Step back in time when restaurants were basic with a few tables and stools at the bar. Service was friendly, menus and portions smaller and there was always a daily special. This is the type of place where you allow yourself to enjoy it for what it represents. It is not so much about the food as the atmosphere. We... More

Ate lunch here. It's like an old fashioned soda fountain/café like on Andy Griffith Show. Great service and food. Prices are good.

I enjoyed their spaghetti and had a milkshake. Good prices and friendly service. Menu had a lot of choices. Right in the middle of town.

While visiting Mayberry-Mt. Airy, we happened into Barney's. We each got the daily special with two sides. My companion had the Salisbury steak and I, the chicken and dumplings. We each got sides and they were good. I especially enjoyed the baked apple side as well as the fried squash. Great selection on the menu as well. Get here 11:00... More

We ended up at Barneys for a late afternoon dessert. The prices were very reasonable and the servings were very generous. Hubby got banana split and gave it a ""very good." I had ice cream - two scoops in a bowl which looked more like 3+! Servers checked on us as if we had ordered a 5-course meal instead of... More

Located in downtown Mt. Airy, Barney's has the photos of Deputy Barney Fife on the walls and Barney's is a part of the Mt Airy community's efforts to memorialize and honor the town that was the basis for so many of the Andy Griffith Show's characters and places. Barney's is a basic diner that was crowded with a mix of... More

We were in Mount Airy for the day only. About 1 1/2 hours from our home. It was about lunch time and were getting hungry. We had our little Yorkie with us and had to order the sandwiches to go. We ordered a Barney burger, grilled cheese and two grilled chicken and cheese. We walked a couple of blocks after... More

good sandwiches and burgers reasonably priced. We sat at the counter and got to see the homemade cakes under glass get sliced up for the customers. They have good old fashioned milk shakes. Service was fast and friendly. No line while we were there so if you can"t get in to Snappys go down the street and get a taste... More

My wife and I ate here on Sunday. We were surprised how drastically different Main Street looks on Sunday vs. Saturday. When we walked around on Saturday the street was packed with people. We got here on Sunday around 11:30 and were surprised how quiet everything was. The same held true with the restaurant. When we walked in there were... More
