We serve comfort food that celebrates our forefathers’s Mexican roots and the culinary traditions of the local neighborhood. "On the plate, “Mexican-Southern” translates to dishes such as chicharrones and waffles, and shrimp and masa “grits” with Chihuahua cheese. You can expect to see Southern staples such as okra and collard greens done in new ways, too. An emphasis on local sourcing means that even the chiles rellenos on the traditional side of the menu may not always be made with the standard poblanos." Greg Cox, N&O

Locavore Mexican

The menu is much more interesting than your standard Mexican restaurant. Seasonal, local produce features prominently. The venue is lively and bustling. It would be a good place for a large group. Nice big bar with seasonal cocktails.

The tostones and pimento was great. The toston sandwich was delicious but a little messy. I didn't want alcohol and the alternatives seemed a little short of the mark.

I wasn't so keen on the southern part of their food. Our pimento cheese plantains were so-so. Didn't see much else 'southern' on the menu. But our mexican entrees (Barbacoa, seafood enchiladas) were on point. Service was good too. Great ambience, hip location.

Really cute venue - in an old train station. Very good food. I had the shrimp and grits and it was heavenly. The chips, salsa and guacamole were really good also.

I love this place! It's right downtown, in a brick building. In a place where parking is hard to find, there is free parking directly in front of the restaurant. I love that you have the option of eating inside or out. We sat outside and were left to enjoy a leisurely Saturday lunch. The decor is wonderful - very... More

So do you love interesting food? Do you love tasty food? Go to Jose & Sons in Raleigh. The best Chili Relleno I have ever had and the other dishes served were also outstanding. We will go back ever time we visit Raleigh!

An absolute treat if you have the opportunity to go. Appetizers were great, entrees even better. Waffle and pork cheek was out of this world and "The Springsteen" margarita wasn't too bad either. Service was above average and while the food may be a bit above mid range it's well worth the price. The ambiance is very eccentric - I... More

Jose and Sons is the best "new" restaurant I've visited in Raleigh in some time. My second trip yesterday did not disappoint, and the friend I'd invited really enjoyed it. Don't miss the appetizer made with fried plantain rounds, pimento cheese, and bacon - wonderful! Our entrée was skirt steak, served with a spicy sauce on the side and an... More

You know how Tex-Mex is the Texans' interpretation of Mexican food? Well, I'd call the food at Jose & Sons "New-So-Mex" because it's the result of blending Mexican ingredients with traditional Southern ingredients, and putting a New twist on it. Imagine enchiladas wrapped in collards. Poblano peppers with sweet potatoes and a braised pork chop. Or pimento cheese tostadas. You... More
