a staple in the community

I usually just have the barbecue tray, which is sufficient for me, just barbecue and some slaw. I recently tried the chicken livers and was impressed.

North Carolina Vinegar Based Barbeque is worth a drive from Raleigh to a first class Q establishment that has mastered this regional specialty. The Pork and Cole Slaw and Potato Salad alone are worth the trip. Add good fried chicken and corn on the cob and you have a southern feast. Sweet or unsweetened ice tea, enough said. Top this... I've visited three BBQ joints in the past two days. Of the three, I would say Wilber's tied for second (with Hursey's of Burlington). I ordered the BBQ plate with green beans and cole slaw. The BBQ seemed greasy and a little tough. Perhaps not the freshest and appeared to have been refreshed with sauce. Couldn't taste hardly any smoke... More

We were traveling through the area and wanted to try some local BBQ. Being Yankees, we did not know that eastern nc BBQ has kind of a vinegar flavor which we never had before. A lot of people might like it but it just wasn't for us. We also had some fried chicken that was excellent. Great flavor and very... More

Three friends and I visited North Carolina from New York. We wanted an authentic NC BBQ restaurant. Everyone recommended Wilber's! We absolutely loved the family-style dishes. We basically ordered one of every dish and ate until we were exhausted. My favorite dishes were the fried chicken and the mashed potatoes. The atmosphere is so relaxed and fun. The servers were... Stopped at Wilbers on the way home from the beach. Lots of food on the plate. Some of the best bbq I have ever had. Very friendly staff.

I will start out by saying that I am a fan of all BBQ period. I am partial to Eastern Carolina style BBQ. There has been lots of praise about the Goldsboro area BBQ joints. I have spent 20 years in NC and have never visited Wilbur's, until today. Figured that the enjoyable motorcycle ride would be worth the trip... More

This restaurant was pretty good, but probably not worth the extra hour of travel while heading south on 95. I liked that the crowd seemed like locals and the waitress called me "sweetheart," but the vinegar-based bbq was nothing special.

First, the barbecue was good. Well seasoned but a little dry. The sauce was a little too much vinegar for me. (I know this is eastern style but it was almost straight up vinegar.) Next, the Brunswick stew was a liquidy mess. Flavorless and almost no chicken. More like potato soup. The slaw and potato salad were average. Very good... More

Wilber's has gone done in quality a lot in the last 2-3 years. My wife and I ate there today and the quality of the food was fair at best. Potato salad was bad. The barbeque was old and the chicken was luke warm and had been cooked awhile. Service was just fair also. It will be a long time... More
