Place your order at the counter and while waiting for it to be brought to your table, browse the hundreds of pictures from the 40's, etc. Soft music from the era plays in the background, but not so loud that you can't carry on a conversation. Had the crab cake salad for lunch; excellent!! Another had the pimento cheese &... More

First time at H. B. with friends who had been there before. They converted the old drugstore counter into a restaurant/bar. It was crowded and very noisy--good signs for a week night. Asking friends what to order, they said not to get the chicken pot pie as it was too dry--so I went with the fried chicken and waffles with... More

Looking for someplace different to celebrate my daughter's birthday and reading about Hayes Barton Cafe, we visited for lunch. We arrived early ... about 11:45... and shortly thereafter it was super busy. I had the Famous Five Points sandwich with French Fries ...large portion of fries but not warm and crispy. My daughter had the Grilled Pimento Cheese with bacon... More

First note: parking is terrible, and I mean terrible..especially at peak lunch time, basically "fahgetaboutit". This is a re-done very old lunch counter in the back of a very old pharmacy, conceptually not a bad idea and the décor is a somewhat interesting throw back of pictures/photo's from the 1940-50's. There was no welcoming/acknowledgement or host/ess (at lunch anyway) though... More

If you straggle into Hayes Barton in the 5-points section of Raleigh, it's probably because someone told you about their unbelievable cakes and pies. At last that's how i ended up there! I came, I ate, but could not conquer the huge dessert. For lunch I ordered a special of a house salad with grilled chicken. The salad was fresh... More

My husband, and I decided to try out this place for the 13 year wedding anniversary. The decor takes you back to a 1960s dinner-which we enjoyed! The food was great, desserts were even better(all made in house) but the watch out for the portions- they're huge! The wait staff could use a little pep talk, but overall everything was... More

Everything about this place is top quality. The service, food and desserts all are amazing. The food portions are just unreal. Everybody leaves with a to-go box. My wife and I went for our anniversary and loved the experience. As an appetizer I recommend the mussels.

This a quaint diner, but with a menu priced more for four star restaurant. To its credit, the portions are very large, so you get two meals out of one if you want. Our waitress was very helpful with my many food allergies and was able to help me find things on the menu that they could prepare without black... More

My husband and I went here for my birthday. It is a quaint place in Five Points with a romantic hipster diner vibe. I loved the atmosphere. Our waitress was friendly. We ordered way too much food, but it was sooo worth it and made amazing leftovers. Yes, you can split a slice of their cake with a family of... More
