We arrived at 5pm ordered drinks which were excellent and then promptly seated in a booth at 5:30. The menu was very eclectic and wonderful, but be aware you need to read a chalkboard that may be across the room, so you may have to get up and walk across and stand near other diners to really get a good... Inventive and excellent food, but you can hardly hear yourself think in this crowded, downtown diner/restaurant. No reservations, so call ahead to get the feel of the wait time.

Had an outstanding second dinner at Poole's Friday night. Everything was perfect from the greeting when we walked through the door to the table and wait staff and of course the food. Five stars all the way around. Highly recommended and we will return again very soon.

The food, presentation of the meal and service is great. Pimento cheese and crostini was a tasty appetizer. The restaurant did get a little warm when it started to fill up. We went on a rainy Monday night and it was packed. I imagine if you go on Friday or Saturday you may have to wait for a table. They... More

The blackboard menu is annoying! We kept having to get up and go closer and peer over other diners' heads. The wine portions were a bit slight. I suggest two salads and split the mac n cheese, it's plenty for two.

My husband and I were taking the train home from Raleigh and wanted something convenient to the rental car place and the train station. Wow, was I happy to find Poole's! It's a small diner and they don't take reservations. We happened to get lucky and walked in at 5:00. They open the doors at 5, take your name, and... More

You might miss this gem driving by its nondescript exterior if you didn't know that it is the flagship of Chef Ashley Christensen's five establishments in Raleigh. Sure, there is some diner counter seating, no tablecloths (linen napkins, though) and basic diner china, but the resemblance stops there. The focus is on the good here - artisan riffs on southern... This is a busy place with lots of buzz. The wine list by the glass is substantial and the wines good. the food is unusual but tasty. our server was excellent and genuinely wanted to help and was very prepared to make suggestions. There is not a menu for the table as everything is written on overhead blackboards so these... More

Because of the reviews we'd read, mentioning Iron Chef and James Beard awards, we expected a world class dining experience with an ironic touch of down-home hospitality. The menu did indeed feature a diverse and imaginative selection of local farm-to-table ingredients. But there were aspects that seemed more diner-like than fine-restaurant: the wine list, for example, was overshadowed by the... More

Strong beer and wine selection to start the meal. Each evening the meal selection is changed up and very different from selections found anywhere else. About 4 selections each in appetizer, main meal, side items... Had rabbit, baked macaroni (their way), chicken and mashed potatoes... Very good overall and just a different off the beat and track place that was... More
