We stopped here on day 1 of our eastern NC 'Cue Crawl. We had to see and taste for ourselves if this place lived up to its reputation. It did! Pine-paneling, checkered tablecloths, friendly folks, lots of seating, quick service, and affordable. The food? Excellent! The white slaw was the best of the trip, the barbecue was the traditional tangy... More

Stopped on the way home from the beach. The barbecue and slaw was good. (I do prefer tomato-based bbq sauce, but I heard that eastern Carolina has more vinegar-based sauces, so it was probably to be expected.) The hush puppies were amazing. Service was a little slow, but they were also really busy (with after-church crowd). Enjoyed it, and would... More

When I was on active duty in the USAF during the '70s, I went to Wilber's anytime I happened to fly into Seymour- Johnson AFB. My wife was stationed at Seymour-Johnson AFB during the first Gulf War, both of us made special stops at Wilber's. I have not been back since because it is out of the way when we... More

My wife and I drove 2 hours and 45 minutes to Wilbers. My wife has been making his slaw for a couple of years now since she got the recipe from the book, "Holy Smoke: The Big Book of North Carolina Barbecue" by John Shelton Reed and Dale Volberg Reed. Wilber Shirley cooks the whole pig, not just the separate... More

Step back in time and enjoy a wonderful bbq meal. Whole pigs cooked all night on hardwood and served the next day. Wonderful example of eastern style pork bbq. Real diner experience where your southern waitress calls you "shug". All you can eat hushpuppies!

My husband and I had passed Wilbur's many times and decided to give it a try. What a disappointment! We both ordered the chopped BBQ tray with slaw and potato salad and my husband also tried a piece of their fried chicken. The BBQ was full of fat and gristle and had little flavor. The potato salad was mushy. My... More

We went to Wilber's because my wife saw a write up in a magazine that said it was the best BBQ in the US. It was OK, good choice of sides and good hush puppies. Best in the US, hardly. There are others in the area that we actually like better, White Swan, Parkers, Holt Lake, Smithfield BBQ, to mention... More

If you like your tea syrupy-sweet,your barbecue pork cooked on oak wood coals, and real hushpuppies, this is the place to visit. The staff is friendly and the food is good. You can see and hear the fighter planes from Seymour Johnson AFB fly over while you dine on the best Eastern style barbecue in the area. Wilber's is legendary... More

We got there just before 5 pm and got seated quick. The server was nice but didn't or was too busy to keep a check on us. I'll have to admit I don't like their stew. It would be nice if you could just get barbecue only. I did have a big chunk of uncooked potato in my potato salad.... More

Ordered Chicken white and BBQ, fries and june peas with hushpuppies. The BBQ was dry,had to add the sauce which made it moister, the chicken was dry. Peas tasted like they came from a can but they were seasoned well. Fries were average and hushpuppies were average. Portion size was good. They serve you plenty of hushpuppies Hot and Fast!... More
