Seven of us visited for our sons 20th Birthday. The buffalo shrimp appetizer was wonderful. Everyone loved the oysters, scallops and fish. Our favorite was the scallops. My Caesar salad was "ok". I don't love the amount of vinegar in the dressing and the restaurant is very loud. If you have a hard time hearing, the main dining room probably... More

The truth is that this has been around for a long time, so obviously there are people that like it here. I'm just not one of them; neither is my husband. If you get a fried dish it is dry and the cole slaw tastes like it is from a grocery store prepared section. This time I came in with... More

I liked the place and the food was good, but I thought it was pricey for what you get. I had the Fried Oyster Roll and it was six small oysters on a long hoagie roll. The number of oysters on this roll wasn't even enough so that the oysters touched as there were large gaps and, in some cases,... More

I used to live in Raleigh and went here regularly. Now I go here ever time I visit Raleigh and just had dinner there 2 nights in a row. I HIGHLY recommend the Norfolk Combination (Shrimp & Scallops). They are sauteed in a white wine and butter sauce, it is no longer on the menu but they still cook it... More

I have eaten at the one in the RDU airport and enjoyed that much more then my meal here. There was nothing wrong with the meal or service, average across the board, but I had much higher hopes. I would go back and try a few different things as I might have caught them on a sub par night, but... More

42nd St Oyster Bar is a big, boisterous, busy restaurant, but in spite of that the food is distinctive and good, the service is impeccable, and the wine list is top notch and fairly priced. We've been a few times. I strongly recommend reservations - we arrived early one Saturday evening, after a brief wait at the maitre d's desk,... More

When we first moved to Raleigh in 2006, we were told that 42nd St. was the place to go, and they were dead on. 42nd St. has been a weekly visit for us for the past 8 years and have always had an awesome experience. Food, Service, Wine, Beer and Entertainment on the weekends have always been great. We feel... More

My experiences at the oyster bar have always been first class. Select Gulf oysters served without grit and with a smiling server. Sit down table fare is just average in all categories, fried, broiled, and grilled.

We actually frequent this establishment on nights we are looking for comfort foods. Their soups are yummy and filling. They also have a peanut butter pie to die for. Wait staff is always pleasant and the place is always clean.

I was there on a Saturday night and it was busy but we were seated promptly. This is an exciting restaurant with an open kitchen and you can see the shuckers doing their thing. The oysters were terrific, 2 each from 3 different regions. I had the pan fried flounder which was cooked to a turn...crispy crust but soft and... More
