We had reservations for Fri. night, & although it was really busy, we were seated almost on time. We sat at bar while we waited on our table, where we discovered a new favorite wine (& a generous serving). Once seated, everything exceeded expectations; service was prompt & personable...very warm and friendly. Food was excellent & delicious; full of flavor!... More

The Chef and the Farmer is a magic confluence of creativity, execution, presentation, ambience and service that culminates in a memorable dining experience at a reasonable price. Chef and the Farmer could would command top tier status in any metropolitan setting. Worth the trip from anywhere, but a special treat for us North Carolinians.

From the time we entered until we left the service was above the top. The food was great, seasonally perfect and presentation was fun. The hostess keep apologizing for the loud party behind us, which very thoughtful - however we were so enthralled with our dining experience we didn't even notice.

I've been guilty of "grade creep" in assigning star-based ratings on Trip Advisor. This restaurant is what five stars looks like. Wonderful ambience, polished wait staff, solid wine list with reasonably priced selections, and perfectly prepared dishes. Overall, an exceptional experience.

The food was very good. I got my collard-hating wife to eat collards two different ways, so that definitely worked. The wait staff was very friendly. It felt like they were trying to make our trip a special occasion, whether it was or not. That was very much appreciated. Overall, a very fun trip and some great food.

This was our second visit to The Chef and the Farmer. Both of our experiences were outstanding. The food is prepared with great care and it shows. The freshest ingredients are the routine and inventiveness the norm. Even my husband ate his vegetables! We were introduced to the restaurant by Vivian's television program, A Chef's Life. We now make the... More

If you are reading this you have probably started thinking about your trip to Kinston. My first tip: GO! Just jump in the car and start driving. Tip 2: Plan (or Don't). Make reservations in advance. I was extremely surprised how few tables this place has. A Saturday night prime time reservations cannot be had for months. I was happy... More

For several years Chef and The Farmer has been on my bucket list. It's 11/2 hours way from us in Wilmington NC. We were fortunate enough to know in advance we would be traveling thru Kinston and snagged a reservation. What a treat! We had more food than we normally eat and everything was superb. We had the fried collards... More
