The setting is really bad. Wait outside in the gas station area. Obnoxious man running around selling wine with generic taste. No real way to tell how long it was going to take to get in. Makes the whole experience bad.

Hubby and I dined at the Caffe Rel for lunch today. He had chicken curry and I had shrimp with basil. Both meals were superb only to be complimented with a wonderful piece of chocolate cake! Even the coffee is very delish! For those visiting Franklin, you have to find the Hot Spot gas station. Caffe Rel is part of... More

A 25 minute wait at lunch time at a restaurant attached to a gas station (rest rooms are actually in the gas station). We were dubious, to say the least! But taking the advice of others, took the chance. Reward is a meal that is not the typical lunch fare in a small NC town. Many options, all of which... More

Wrote a much longer review which went somewhere strange while logging in, but the short version is that the menu promises much more than the kitchen delivers. My "signature" shrimp dish had excellent shrimp over pretty good, al dente in a cream sauce that bore no resemblance to it's menu description. As one of our group of four said of... More

This cafe is beside a Hot Spot service station, An unlikely place for a restaurant. we were skeptical, but were told that this was the best in town. We went in and decoration was very nice. The food, Now that is something else. Best in town, just like they said. Large portions too, Had enough to eat 2 more times.... More

While returning from the Smokies last Saturday my son and I were following our wives in separate vehicle with my 4 grandchildren 5,4, 2 and 7 months. They were picking the place to eat this time. When we followed them to a gas station in downtown Franklin I was reluctant to get out of the car. After assuring me the... More

We got a RAVING review for this place and we decided to go for lunch. There was a wait as promised. Apparently this little place is always HOPPIN! Anyway, we got seated and the server was very nice. We ordered a bowl of soup and three sandwiches. We also tried the mac-n-cheese appetizer. The food was fine, but not out-of-this... More

Franklin is about 1.45hrs from Hendersonville, NC but well worth the drive. Never thought I would be dining in the back area of a Hot Spot (regional gas/convenience store), much less proclaiming it deserving of a visit. Bring cash because they do not accept cards or checks; there is an ATM in Hot Spot. Wish I had ordered the Blue... More

There really are no words a layman like me can use to fairly describe what a wonderful experience awaits your visit to Cafe' REL. For the last 8 years Linda and I have vacationed in and will retire to Franklin. Many family and friends have visited. Without exception all have agreed that dinner at Cafe' REL was the highlight of... More

Don't be put off by the fact this small eatery shares space with the "Hot Spot" gas station and convenience store. It is the best restaurant in Franklin, NC hands down! Consistently good food, daily specials and well established every day selections. The Blue Crab Bisque is to die for....and the bread and bruschetta is excellent as well as the... More
