We stopped for lunch and were pleasantly surprised with the great authentic food choices. I had Classic Mexican tacos de lengua, beef tongue which has been braised with garlic and onions. Very delicious, would reminder you of pot roast.

I moved to EI last September and have been a regular El Zarape patron ever since...I cannot overemphasize how fantastic this restaurant is...the service is impeccable, the food is to die for, and the atmosphere is laid-back and friendly. In 9 months I have had to wait only once to be seated. You will NOT be disappointed!!!

Two years ago we built a house in Emerald Isle, NC. Love this little town, but restaurants are lacking. El Zarape is one of the bright spots. Our family eats there all the time. The food is good and consistent and the margaritas are wonderful. If you have a craving for Mexican, it is the place to go.

Typically at the beach we try to eat fresh seafood, but, thought we would try El Zarape for a change of pace. El Zarape serves your typical dishes found at a quick Mexican restaurant. There was nothing particularly different about their food, but, it was very flavorful and quick. The staff was friendly and accommodating.

I do not advise you and your ladies that are trying to enjoy your vaca to go here. The staff will gawk at you and your friends. Then ask to take a picture with you and molest you in the process without shame. The manager asked to take a photo with our group and in the middle of the shot... More

Went for Mexican food. Shrimp burrito good but not as much shrimp in it. Seemed like it was filled with more beans and rice. Margaritas were not good at all, even the top shelf. Skip them and make your own at home!

Slow to get seated, but good food and servers. A good place for family and children also. Just allow enough time! My husband loves their shrimp garlic dish and always orders it. Good drinks and fun atmosphere.

El Zarape has great food. I'm not a huge fan of Mexican restaurants but this was very good. I ordered a plate with 4 different dishes. Loved the tacos but everything was good. The service was also great. I have heard it gets very busy in the summer and waits can be bad. I will return.

We visited on a Monday night in March. Service was fine, food just average. It was hot, quick and filling. If you want to eat great Mexican cuisine, this isn't it, but it's ok for a rainy, cold night in the off-season.

Food is generally fine, although at times there is a burnt taste. Drinks are a generous size and good value- especially their specials. Unfortunately, they tend to under-estimate (often by a lot) how long the wait will be- so be prepared to wait longer than you thought.
