Picky parents loved it

I've been coming here for sometime now. My fathers birthday was this weekend and he wanted some dessert after lunch so I suggested this place. They loved it. If it's good enough to please my parents, trust me it good then.

Raleigh is fortunate to have a bunch of small locally owned restaurants who concentrate on unique menus, presentation and quality. At the top of that list is Hayes Barton Cafe and Dessertery! Frank and Margot have created a unique portal back to the WW II US era. The decor, lighting and music make you long for a time long lost.... More

I cannot believe I have lived in the Raleigh area for almost 20 years, and have never been here! It was just a wonderful experience all around. The place is so quaint and unique, and you feel right at home! The food was delicious (meatloaf, mashed potatoes!) and the portions were huge! We brought home a piece of cake that... More

We had dinner with friends and everyone was very happy with their meals. Two of us had the Bogey burger which was huge! The chicken special, the quesadillas, grouper, and filet mignon were also wonderful. My flourless chocolate cake with raspberry buttercream was a dream come true. We will be back. Make sure to have reservations; can't get in without... More

My husband grew up in Hayes Barton and at lunch here with his mom and grandmother. We were on a trip down memory lane and stopped in for lunch just now. The two people working behind the counter were more interested in their chat with co workers and writing specials on the white board to take our order or the... More

Dinner was ridiculous! Be back soon. Highly recommend splitting an entree to support the pre and post dinner options. Raspberry chocolate cake highly recommended.

Chicken pot pie and meatloaf always a favorite of mine but I have never had a bad meal. Excellent (and huge) desserts which vary each time. Cool decor.

I was in town visiting my Mom and after she picked me up at the airport, we were looking for a place to have some food and she brought me here upon recommendation from a friend. This place is adorable, something right out of the 50s, WWII and other great memorabilia decorated the walls, and you can either sit at... More

Old time-y and very small but this place features a robust menu and absolutely the most amazing desserts I've ever seen, and I'm from the third coast!!! Portion sizes are more than generous (the meatloaf entree easily feeds two), and decor is WWII and beyond. The staff is attentive, the service was great, the food was hot, and the drinks... More

The Dinners were great and large portions! You have to save room for desserts! Everything is baked fresh and looks wonderful.
