Heaven In Kinston

My wife and I are fans of the PBS series 'The Life of a Chef' and were looking forward to dining at the Chef and The Farmer, the subject of the PBS Series. We were not disappointed and loved every dish we ordered. We started with a 'Shared Plate' (appetizer) Wood Fired Pizza, creamed corn, bacon... read more

Kinston NC is not the place you would expect to find a restaurant like Chef and The Farmer. It has become a destination restaurant from the success of the TV series A Chefs Life and let me say it is worth the drive. The food is beyond expectations, Chef Vivian Howard creates wonderful local dishes perfectly prepared by a dedicated... More

Like many others, we came upon this restaurant by watching the first two seasons of "A Chef's Life" on WUNC-TV (PBS); it is simply a delight to watch, and the third season of the show begins early September, 2015. It tells the story of how Vivian Howard and Ben Knight met in NYC in the restaurant business, and came back... More

I discovered the PBS show based on this restaurant completely by accident and quickly became hooked. My husband and I are beer geeks, and I told him about this restaurant in this improbably small town and the fact that they host beer dinners with a neighboring brewery. Turns out the hub knows the brewer there.. Somehow, this all evolved into... More

We booked our dinner for a Thursday night weeks ahead for a 5:30 reservation. It was my friend's Birthday and he is a Gourmet chief ( at home) . When they found that out, they moved us so he could see the kitchen . Lots of very interesting combinations you would not think of- for example Blueberry BBQ sauce. You... More

This place is great. The service was top notch. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. The food was absolutely prefect and I look forward to going back someday.

If you want great food that is unique, this is the place for you. It's not cheap, but without wine, having an appetizer and the cheapest entree, you could spend with tip and tax around $40 a person. You definitely need reservations way in advance because even on a Wednesday evening, it was packed. Go and try the food for its... More

We drove and hour and a half for dinner. My wife had the bourbon braised pork with all the fixings. It was to die for. I had the oversized trout it was so large it was under cooked but the fixings were great. I would have given an over all rating of three but everything else was so good. The... More

Made the trip to Kinston for our anniversary just to eat at this restaurant which we had heard so much about. It lived up to the hype and then some. All the reviews said to try the fried collards. We did; they were amazing. Our salads were fresh and beautiful, the roast tuna and slow-cooked pork were delicious. And the... More

We made reservations about three months in advance because my mother was going to be flying in from out of state and wanted to eat here. We drove 4 hours round trip (from Raleigh) to dine here. One of the best meal experiences we have ever had. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation time but were promptly seated.... More
