My family eats here often. But. We get it to go. Food is delicious, but the service needs improvement.

There's a trip to Lou Lou's Oyster Bar, located in King's Restaurant in our future at least twice a month since we are fortunate enough to live in Kinston. I always order the half pound of steamed shrimp. They are cooked to perfection. We also enjoy their oysters, steamed crab legs and side orders. NC craft beers available at good... More

As we drove by, we were trying to figure out what "pig in a puppy" was. Fancy corndog? Country Turducken? On my return trip, I was able to stop and find out. Think of it as a hoagie roll made out of hush puppy batter, with Eastern Carolina BBQ. The hush puppy bun somewhat overpowers the BBQ, but it's a... More

We grab a pork BBQ sandwich at Kings nearly weekly on our drive to the coast. The pork shoulder meat is tender and lean, and the slaw is crunch and sweet. A vinegar-pepper sauce brings a nice burn to each bite. Inside, the restaurant is pleasant, service is friendly. Local craft beer, domestic beer, and wine are available as are... More

One has a choice of a buffet on one side of the building, or a seated, menu only on the other side. At $11.99 pp, it's not a bad choice. Barbecue pork is a "pick it yourself" style, basically un-seasoned other than the smoking. That's good for those who like minimal spiciness, but less so for those who like a... More

Had just read a story about the restaurant in the "Our State" magazine, so when I passed through Kinston had to stop to try the "Pig in a Puppy". Got take out, place was busy but the order was ready in good time. Must say the barbecue sandwich in a hushpuppy bun was good and unique. The eastern NC barbecue... More

We were driving home from New Bern and noticed a billboard advertising Pigs in a Puppy and joked that it would be something we would have to try just to see what it was. When we happened to drive through Kinston and saw the restaurant along the highway we decided to stop since it was lunch time. The parking lot... More

King's is a BBQ joint and is typical of Eastern NC. Chopped barbecued pork and all the trimmings. It was good but I found nothing special about it.

The service was ok at best. The grilled chicken sandwich was mostly bread- and what chicken there was in it was dry and tough. We also had the ribs which only seemed to get flavor from the slather of BBQ sauce. The chopped BBQ came in a bowl that had liquid in the bottom but it wasn't sauce.... The slaw... More
