This building is spot from which the Wright Brothers telegraphed the news of their first flight (take that, Ohio)! The food is great. My wife had the prime rib and it was huge even though she ordered the small one. I had the steam pot loaded with good stuff. We really liked this place.

I had the house salad with home made bleu cheese dressing and a side of fried oysters. The oysters were fresh, tender and delicious and the salad crisp and fresh. My husband had a burger with bacon and it was cooked perfectly and very good. A simply lunch but wonderful. The Black Pelican catered our wedding in May of 2012... More

A must stop - for a black pelican pizza ( or any pizza really!) and cold beers. Great as always. Friendly staff and patrons. Save room for dessert if you can...

We have enjoyed this restaurant for many years. Lunch is my favorite time to go to get Miss Gayle's chicken salad with fries. It is delicious! All of their food is good though, as we have been here for dinner also. Leave room for the wonderful desserts too!

There were 4 of us. My sister and brother-in-law had ordered the Tuna Nagano on a previous visit. They ordered it again. Based on that, I decided to try it also! It was the best, most tender ahi (sushi grade) tuna I have ever had! And the wasabi-ooo wee!! Strong! Great pickled ginger too. Served with cabbage slaw (Japanese style)... More

The other day we decided to try a new place so we headed to the Black Pelican. Honestly the best thing about the place is the history. There is a wonderful story about the Black Pelican and this is where the Wright brothers sent their telegraph saying they had flown. The food was good but not great. I think my... More

Excellent dinner. No line. The scallops were perfect. The fish was perfect. My vodka tonic was a bit on the weak side and not very voluminous for a $5.00 bill. The waitress was good but not great. Overall, we enjoyed the food and visit and have no reason to pass up another visit if we are ever in the OBX... More

Our first dinner was so bad they gave us a gift certificate for 20.00 well we thought maybe it was just a off night. Well a couple of days later we went back... More

The Black Pelican was always a favorite so I was looking forward to a nice dinner. I was really disappointed. Our appetizer was over cooked and the crusted had become hard. My oysters and fish fried dinner was also over cooked, dry and tasteless; and my wife's prime rib was tough and very fatty. When my wife indicated her prime... More

We fell in to the Black Pelican last month for late lunch. We were lucky as they were serving from both the lunch and dinner menus. (it was 4 pm). The outdoor seating was pleasant, and out waitress was excellent. I recommend the home made pizza...I got mine with anchovies, and it was beyond delicious. The chicken dishes, and sandwiches... More
