After reading some reviews here, I was a little concerned that we wouldn't be able to get reservations with only 2 days notice, but we did. Even on a Thursday night, this place was packed. We arrived a minute or two before our 8 p.m. reservation, waited maybe 10-15 minutes while the staff dashed about. After we were seated, we... More

After watching "A Chef's Life" on PBS Create Channel we decided to drive the 3.5 hours from our home, stay in Kinston and eat at the restaurant with two other couples. We were lucky to get a quiet corner and the food was terrific southern style fare. Vivian spent several minutes talking with us and she is exactly as she... More

My wife and I had dinner here last night and everything was perfect. We were seated at a table that overlooked the kitchen so we watched the kitchen staff prepare all the meals. Very exciting and educational. We both had the shrimp and grits and the dish was superb. A recent post here said they did not like this dish.... More

My wife and I have talked about going to Chef and the Farmer every time we see the TV show. Took her there for a birthday dinner and joined friends who were celebrating a wedding anniversary it is exactly as we had anticipated. You must try the fried collards; it is like eating popcorn, you cannot get enough. The pork... More

Go ahead - drive out to eastern North Carolina and you will find one outstanding restaurant. The servers are wonderful and knowledgeable. The menu is enticing. We started out with okra and ranch ice cream. Slather on the ranch ice cream, let it melt just a bit on the okra, then throw that bad boy down your thought: amazing taste.... More

We dined at this restaurant on Saturday, August 9, 2014. We drove an hour and a half to reach Kinston and were looking forward to a having dinner in a new restaurant and expected the best experience after reading mostly positive reviews on Trip Advisor. Firstly, I found the ambiance to be quite pleasant. The refurbished space was simply furnished... More

My wife and I have enjoyed dining at the Chef and the Farmer on a regular basis since the restaurant opened. We have also enjoyed watching the restaurant's rise to prominence. We have had many great meals. Always look forward to any of the tartare appetizers. We prefer to sit at the bar and Brian and Jason always make us... More

Had a party of 6 recently on a weeknight and the experience was better than I expected. We were seated promptly and had the best service you could ask for. The country ham appetizers with peaches and figs were second to none. Our party ordered the brined pork chop along with the filets that were in a stewed tomato sauce.... More

We made a reservation and were seated quickly. The peppercorn, tomato spicy appetizer was very good. The pulled pork lasagna was only fair, no real pork taste and flavor, the side vegetable was far too buttered. The blackened fish was very well cooked. House Malbec was only fair. The hard surfaces and full tables made for a very noisy meal.... More

We went here with friends and really appreciated the service and atmosphere. The pork belly and bread appetizers were great, gazpacho was amazingly different and the main course was great with one exception..my wife's dish who was told the shrimp and grits were amazing was throughly disappointed. The shrimp were so shrimpy that even she couldnt eat them...she would have... More
