Description: We serve comfort food that celebrates our forefathers’s Mexican roots and the culinary traditions of the local neighborhood. "On the plate, “Mexican-Southern” translates to dishes such as chicharrones and waffles, and shrimp and masa “grits” with Chihuahua cheese. You can expect to see Southern staples such as okra and collard greens done in new ways, too. An emphasis on local sourcing means that even the chiles rellenos on the traditional side of the menu may not always be made with the standard poblanos." Greg Cox, N&O

We went as a group of 5. Was seated right away and greeted by an excellent waitress within a minute. The restaurant is very trendy with an upscale Gastro Mexican menu and eclectic decor. I would highly recommend Jose and Sons to anyone! We had a great time! I had the pimento and bacon tostones. They were an amazing appetizer!... More

What a surprise to find Mexican and Southern on the same plate in the old freight depot. Collard wrapped Tamales were fantastic and unlike banana leaves and corn husk you get to eat the wrap. Enjoyed appetizers and conversation without being rushed to order entrees. The portions were generous.

I want to start by saying the food was very good - and has been in the past when I diner at Jose and Sons. I have had the enchilada del mar, brisket, and various apps. All good. The service on this particular night was poor. Our waitress presented us with a special that sounded outstanding... Oyster tacos! The problem... More

I had the Chicharron and Waffles, which is pork belly “cracklins,” on slightly sweet corn masa waffles seated in a bit of agave-sriracha sauce. Delicious and filling! The beer choices are good and unique (an there is an incredible beer store next door with a dozen seats and a few unique beers on tap). At the restaurant, the tap beers... More

Love Southern food? Love Mexican food? Try them in this fusion combo! I came here and am crazy satisfied with the fun flavor profiles and exciting new tastes. Definitely don't expect authenticity in either realm, but keep an open mind about the mixing and melding of these food types. A note: if you're a meat eater and want to have... More

My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner dining experience at Jose and Sons. I would recommend making reservations if the plans are to dine there on the weekend; we were immediately seated to our reserved table. Any of their mojitos are tasty. Must get the smashed plaintain appetizer w/ the pimento cheese and bacon sprinkled on top....YUM! My friends... More

Cool atmosphere- a cardboard bull hangs over the unused fireplace, old school bike on the wall with lights, steel high beams with large bolts supporting a vaulted ceiling highlight the history of an old train depot, large wooden doors on each side of the window and an airy space. We ordered an appetizer, soup and beers. Disappointed with the goat... More

First and last time to this restaurant. Entered Jose and Sons expecting a fine Mexican experience. I got over cooked fish tacos and my wife got an over cooked shrimp dish. We figured this was the style because the background music was "Sugar Sugar" by The Archies---.hardly Mexican. The draft beer was limited and what was Mexican was the standard... More

the food was good and well presented howeve the pace of service was on the slow side, so, don't be in a hurry, just relax and enjoy the food & decor.

The restaurant is newish, and has a good atmosphere. I went with a group of 17 and they were very accommodating of our size (separate checks, pulled tables together, good service). The food itself was average Mexican fare and the pricing was a little high but overall a fun spot.
