Great food & atmosphere

You don't have to be a big meat eater to love this place - they have great sides and salads. But for those looking for meat my family & co-workers all like this place! Good for lunch, dinner, or stopping in for appetizers - we've done all three.

I was in town on business and a colleague recommended I get some authentic North Carolina barbecue - and The Pit handsomely fit the bill! Restaurant was crowded on a weekday evening, though I was seated an served promptly. Amanda took the time to describe the nuances that make NC barbecue unique, helped with my selections and even offered and... More

I went here during a business trip as had heard good things. The line was 45 minutes at 600pm so I figured it had to be good. The corn bread was the nicest I had ever eaten. I got yams, Mac n cheese and BBQ pork/fried chicken. It was HUGE, exceedingly tasty and some of the best bbq I have... More

Delicious smoked whole hog here..the best chopped BBQ, eastern North Carolina style,, great pulled pork, my two faves. But there's plenty more BBQ,, and even tofu BBQ! which is very popular for the non meat eaters that come here too! Great homestyle mac and a cheese, and other sides, and southern hospitality from a warm, friendly staff. They have bottles... More

If you don't want authentic NC bbq, don't bother visiting the PIT. They serve some of the finest Eastern NC bbq and fixins. Bring your appetite as portions are not small. Sometime they even have cracklins as a special treat.

Such amazing service and food! Our server was patient with my indecision and brought out samples of sides for me to try. Outstanding beef brisket. Potato salad was on point. The Brunswick stew was a bit watery but still good. Our glasses were never empty. The smell was heavenly! They had a surprising number of vegetarian items as well as... More

Got a chance to have dinner here with a group of 6 adults & 4 children. There is something for everyone and the food we had was very tasty. Even the fried chicken dinner! Waiter was great and helped make the 4 year old birthday boy's day special.

Been many times for lunch and after trying the menu, ended up ordering the same lunch; baby rack ribs and a double mac & cheese. Slow-cooked and very tasty!

Got the pulled pork. It was good. The sides were really good too. It's loud inside and was very busy the Saturday I was there. It's in a great downtown location. Great place for friends and family!

I am skeptical of BBQ places that accept reservations and have valet parking. Mr. Mitchell is capable of ethereal smoked meats. The setting just intrudes for me. I have the same problem with Slows back in Detroit. You will have a very good meal at The Pit, but it is a bit antiseptic.
