It was nice to find this little bit of NYC style chic in downtown Raleigh, NC. The mac & cheese is easily the best I've had anywhere. The waitstaff were all to a person, courteous, attentive and professional. It was a bit on the noisy side. It was a friday evening a the place was in full swing. A very... More

My daughter brought me here for my birthday dinner and apparently we lucked out. No line (which I hear seldom happens). It was crowded and I didn't like having the menu on the wall but the food was excellent and the portions generous.

Poole's Diner is one of the 4 restaurants operated by a James Beard Award-winning chef and has excellent food, great variety and good value. Highly recommended for Raleigh. It is more 'fun' atmosphere than quiet or romantic, but is definitely worth the trip.

Poole's has been on my list for a while, finally got there and I was completely delighted. I have been following Ashley Christensen's chef career and she is very deserving of her James Beard award. The restaurant is a renovated diner, very cute. The staff handles everything with such great organization. While they don't take reservations, if you get there... More

Hate the "no reservations" policy but it was worth the wait. Although the atmosphere was casual, the food was very upscale and delicious. Well worth the price.

The food is wonderful and presented well in this noisy retro diner. We started at the bar with the seafood appetizer (lovely crab, lobster and octopus) and a pitcheor of light and refreshing peach sangria (which alas, they ran out of). When we finally got our table (we waited 90 minutes!) we ordered every side dish from Kale to Mac... More

Poole's Diner is evidence of Chef Ashley Christensen's award as "Best Chef: Southeast" by the James Beard Foundation. Because there is ALWAYS a line ( no reservations), we arrived when doors opened at 5:00 for bar service along with a dozen others. Dinner starts at 5:30 and you can eat at the bar. We ordered all seasonal specials from the... More

We did our research and only had one night in Raleigh so we didn't want to waste it at a corporate restaurant that lacked personality or specialty food. This was definitely a local GEM! highly recommend it. Our favorites; THE PATE!!, soft shell crab, the green salad with Parmesan and red wine vinaigrette, the mac and cheese and the roasted... More

Seems to be the place to go to dinner for the younger set. It was great food. I had soft shell crab for the first time ever and found it delicious served on a bed of locally grown garden veggies. My wife had the Mac&cheese. The mac & Cheese was "the best I have ever eaten." The place is a... More
