican food is phenomenal. Our lovely waitress (I wish I could recall her name as she was superb) was right on with her recommendations. The skirt steak... More

I had the fish tacos and they were good. The desert was so good I recommend the flan. It is a really fun atmosphere I recommend going. We went twice on the same business trip. I gave it four stars because the waffle thing I got made me sick.
