Hidden diner for dinner

Cute concept. Ashley has it figured out. Wish there were more waiting space because there is always a crowd, but that is kind of the charm. Mac and cheese is everyone's fav. Great vibe. Would recommend.

Even if you only get in to eat the macaroni gratin and have a delicious cocktail it is worth the wait to eat at Poole's. My group shared every dish and we had a lovely time drinking a fine Merlot and eating local, southern food cooked to perfection. We had heirloom tomatoes on cornbread, fantastic whole-fried okra, pimento cheese with... More

This is a must-do in Raleigh. Succinctly captures the nexus of Raleigh culture: Casual elegance - refinement without snobbery Zinging creativity - brand new, but familiar Subtle flavors - refined, nuanced Good Bourbon - full stop Nobody needs you to notice...nobody wants the lines any longer. One constructive thought - I would love to see both (2) toilets marked gender... More

The consistent line to get into Poole's should tell you much about it's food. This is my favorite restaurant in the Raleigh area. I love the it's quaint size, the double-horse shoe bar, the chalk board menus (that change daily depending on local offerings) and I LOVE The food! There is ample parking right across the street. I wish I... More

This is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere! It is worth the wait! They change their menu and everything is wonderful! Our party had the pork and dumplings (OMG!), the Mac and cheese (heavenly!), the chicken (awesome!). We all shared and loved everything! We went back the next night. We had the pork again and the salmon along with the... More

Took us awhile but we finally made it to Ashley Christianson's Poole's Diner. Chuck's and Beasley's are long time faves, so we had high hopes. Exceeded expectations...appetizers of Chilled Sweet Corn Soup, light, airy, not very soup like, but so incredibly delicate and flavorful. Heirloom toms with fresh made cornbread++, scrumptious! all with a side baguette with homemade butter and... More

I have been a fan of A.C. for some time "from a distance" and was excited to finally visit several of her restaurants recently. At Poole's I was pleased by the menu but very disappointed by the execution of the dishes. While not expensive, I found the taste and assembly of each item to be lacking, certainly from a James... My wife and I went here based on Trip Advisor reviews and because of location. We arrived at 4:55 pm. There was already a line forming. At 5:00 pm the doors opened. At 5:30 pm they began seating customers. We had the Pork and Dumplings. We shared a plate. We also shared a serving of Macaroni and Cheese. Wonderful!! This... More

Set in a somewhat nondescript storefront, Poole's is a great place for an after work drink or a nice dinner with friends. There is an extensive beer and wine list, accompanied by an eclectic menu of mixed drinks. I like to sit at the bar - which is more like upscale diner seating - but you can wait it out... More
