Wonderful evening

We had a memorable birthday dinner at the Chef and the Farmer. We started with two of the shared plates-- smoked beef carpaccio and the oysters ceviche. Both were delicious. We next had 2 items from the small plate menu, then had the pork shoulder and the rockfish. Service was attentive but we... read more

Having been fans of the TV series since it's inception, we'd waited a long time before the opportunity presented itself for us to visit Kinston..and have dinner at this heralded restaurant. Let me be brief We loved it. The pork belly skewers are killer, the chicken stuffed with sausage was killer. The snapper, was killer. In fact, just about everything... More

My wife and I returned to the Chef and the Farmer for our second time and found it outstanding. It is somewhat pricey but well worth it for a fine dining experience. I enjoyed the beef brisket while my wife ordered two plates, Pork Belly Skewers and Turnip Run Ups from the small plates menu. We both enjoyed the sweet... More

Having watched every episode of "A Chef's Life" on PBS, my husband and I really wanted to dine at The Chef and the Farmer with hopes of seeing Chef Vivian Howard. So, we planned a birthday trip (husband) to New Bern with the birthday dinner in Kinston. Kinston is as Chef Vivian describes it on her show but do not... More

I have pretty high standards when it comes to "good" food. Most restaurant meals fall under the "pretty good"category. I'm not impressed by unauthentic, bland, overpriced dishes. Am I a food snob? Never. Treat me to the Mexican restaurant in town served by non-mexicans and I'll take you up on it. But, when I do find a GOOD restaurant, I... More

After watching the show "a Chef's Life" - we had to go here on our way from NY to Florida. It was pretty far from the highway, but so worth the experience. We were tired and decided to have a few small plates instead of entrees. My gin martini was impeccable. We enjoyed the pork belly on a stick with... More

After following Vivian and watching A Chef's Life on TV for several years, this was one of my "bucket list" must go to places. WOW is not enough to describe it. A group of 10 of us had reservations for 5:30 p.m. and we were promptly seated upon our arrival. Our server, Maria, was awesome and very well versed in... More

We loved the Sweet Potato pizza and the salads were good. However,I missed the fennel taste in mine as described on the menu. We had ask for our bread order with our salads but it didn't arrive through the course. Since there wasn't a follow-up visit from our primary server we had to ask for it when the main course... My husband and I drove 200 miles this past Friday to dine at Chef and The Farmer. As with many who have eaten at the restaurant, we enjoy the PBS series "A Chef's Life". The food and service were exceptional, perhaps the best meal we have ever eaten. Vivian's imagination and attention to detail are evident in the presentation and... More
