Nice, airy French place in the heart of Durham. Several of my dining companions had Steak which while tasty, was not the best cut of meat. I had the classic Coq Au Vin that was very flavorful. Lovely, hot beignets following dinner. Had very nice, fresh Rose wine by the glass.

I do not go out to eat much, primarily because I feel I can cook my own food, serve it to myself and husband, have it cheaper and better, and avoid the pretentious restaurants where you wait for something that is only marginal. So, I am a harsh reviewer with all our world travels. Well Rue Cler Lunch was amazing!... More

My husband and I had a bad service experience here a few years ago, and haven't returned since. However, we chanced it last night for a spontaneous date night, and we are glad we did. The bartender was our waiter, as we selected one of the nice tables by the window. We got the 3-course prix fixe, and ordered 6... More

Excellent unique menu, reasonable portions and served with care. Not much to look at but has a rustic charm. Quiet atmosphere which allows you to enjoy your meal and company rather than the din of many restaurants. Well cooked and presented. Not cheap but a good value.

Quaint atmosphere. parking garage across the street but I was lucky and got free evening street parking right on side of the restaurant. Fabulous food. Service is OK, not stellar. Not a lot of privacy, tables are close together. Worth another mention though, food is fabulous.

Rue Cler was one of the first restaurants to move into downtown Durham, in 2006. We hadn't visited in a while, but we were back in town and wondered if it was still as good as it used to be. We were not disappointed. I had an old standby, the moules frites ($12) and my husband had a poisson du... More

Delicous duck confit crepe if a bit on the salty side. Loved the beignets! My friends meals were very good. Lovely little place. Expensive mimosas though!

After wandering the Duke Gardens on a Sunday morning, we two were ready for a tasty lunch. I called the restaurant and was delighted to hear they had no wait. We were seated promptly upon arrival, were presented with brunch menus and agreed to the recommended beignets. The freshly made beignets were among the best I've had. After sipping on... More

We were on a business trip to Raleigh-Durham and two people suggested this restaurant. Reservations were made on a Friday evening which was a good thing because the restaurant was full. The three of us ordered off the Prix Fixe portion of the menu. We had between us fried green tomatoes, asparagus & sweet peas, the tenderloin, scallops and duck.... More

I like Rue Cler and have eaten here a number of times over the years. I'm big on the mussels and fries. THe service is uneven - sometimes quite good - others it is not. Drink selection is limited (no iced tea - - hello, this is the south, don't care if you are a French place). I've eaten mostly... More
