Excellent food - would be nice if they took a few reservations

Excellent rotating, mostly local menu. Since they don't take reservations it's worth it to get there shortly after they open as they fill up quickly and have a long wait...and your whole party has to be present to get on the wait list. We finally got a chance to go to Poole's before going to see Grease last night at Progress Energy. We had the pimento cheese (so, so), 2 great salads, the chicken, scallops and their famous mac n cheese. The salads, chicken, scallops and the mac n cheese were fantastic! The pimento cheese was pretty good but I have had better.... More

I went here with a colleague whilst on a work trip. I was hoping for good things. It was ok, nothing wow. The menu is annoyingly on chalk boards. One was next to our table so we had loads of people leaning over us throughout. Pimento cheese was good. Steak tartare was a bit fatty and nowhere near the standard... More

Found this place via a Google search and ended up reading about the chef, Ashley Christensen for about an hour. As suggested we got there fairly early on a Tuesday evening and were lucky enough to get two spots at the end of the diner counter, and were in for the counter meal that dreams are made of. Peter was... More

In Raleigh for business last week and ate at Poole's twice. The first time, I was with colleagues for an informal dinner, and I enjoyed the food so much I returned the very next night by myself. The location is a block or two from the Raleigh Convention Center and the Sheraton and Marriott hotels. The setting is casual, with... More

Dropped in here based on multiple recommendations from local. Poole's isn't justifiably "top-of-mind". Plenty of Southern based entrees and appetizers but significantly leveled up in both ingredients and preparation. Stupidly great Mac and cheese, collard greens (with red peas), and a boneless short rib entree served on top of a delicious sweet potato mash and beneath a spicy layer of... More

Arrived early on a Wednesday and started with cocktails. Both were creative and delicious (think spicy margarita mule and Garden and Gun Cocktail--Makers, Cointreau, bitters, etc.). Split the mussels with a baguette, then moved on to tilefish with shaved Brussels and Romesco--flakey, delicate fish, great flavors-- and rabbit confit pot pie--great for a damp winter's night. Finished with the panna... More

This was my second time going to Poole's. Both times I had the Chicken Liver Pate because it is just that good! Love everything about the place. Atmosphere, food menu, wine selection, and the staff was great. Go! Definitely makes me want to go check out the Chef's other places here in Raleigh!

We found Poole's because of Trip Advisor and it was so good. The service was quick and friend, the menu a little limited but the food was amazingly tasty. Savory and full flavored. The atmosphere is cozy and cool. Loved this little jewel.

We ordered the pimento cheese, Mac & cheese, rhubarb, and chicken. Everything was amazing. Great diner atmosphere with high-end southern food.
