Great Time

Recently ate at this restaurant, it was outstanding. I had the lamb burger and it was very good. My wife had the double pork chop which was also perfect. We sat at the bar and watched all the great foods being prepared in the kitchen. They do an outstanding job at this place

Going to this restaurant has been a dream of my wife's for a long time. We finally made it happen last Friday night for the 8:30 sitting. It was all that we expected and more. Susan our waitress has been with Vivian Howard since the get go in 2006. She said she is fiinally taking her first real vacation for... More

Our friends took us as a "thank you" and they sure did. You need reservations well in advance and I can see why. Locally grown and natural ingredients could not be fresher or more flavorful. The pre-dinner drinks were great as well. Everything from the flash-fried kale to the entrees were done to perfection. While a little pricey for NC,... More

This is the second time we have eaten at The Chef and the Farmer. We really enjoyed our meal . One of the most odd, but amazingly good appetizers was the cream corn pizza with bacon, and basil drizzled with warm honey pizza. Our meal was as good as we expected. We are planning on returning in October for Fall... More

My wife and I made reservations with friends of ours who had been there before about a month in advanced. We live about an hour and 15 minutes away and made reservations for a Thursday night and were not disappointed. We got the bread of the day (mini biscuits), 2 appetizers with an additional order due to our server error... More

The Chef &The Farmer is one of the best restaurants we've visited for a date night. Everything was expertly cooked, from the pickled fried green tomatoes and grits to my husband's double-cut pork chop and my wood roasted monkfish. Some of the flavor combinations were unusual (cantaloupe ice cream and candied bacon) but they were tasty and delicious! Ben recommended... More

We enjoyed dinner last night - we started with three small plates (an oyster & grouper ceviche, a fresh salad with local ingredients, and a zucchini & squash ribbons). All were very creative, tasty and flavorful. Then we had the Black Grouper, the Monkfish, and the Pork Chop. All were fantastic. Finally, we shared dessert: brownie with marshmallow ice cream,... I planned a surprise getaway for our 20th anniversary, the centerpiece of the trip was dinner at Chef & the Farmer. The restaurant is smaller than I expected, and more casual. The open kitchen and close quarters make for a lively, intimate setting. Edison lights are slung over the bar and mason jars remind you that, even though the chef... More

My husband and I made a special trip on the way to Washington DC just to eat here and were not disappointed. It is definitely a major accomplishment to create a restaurant of this caliber in a town the size of Kinston. The food was very creative and was prepared from local ingredients - everything made in house. The crispy... More

Staff was very attentive without being intrusive. Handled a correction beautifully. Extraordinary customer service. We ordered from different menu areas as we always do to sample a wide range of flavor. Well presented and delicious. Very far away for us but worth the effort.
