About 3/4 of my visits to 42nd Street, I don't order oysters. Don't misunderstand, I love oysters, however there so many great items on their menu, I want to try something different. the fresh catch is always excellent.

Traveling through Raleigh with my family and decided to take a chance. Very fun and festive environment with live music, fresh well prepared seafood, and good attentive service.

This is becoming our favorite place to go for date night. My extremely hot girlfriend and I had another great time here. We recommend eating at the bar or one of the tables that's kinda attached to the bar. Our server was a very helpful young man that is a Senior in college and he made a great food recommendation... The restaurant has been around for a long time and when I think of Downtown Raleigh, 42nd Street is one of the places I think of. The food is great, the waitstaff is excellent, and the atmosphere is awesome. There aren't very many options for non-seafood eaters though so that is something to keep in mind. The food is fresh... Several people in Raleigh told me this is a "must visit" restaurant. Yeah, it was a cool place...appears to have a lot of history, but overall it was just an "ok" experience relative to the hype. Of course I had oysters, but frankly I thought they were quite overpriced. The shrimp & grits were good...but they slathered them with cheese,... More

42nd Street is a classic that has been around for a long time. I love a restaurant that can retain the feel of what it might have been like back in the early days of it's success but still feel updated, vibrant and charming. This restaurant reminded me of the old neighborhood steakhouses in NYC, with the "real" old photographs... More

My only complaint was there is only 2 handicapped spaces, which is terrible for a resturant of this class and size. The food was good but expensive. Be prepared to drop some serious money for food here. The food we had was very good. The service was excellent! The atmosphere was very nice too. Being hadicapped, I would have been... More

I love steamed oysters and this place is the best. They are very professional and selective about their oysters. A bit expensive, but I treat myself a couple of times a year when I am in Raleigh.

My lovely girlfriend and I were jn the mood for some great seafood and we definitely found it here at 42nd. We decided to just have appetizers and cold drinks. Everything we ate was very delicious from the Oyster Rockafella to the Bacon wrapped Scallops were simply awesome. We had a great date night and the atmosphere was contagious. Our... More

I visit Raleigh several times a year and really enjoy this North Caroline restaurant. I took a group of 12 for dinner and everyone had fun. We had two servers and they took great care of us. The food is delicious--especially anything oyster! The atmosphere is lively and fun.
