For a true North Carolina breakfast experience I recommend Big Ed’s. Excellent variety on the menu with excellent friendly staff.

I met a group here for breakfast before heading to a conference at the nearby convention center. After living in Raleigh for the better part of 18 years I cannot believe this was my first visit. I love southern food, and southern breakfasts are at the top of the list. This place does what it needs to, and that's great... More

My wife and I were in Raleigh for the Rock and Roll Marathon....along with thousands of others. The day before races it is usually hard to find a good place to eat tank doesn't require a long wait. Big Ed's was a surprise...no wait to speak of and really good food. It was nothing special, just a good standard breakfast... More

Big Ed's City Market gets it! I've been over 30 times & I'm never disappointed. From the thick cut bacon to the home made chicken & dumplings. Doesn't matter if you're in the mood for breakfast or lunch... The menu is big enough to satisfy you but small enough that they execute each southern dish to perfection! If you're moving... More

You wont find Red Velvet pancakes or truffle misted hash browns on the menu. But you will find great variety of omlets, local stone ground grits (ask to add cheese), biscuits that will make you ask for more, and lots of standard breakfast fare. Service was a tad bit slow (I asked several times to get additional hot water for... More

A group of us were in town for the Mercer/Duke game for the NCAA Tournament (Go Bears!!!!) We chose this place to eat before we headed to the game based off of positive online reviews. We were not disappointed. The atmosphere is excellent and the service was exemplary. Everyone was so friendly, we felt very welcome as visitors to the... More

We were in Raleigh 10 years ago and visited Big Ed's City Market Restaurant and when we found ourselves in Raleigh again we had to do breakfast again. We arrived around 9:00 am and were seated immediately. If you love meat with your eggs or pancakes this is the place to be. There were six in our group so we... More

A whole lot of Southern character with home style cooking. Order your main course and you get two sides and a desert. It is in a great part of town too. Just keep in mind that it closes at 2PM.

First time to Raleigh and found this place. Great southern feel with excellent food and hospitality. Their pancakes have a heavy sweet taste to them that don't even require syrup!
