French toast!

The French toast literally melted in my mouth. We had great service even with as busy as they were. My coffee cup was constantly full. The spinach and mushroom omelet was delicious too. Good price point.

I found myself at 7am on my own and in need of some coffee and breakfast, so I saw a police officer and asked for a recommendation. I was directed to Big Ed's with a police escort (no sirens or anything, but in talking about the place the officer decided to pick up some biscuits). There is no finer endorsement... More

I received a recommendation to eat here on Twitter, so my boyfriend and I came in for lunch. Despite how busy the restaurant was, we were seated within minutes, and our waitress came to us almost immediately for our drink orders. I drank water, and my boyfriend wanted a soda. They had both Coke and Pepsi, but they only had... More

Delicious country food! Biscuits and pancakes are a must. Molasses is right on the table. I stuck my finger in the biscuit to create a hole for molasses filling just like when I was a kid. Eggs were fresh and hash browns were crispy and good. Country right in the middle of downtown!

Big Ed's is a Raleigh tradition that transcends all levels of society. You may find yourself seated next to the governor or a telephone repairman. No matter who is beside you, you are in for a delicious, hearty, and definitely Southern breakfast or lunch. Just try to resist the country ham and eggs or a big bowl of grits served... More

My wife being a NC state grad said we must go here while we were in town for a visit. The line was well out the door. I can say I certainly know why. It was all perfection and fast. And for the first time in 30 years I found somebody who makes gravy the way my mother did.

I found Big Ed's online after many, many trips to the State Farmers Market restaurant for breakfast. I regret that I didn't find Big Ed's sooner! It is walking distance (.8 mile) and well worth that walk! I have only had breakfasts there but it is incredibly good. Be forewarned! If you order a stack of pancakes you are going... More

We enjoyed our breakfast in Big Ed's. The menu was definitely a southern one and everything was good...except the biscuits! That just doesn't seem right: to have cold biscuits with an otherwise really tasty and hot breakfast. The service was very good and the atmosphere was comfortable; and apparently it's a favorite of locals. We would go back.
