Classic General Store with Good Food

You can spend hours roaming this wonderful, old country store with all of its fun and interesting merchandise, while at the same time listening to live blue grass musicians (on the weekends) who play at one end of the store. Plus, they serve good food (they especially are known for their BBQ). A... read more

The atmosphere here is like stepping back in time. Here, you don't have to rush in and out of a meal. The art gallery and store are so neat and you get the sensation of going through rustic finds with pottery and iron works, glass what knots that remind you of grandma's house. The outside is appealing. as you can... More

I stopped here on a weekday in early October and the place was packed. I was finally able to get a table for a bite to eat and the baked beans were pretty good and the cobbler was good. While here I looked around the store and found some items that you can only find in backroad touristy places (local... More

I went to the Hampton store on a weekday in October while in the area. The whole place looked like a ghost town. there were no cars, the shopping area next door looked closed. We went inside the store, which was open but the restaurant area was not. It was dark. There was a woman working there, on the phone... More

Reminds you a little of Mast General store, but not nearly as crowded. Lots o flittle out buildings and they had live music playing the weekend we stopped by! Worth the stop

Took the family for a lunch after driving the back roads leaf looking. The blackberry cobbler was truly homemade and served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream flecked with vanilla bean. The banana pudding was also delicious. Pulled pork sandwich was good, not great. Baked beans were so-so. Love the atmosphere, stocked up on jams and grits.

the front of the store features cute cards, candy, and pottery. The back is a sitting area and BBQ and sandwiches are very good. Two types of sauce are available on the table. Both tasty, but neither fiery. No alcohol.

Brunswick stew was a little spicy but had great taste with lots of chicken. Sweet potato casserole was delicious and broccoli salad was fantastic. Lots of old fashioned bottled drinks. I had A&W root beer in a tall bottle. My friend enjoyed the smoked turkey. Reasonably priced.

I like this place (when it is open), but find it a bit over priced for what you get. The home cookin' is very good - greens, etc. and the store itself is charming.

i went from a four on my last visit to a three because they seem to be giving less food on the sides. my baked beans were only a few spoons and you get a half a cob of corn on the fried corn. i feel it should be a full cob for the price they charge. The food is... More
