A Portal back to the 40's in 5 Points....

If you have not had dinner at Hayes Barton Cafe & Dessertery, you have missed THE BEST place in town. Frank, Marget and the staff at HBCD have created a "don't miss" restaurant. While they are open at lunch, the real magic begins at dinner. The lights come down, sounds of the 40's fill the room... read more

We ate here recently with friends who LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. I've been once before, but just for desserts. We had a reservation at 7:30pm for 6 people, but the owner was kind enough to call us a few days prior and asked us to come a little later at 8pm, which we didn't mind to do at all.... More

Great local restaurant with retro feel. Walls are covered with b/w pictures of 40's actors and other fun memorabilia. Totally enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was great. Wait staff and owner are extremely personable and accommodating.

The food is worth the long lines, the lack of seating, and the lack of parking. Even if you go during an off hour it will probably still be crowded (the locals love it). Sometimes we get a takeout and drive a few miles to the Raleigh Little Theater Rose Garden to eat (very peaceful). If you drive past the... More

This restaurant does not take reservations, so arrive right at 6:00 for no waiting. Parking is on the street in front of the restaurant. You may have to walk a block or more. The website needs work. It is hard to navigate and the specials were for July 23-25 and we are almost to the second week of August. The... More

I've been coming here for sometime now. My fathers birthday was this weekend and he wanted some dessert after lunch so I suggested this place. They loved it. If it's good enough to please my parents, trust me it good then.

Raleigh is fortunate to have a bunch of small locally owned restaurants who concentrate on unique menus, presentation and quality. At the top of that list is Hayes Barton Cafe and Dessertery! Frank and Margot have created a unique portal back to the WW II US era. The decor, lighting and music make you long for a time long lost.... More

I cannot believe I have lived in the Raleigh area for almost 20 years, and have never been here! It was just a wonderful experience all around. The place is so quaint and unique, and you feel right at home! The food was delicious (meatloaf, mashed potatoes!) and the portions were huge! We brought home a piece of cake that... More

We had dinner with friends and everyone was very happy with their meals. Two of us had the Bogey burger which was huge! The chicken special, the quesadillas, grouper, and filet mignon were also wonderful. My flourless chocolate cake with raspberry buttercream was a dream come true. We will be back. Make sure to have reservations; can't get in without... More

My husband grew up in Hayes Barton and at lunch here with his mom and grandmother. We were on a trip down memory lane and stopped in for lunch just now. The two people working behind the counter were more interested in their chat with co workers and writing specials on the white board to take our order or the... More
