The food and service were good but we found it to be on the expensive side. We had to drive from Raleigh and stay the night in a hotel so this may have added to our sense of 'value for effort' so bear this in mind as you read the review. Not sorry we drove out to experience this restaurant... More

We made a reservation 3 weeks in advance. That's as soon as we could get in! It was worth the wait. We arrived and were immediately seated. Our waiter was very attentive and the som even helped us pick a good wine. Our group of 4 shared the fried collards. These are a must, even if you don't care for... More

Had watched the chef's reality show on PBS and loved it. Being s Southener whose maternal side of the family was from rural Tidewater VA and some of my paternal side was from rural eastern NC many of the shows were sentimental reminders to me. I found Evelyn to be a true person and certainly still feel that way after... More

.....and red velvet cake for dessert. We love the show and Chef Vivian's style, so when we moved from Wisconsin to Chapel Hill, we chose to celebrate our first southern birthday in Kinston. The 5 hour round-trip drive on a work night did not deter us. We would have happily driven further! The restaurant service was impeccable, presentation and flavor... More

A girl's night out dinner with friends that was FANTASTIC. We started with a 'classic short gin martini' for $6 ... a deal. For appetizer we shared Fried Chicken Livers & Hot Honey.. excellent. We all planned to have a gourmet dinner of Chicken and Dumplings or Rice Crusted Catfish, but instead, we made it a pizza night with each... More

My husband and I did a bit of a culinary tour of western NC and then eastern NC for our 10th anniversary. Having heard about Chef and The Farmer a few years ago, and then becoming huge fans of the show...we put this sweet place at the top of our list. It was one of our favorite dining experiences ever... If you have not been...atleast once...I suggest going once! It's worth the time and money. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and how it is prepared. If you are on the fence about a certain item, just try it because you won't regret it! Each time I go it is a new experience of tastes that... More

We started off at the Boiler Room which was awesome. Great drinks and oysters. Waited about 10 minutes to be seated at 6:00. Saw Ben and Vivian both. Headed to the Tap Room after that. We took the tour and loved it. Great IPA. Finally we made to the The Chef. We had the fried collards and pork belly for... More

I called The Chef and the Farmer two weeks ahead for a Saturday night reservation (Nov.15th) and was told they were booked. The sweet lady on the phone suggested I get on the cancellation list. Lo and behold, a week later, I was called and told that they had a cancellation for 9pm, table for four. I took the opportunity.... More

we had a 5:30 PM reservation last evening, and did not see our entrées until 7:30 PM. Although the food and the people truly are exceptional, something must've happened this time. We will give it one more shot next Valentines Day.
