Great down home cooking. Great place for fish and non fish items as well! We to every time were down in Emerald Isle! Beautiful location on the water. Great for big parties too!

The Sanitary is the first place I ever ate at in Morehead City back in the early 1980s. I've rarely been back that I haven't had a great lunch there, usually lightly dusted popcorn shrimp, fries, slaw, and delicious hush puppies. And don't forget the sweet tea. Just as its name is meant to imply, the place is eat off... More

In a city with so many good places to eat it is always difficult to separate the very good from the average. No a problem doing the math at Sanitary Fish Market & Restaurant--it adds up to very good! The Sanitary can be very different in the summer when the lines are long. On this September's eve the old place... More

I feel this is just an average place to eat seafood. Although you can get a great view at this restuarant and it is family friendly, the food is just average. Lunch prices are much better than dinner.

Went to The Sanitary for dinner on Labor Day night. Service was horrible - the waitress was working hard to provide coverage but there didn't appear to be enough staff for the crowd that arrived at dinner time. Meal was fine - largely fried foods. Wasn't impressed enough to return during our first week in the area - other good... More

Having eaten here a few years ago, we decided to go again, since we were close by. Restaurant has great atmosphere, right on the water front, looks to be a historic building. The food was very good, but seemed to be short on quantity.

We heard this was a must see place and we had to eat there. But it's just mostly fried seafood served to the masses. Nice views of the water but the food was only average. One step up from a Calabash buffet.

My family has eaten here for five generations. This is not the famous eatery that it once was when it was run by Tony Seaman. When my family would come to the beach, it always included a trip to this place. The best description I can give is cafeteria food that has been precooked at gourmet prices. The shrimp was... More

The only good thing I can say about my visit to Sanitary Fish was that the service was good. Our waitress was attentive to all 5 of us consistently checking to make sure we had everything we needed. Between the 5 of us we ordered a range of food from the menu ranging from fried shrimp to broiled fish. With... More

Everything tasted the same...like stale corn meal cooked in 2 week old grease. Except for the string beans, which tasted like the can they come out... I've honestly had better food at a baseball game!!! On a high note, my water with lemon was good.
