A great meal and very good service

We were on the Outer Banks for a week and Tale of the Whale presented one of the best dining experiences. We had a party of 9 and it was no issue. As in past years, the She Crab Soup was delicious. The fresh bread is great. Fresh catch of the day and other local favorites were all delicious. Wait... More

There is such a thing (at least for my wife and I) as too much food. Our meal was tasty but, oh my, the size of the portions. I had a blackened flounder and it was very good, but the serving was four very large portions (at least they were for me). And the price reflected the portions. If we... More

A wonderful place to have an exceptional meal. The owners and staff are always friendly and accommodating - outstanding menu and ample portions make it more like a destination than restaurant, an absolute must!!!

One of the best Nags Head restaurants. Extensive, varied and creative menu of well-prepared foods. Well-trained and friendly waitstaff who know the details of the menu and who provide personal and attentive service. Obviously well-managed front of the house. Highly recommend a visit during your stay in Nags Head area.

My husband and I love to go here. The views and the food are outstanding and so is the family that own and operate the place. There is not a bad seat in the house. It is nice to go someplace where there is not a big turn over with help. it is like Cheers, everyone remembers you from year... More

I've been going to the Tale of the Whale for 25+ years. It has been owned by the same family the entire time...and you can tell. They know how to treat their customers!!! The food is outstanding! (And I think I have tried just about everything on the menu.) It's one of my favorite dining establishments on the Outer Banks.... More

We have been to Tale of the Whale before and had a great experience so we went back for our anniversary dinner. It started off great with great service, but once we got our food, my husbands steak was full of grisle. They did get him a new steak, but this one still had gristle in it and the crab... More

First off, they accommodated a large group. Thank you. The server, Missy (and another man), kept up with us, but she wasn't exactly nice. It would have been all good until she made a rude comment about a tip someone in our group left, right in front of us! REALLY?! I just left you a 20% tip on a check... More
