Four of us dined there in early Sept. We all had something different from steaks to seafood. It was all prepared just right and served together. Waiter was attentive without hovering. Wait time was good. I would recommend this restaurant, but be prepared to wait to be seated at peak times

I went to the Tale of the Whale with a group of eight on a Friday night during the dinner rush . We were seated within a half an hour. The service was excellent, extremely attentive to our needs. Most of us had the surf and turf; the steak was prepared to perfection and the lobster tail was succulent. The... More

We decided to go to this restaurant based on other reviews. (OK, also because of the great name.) I'm now surprised how highly it is rated. The place is nice and I'm sure the view is lovely but we arrived after dark so all we could see was the lighted pier. The waitstaff was nice. The quality of the food... More

My husband and I went to Tale of a Whale for an early dinner. Matthew was our waiter. The service was excellent. The bread with butter, Crab cake dinner, she crab soup, and seafood kabobs were delicious. The servings were large and we ended up taking plenty of leftovers back to the hotel. Highly recommend this establishment.

We had a great night out at Tale of the Whale. Gazing out at the water while sipping a rum drink and savoring the Cajun zing of the blackened chicken appetizer- sheer enjoyment! I also thought it was great that the server let us know which of the salad dressings were homemade. Everything about the experience was simply perfect.

Took the wife , kids and grandchildren to Tail of the Whale, there were 11 of us, the service was super, waitress was wonderful, and food was outstanding, did not have a reservation and the wait was very short. Overall it is one of the better places for family dining on the Outer Banks

More like 4.5 out of 5. This is where we went (7 total) for our first outing during our stay in the Outer Banks. What a great waterfront sunset views. Our waitress was very attentive. It started with some nice large warm loafs of bread. I ordered the She-Crab soup which had lump crab meat and was an instant winner.... More

We went here by accident but, if ever in the area again, we will return! The Tale of the Whale is a family owned restaurant right on the water of Roanoke Sound. It is large, roomy and very busy. We called ahead to check on the wait time and were told we could be seated immediately. We were right by... More

Heard raves about this restaurant from experienced OBX travelers and TripAdvisor reviews looked promising. This was to be our highlight dinner of our trip. It looked promising - great location and we got a window table with a beautiful view. Unfortunately, they weren't sufficiently distracting from over-priced, low quality food and terrible service. The server alternated between being curt and... More
