My wife and I love good BBQ. In fact we smoke our own meats quite frequently at home. We had seen The Pit on DD and Dives and wanted to give it a try. We arrived around noon on a SUnday and there was a line out the door, good sign right? We decided to eat in the bar rather... More

Let me start by saying I'm a fan of The Pit in Durham. Love it! So I was excited to finally try the original location in Raleigh. We got a great table in the bar area for my large group and enjoyed the environment very much. Having tried most items on the menu at the Durham location (my favorite are... More

My #1 place in Raleigh. Loved the ribs. Esspecialny the baby ribs. Their sauces are also diverse and really good. Good for groups as well, because of their sharing menu.

I went there just on a whim and I have to say that I was not disappointed by any means. The food is more than you can eat unless you are really hungry, the BBQ is true Eastern Carolina since I am a fan of pulled pork and the hush puppies, well lets just say it was a mouth watering... More

With Thanksgiving approaching my sister-in-law recommended trying "The Pit" for their family style Thanksgiving Dinner. Wow, I'm glad we did! At $24 per adult, $12 for kids you couldn't find a better value with such outstanding food anywhere. Starting with an excellent House salad and Stuffed Mushrooms we moved on to White Turkey and Dark Turkey Platters then Ham and... More

I had heard about this place before and also watched the "Man vs Food" episode from here, so I was very excited to try. When we arrived, it was packed and quite a queue. We got a table option but it could be a little while. We asked to sit at the bar and ended up staying there and eating.... More

The service was excellent. The pit uses a 3 waiter/waitress system. If any of the 3 sees that something is needed, then that person will handle it. I wish more restaurants did this. The food was good. The bbque chicken was the best, nice, tender, and smoky. Mac and cheese was some of the best that I had at a... More

One of my favorite restaurants around, The Pit consistently serves delicious, high-quality food with excellent service. My boyfriend and I have come here several times and we've never had a bad experience. The portions are huge - easily enough for a full second meal, and the bread and hush-puppy basket included with dinner is absolutely delicious and very filling as... More

The wife & I ate here on a Friday night, 8:45 reservations for 2. Service was OK at best, almost felt like we were being bothersome to the male staff that were taking care of us (they use a team system where 3 or 4 people actually wait on you..). The chopped bbq and the ribs were excellent. Brisket was... More

We ate at The Pit several years ago while in Raleigh. At the time we felt it was very good, but this time barely average. It is hard to find parking, noticed a lot of people walking to and from offices downtown. Servers are still very friendly. Service was prompt, maybe because so much of the food was prepared ahead?...
