My husband has wanted to eat at the Sanitary for over 20 years! Each time his family traveled to the area they never stopped to eat here because it was too expensive for them. Well, while traveling with our own children we decided to give it a try for lunch. It has the usual tacky decor for an older seafood... More

Three of us went for lunch in November. I had not been there in at least 20 years and was excited to return to such a historical landmark. However, everything about the place was a disappointment starting with the noise, the rushed service (to get you out the door?), the array of stuff for sale, the ancient rest rooms, the... More

I thought they had good food, just a bit slow and noisy. You can expect this at most places though that have a lot of close seating.

We try to get to The Sanitary every time we visit the Crystal Coast, and have never been disappointed. It has a great history in Moorhead City, with beautiful views, and the nice addition of an updated nautical themed bar . Soft Shelled crabs are always excellent , as are the fish tacos and complimentary hush puppies. A surprisingly wide... More

A well established long time Morehead City restaurant with a ton of connections to Morehead City history. Visitors should definitely put the Sanitary on you schedule! Great local seafood and dedicated owners.

I had been going to the Sanitary for years when I lived nearby some years ago but it had been a while since I had eaten there.. My husband & I decided to take my mother out for some seafood, so we made a day trip to Morehead just to revisit and get some fresh seafood...unfortunately, the Sanitary, which I... More

This is an historic landmark started in 1938 as a 12 stool eatery with a 2-burner kerosene stove. I really believe people go there because of the historic landmark status. It can't be for the food. Let me start with the pros: good squash casserole, good baked sweet potato, and a cool design for the bar. Now for the cons... More

The Sanitary has been around forever. I have enjoyed many a meal there. It is a good place to take a family with kids for lunch or diner. I typically get the fried seafood platter, which has always been good. They call it the Sanitary Fish Market because they did no serve alcoholic beverages in the old days so families... More

Service was pleasant and OK. Fish and shrimp were over cooked. It was nice to have a salad instead of just slaw. Nice to have a bar.
