More like 4.5 out of 5. This is where we went (7 total) for our first outing during our stay in the Outer Banks. What a great waterfront sunset views. Our waitress was very attentive. It started with some nice large warm loafs of bread. I ordered the She-Crab soup which had lump crab meat and was an instant winner.... More

We went here by accident but, if ever in the area again, we will return! The Tale of the Whale is a family owned restaurant right on the water of Roanoke Sound. It is large, roomy and very busy. We called ahead to check on the wait time and were told we could be seated immediately. We were right by... More

Heard raves about this restaurant from experienced OBX travelers and TripAdvisor reviews looked promising. This was to be our highlight dinner of our trip. It looked promising - great location and we got a window table with a beautiful view. Unfortunately, they weren't sufficiently distracting from over-priced, low quality food and terrible service. The server alternated between being curt and... More

Just here the last Friday in August. Celebrating 4 year anniversary and our fist time OBX. Everything was great. My husband ordered the tile fish blacked with hits. First time either of us had Tile fish. OMG it was so flavorful ad flaky. His dish was better than mine. I had the Tale of the whale pasta it was missing... More

This is another one we always stop at. My fried shrimp was good. My husband had sweet teriyaki shrimp, yellowfin tuna and scallop kabobs, and absolutely raved about them.!

We visited in August with friends and family - 6 of us total in our party. We all got different dishes and most of us though that the food was average - no one was like wow this is great - which I have to say was a disappointment, especially for the cost. I got chicken, fish and steak -... More

We ate here after several families renting our beach house indicated it was their favorite meal. We got there very late and did not have to wait for a seat. The Bay side of the restaurant is nearly all windows which provides a beautiful view. The decor is lovely. The food was even better. The loaf of bread and butter... More

Husband and I recently visited during our vacation and had a wonderful experience. We were seated immediately (8pm) and our view of the water was absolutely stunning. Our server, Clara was warm and friendly. Ordered the house salad as an app and it had to be one of the best salads I've had in a long time. My main meal... More

Visited with my wife, I got a special with blackened tuna and a small steak with grit cakes (they taste GREAT)! She got a crab cake dinner. We split a chocolate desert with a pecan crust on the bottom. Her crab cakes were to be broiled, but they had a dark brown crust on them. Other than that, everything was... More

We arrived on a Saturday night and our wait time was less than 20 minutes. The waitress was wonderful and so was the food. We got the crab dip as an appetizer. Wonderful and local crabmeat....not foreign! I got the fish 3 ways with tile fish and it was delicious. My husband got a filet and tuna special and he... More
